It would’ve had a nice shock factor sure but it also wouldn’t make any sense, spinnel isn’t any less of a redeemable character that any of the gems that got turned, and it really doesn’t adhere to the narrative’s themes and message at all, it would’ve been neat but in the grand scheme it would’ve been really sloppy story telling

Spinel being adopted by the Diamonds is just bad writing. Oh sure, for Sugar it is a "happy end" but this is such surface level happy end shit, even the writing of the movie subconsciously seems to recognize it.

Spinel went through emotional shit. The entire movie was essentially her going on a suicidal killing spree, trying to get everyone Rose cared for destroyed or reseted before accepting the possibility of "dying" herself (the reseted part) and when she starts to see perhaps someone who really cares for her (steven) giving her hope again, she loses it when Steven -thanks to bad communication- makes it look like he was only using her to shut down the giant space phage.

The entire final battle was just her having a mental breakdown and wanting to see the world burn and when she finally snaps out of it, she is at a moment where she realizes she needs to change and goes through "my god, what have I done."
At this point, a good writer would write an ending open enough to indicate she needs to go through her own journey, trying to come to terms with her past and feelings of abandonment while finding out who she is without Pink.

But no. instead she gets adopted by the other Diamonds and "reverts" essentially back to her infant personality that was so easily abused before. Indicating that if anything goes wrong in the relationship with the diamonds, she may snap again.
And the diamonds? Aside of the fact they have not changed at all morally and ethically(they are still space fascists, they just dismantle the empire and "changed" because they think that will somehow make Steven like her, on whom they have projected their unhealthy feelings for Pink) they seem to see Spinel just as a "lost rreasure". An object, not a being with actual feelings. For them Spinel is now just an adorable pet they use as replacement for Steven, that is all.

Any growth Spinel may have gone through in the movie emotionally is back to sqaure one because she will be the toy monkey again in the long run, the Diamonds are just evil but now have something to project the few positive emotions they have on (a replacement drug so to speak) and Sugar has no idea how griving works, making me want to just give her a puppy the moment her mother dies and tell her "there, now you have a replacement for your mom to prject your love on, get over it and go back to work. We want season 6 out before 2022"

I was almost expecting them to go for a tragic end for Spinel but I realized that'd be kind of fucked up when they forgave and made friends with the space dictators that killed millions on other planets.

First thing a lot of people were reminded of when they saw Spinel fight, twintails girl fighting with a scythe in a crazy cartoony fashion.

So the world's dead, right? Like Earth is actually going to die now, because they made it very painfully clear that when that thing pumped all of its poison into the earth it would kill all organic life on the planet, their words not mine. It did that, it pumped every drop with drillfuckery. Its literally all in the planet in oozing rivers that split the ground in half, meaning its now seeped into the very core of the planet and soon will kill everything. Steven can kiss some stuff better but it would literally be impossible to kiss a surface area the size of one continent, lets say North America just for scales sake, in the span of 1000 years, by that time everything will have died and rotted, and this isn't even Asia. And even if he did, it wouldn't help with the chasms that are seeping it hundreds of feet into the ground on any given street.

She won and killed everybody, right? They wouldn't literally spell out the lose scenario, have it happen, and then pretend it just plain didn't happen at all, right? The writers wouldn't introduce a world ending threat and just pretend it didn't matter... right?

You know who else could have ripped it out? One of the diamonds. Any one of them. Blue could handle this so long as she didn't stub her toe or something. And given a solution on how to reverse the decaying, maybe some way to neutralize the entirety of it with a tri-beam of friendship instead of hate? Or even just undo the factory reset, I mean one of them had to have made it right, so they would know everything about it. Yep, could have solved pretty much everything in the span of, I dunno, however long it takes to set up a concert? Just spitballing. But nahhhh, Steven doesn't want to hang out with them, they're clingy!

Guys I don't think the writing for the movie was very good.

My theory is that the writing is bad because it wasn't actually planned out as one story, it's just Mommy Sugar throwing a bunch of ideas she couldn't fit into the show in a pot and trying to make the best narrative out of it that she could, which is why it has so many holes and alot of the plot beats are kind of janky
It may also be a Quality over thought kind of thing because everything about the movie is well done aside from the story

Clearly Pink had one lying around on her garden just in case she wanted to destroy all organic life on it, and she had the scythe in case she wanted to reset Spinel for no reason. Thank god she had both of those and explained to the court jester stuck on a floating rock nobody remembers how to use them exactly, if Spinel didn't know blowing a horn controlled this planet destroying superweapon that Yellow forgot about when she was ordering the planet destroyed, and god help her if Pink hadn't explained that nifty reset scythe that even White forgot all about! I mean for all intents and purposes should have restored Pink, or at least her form if its light-cycle at the very least, back when an autistic pink thing was screaming at her, that was a pretty big misstep on white's part. We're lucky because else then Spinel would have spent more than a day past Steven's message before she arrived on earth! Then we would be past the song about happy endings and that's just not thematically sound!

Yeah the whole plot is slapped together nonsense to facilitate a couple neat songs and have a new quirky villain, just enjoy the ride and forget about it when you get off.

But that's okay, don't think about those kinds of questions, its not important because the plot isn't important, things just happen because they happen and roll with it, and then it's over and you don't have to ask about that world anymore. No need to think about the plot, no need to wonder about the events, the songs were there, the characters were there, and now its over.

Spinel is a gem at war with herself. She's actively denying her jester programming of being always happy/loyal to her owner because of how badly she was hurt by Pink leaving her to rot in the Garden. And to compound it, the fresh perceived betrayal of Steven with the Rejuvinator and how he only seems to really care about his other friends and himself instead of trying to save her as hard as he tried to save them.

And yet, despite all that, she still feels the pull of her programming to laugh unquestioningly and love unconditionally. We're reaching ShindoL levels of mindbreak.

She's not see righteous though. She's flawed in a lot of ways, but she doesn't put herself on a pedestal.

Having Spinel make the sacrifice play and end up shattering herself to contain the explosion (possibly using stretchy powers to cover up the injector before detonation) would have both broken Steven and been an equally good if not better end for her than becoming a plaything of the Diamonds. Up until the concert, she was having a good time hanging out with Steven and the other gems, but once she got her memories back and the abandonment issues returned, she tried to atleast make things right by turning off the Injector.
Seeing Steven spill his spaghetti during the Rejuvenator scene was painful because she thought she was gonna be left all alone again and snapped.

The saddest things was that Pearl was probably right that he was just a passing fling. We didn’t see her leave for earth. We saw her flashback version break down when Steven’s message appears and vanishes and then the original Spinel transforms back into her trauma form. It looks like there’s barely a timeskip between Stephen redeeming the diamonds and then he sends out his message and goes home. Then the Future song begins, suggesting a timeskip.

You also have Spinel talking about his message being on loop and the first line of the New Friends song is “Yes I’ve heard the story over and over again” suggesting she heard it a lot.

I think it’s a perfect choice.

Spinel wants everyone to forget about Stephen the way she feels forgotten by Pink Diamond. And when he dies, along with the planet, nobody who really cares will remember him.

You have to understand that pre-rebellion gem society was extremely dehumanizing. The Diamonds saw most of the other gems as tools or toys whose lives had no meaning beyond their manufactured purpose. This is how they lived and it's what PD was like before coming to Earth.

And everything you said is either debatable or proof against the idea of toxic masculinity. Why invent a term that refers to men when women also exhibit traits that are arguably negative birthed from culture. Saying there's toxic masculinity can imply that only men have that toxicity, but as you yourself gave examples in your post, women have that too.
Then what do you do, do you invent toxic femininity? At that point why do that, why not just say toxic person?

When a culture has some things that are arguably negative, you take them and you discuss them. You try to convince the rest why they're bad for the community. Looking at one thing, seeing that it's about men, and then suddenly coming up with the idea that men are toxic is ridiculous and counter-productive.

Lastly, you're trailing off here. If you cared enough to post then you'd look at the other posts I just made and see that the reason I'm adressing this is because of the idea that being a man is inherently bad, no matter what traits you have and what culture you have. That's the definition that was popularized with "toxic masculinity" and spread around with the rise of progressiveness in the western world.
