I've read them, surprisingly fun books. It is half novel half comic so it was a great pickup for an animated show.

Netflix is a little less regulated than most cable cartoons, so they can get away with some stuff, like character deaths and heavier themes.

Supposedly it evolved into a cosmic horror series over time, and I know in one of the books they have to deal with the big dude slowly turning into a zombie and the main kid basically has a mental breakdown not knowing how to deal with it, so yeah it can get pretty dark for a kids series.

I think the audiobooks are out there, but hell if I know if the actual books themselves are.

Netflix originals generally get less attention. And the designs for this show are kind of standard.

Yeah, I kinda hate that everyone but Jake and Quint had noses that fit their looks; the original artwork (, ) rendered way more decently than this by virtue of constant art improvement - one would think the one major part of the design would be more somewhat polished for the latest work...this just rubs badly.
