Two meanings: First, when she's "reset" with the scythe, she returns to being the light, happy Spinel she used to be.
Second, when her entire life circumstance is "turned around" after she's given a second chance by the Diamonds, you can see she's not so faded and hopeless after all, underneath the anger and sadness.
The whole message of the song is almost like: "Even if you forget yourself or lose your way, the "you" that you once were is inside you, at the same place in your heart/mind that you left it behind. It obviously won't be the exact same if and when you try to return to it, but the important part is that it never left. In fact, some parts are still light and nice when you look at them from the right perspective. You always have hope, you just have to search for it".

If you want the armchair interpretation, the side that Spinel is exposing after having been left alone is tarnished by the suffering she went through, but if you turn her over, you'll find her original, light-hearted self is still there underneath all the grime.

Listen, I give major props to this show and its crew for the good foreshadowing they have throughout the series, but this isn´t it.
When Sugar wrote this song, this story was not on her memory. She did not plan this out. She probably just remembered that song and said "fine, let´s make Spinel´s backstory that".

Other Friends was definitely the best of the bunch but they were all very simple single-melody tracks.
Other Friends also kinda highlights some of the large problems with the way the music was mixed - the volume of different parts of the mix should be just as bouncy as Spinel and complement her fast changes in the visuals, and I can't believe Sarah Stiles didn't have more characterful takes for the song. Her voice should be dripping with malice but only a few moments of the song really have that character to them.

I was also very disappointed that the only people given songs that offer the chance to belt were singers that can't and use falsetto instead. I've got no problem doing that, it sounds good, but how can you have a full musical with broadway performers and not let any of them show off?

I haven't seen a single person show respect for "No matter what" and that's shocking to me, it was such a bop

I honestly really didnt like this film which is a shame, maybe I personally set my hopes a little too high for this film, I enjoyed the beginning and Spinels introduction (especially the song, it really matched up with her character) but I felt like the plot was very surface level and I felt like the section where all the gems had to return to their former selves dragged on for too long.

I also feel like they had such an opportunity to take advantage of the characters we've barely seen much of. I would have loved it if the main gems stayed poofed and Bismuth, Peridot and Lapis got a chance to have some plot relevance again. The villain here also seemed kinda pathetic at times, I really enjoyed the character in general and her backstory but its steven universe so of course the problem cant exist for more then a couple hours. I was just really hoping for a fully evil villain. Also the fact some townies got more screen-time than the diamonds just annoys me, I was just really hoping for a really interesting plot that would have consequences into the next season but instead we got a character who might show up once or twice. It's an alright stand-alone film (5.5/10) but when I compare it to my expectations It just isnt great.

Well in case you didn't notice the majority just likes Spinel, instead of the movie overall, because she's a 10/10 qt when they didn't expect someone like that from the show, and also likely set their expectations low. Everything else that isn't those above is just typical mediocre, boring Steven Universe you see in any other episode. There's enough Spinel that made it watchable while ignoring the boring crap fortunately

I think it's possible that memory was the source for Spinel and the song, but that the song isn't about Spinel.

It's especially applicable to them because Steven is probably going to live for a long time, and she's shown herself to be loyal to a fault if she thinks she can trust the person. There's no way Steven won't win her trust, and she'll be at his side for the next 6000 years or however long he sticks around.

Given the show's in-universe mechanics, it's fair to assume that all spinels are like this, because she's said to be a perfect cut so she's nothing out of ordinary. They all naturally predisposed to goofiness and hijinks but also all have these abilities and thus are more than capable to curbstomp enemies just because of the way their light bodies work and how they use them.

Arguably she’s a unique gem given she was created to be a playmate for Pink Diamond.

It might also have something to do with Pink Pearl and whatever happened to her eye. Pink arguably had something of a temper, so having a playmate that could defend herself if she threw a tantrum wouldn’t be a bad idea.

That's a bit of a stretch. Not only the diamonds wouldn't care about any other gem more than Pink enough to make sure they can defend themselves from her, but we also still don't know why Pink Pearl was like that.

I don’t think you get shattered for not being perfect. Every gam has its place. They have the technology to reset a gem to their original configuration, so I would think in the event that a gem gets out of line, they do that. Shattering is a more permanent solution to a gem who just keeps fucking up even when you reset them, reserved for repeat offenders, high crimes against the diamonds, or maybe really fucked up gems like rutile.

Waaaaay too much effort goes in to incubating a gem to just smash it if it comes out a little quirky. Peridot and Amethysts treatment on home world demonstrate that even if you come out wrong they’ll make a reasonable accommodation like limb enhancers.

It's not that Fluorite is fucked up because of its desire for fusion, it's that it gets worse with each new fusion. Normally when gems fuse their power increases proportionally, and when different gems fuse the power goes up exponentially. But fluorite gets slower and unwieldier and overall less useful every time. Something's seriously wrong with some of constituent gems which affects the entire fusion.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. If there was an inherent issue with fusing for a long time that would cause gems to be straight up obsessed with either fusing, the gems they fused or both, and they pointed that out in the show, that would cause a dilemma in writing cause people would then wonder if the CG's are right about fusing. People would question if perhaps the diamonds weren't in fact right about keeping gems from fusing so that they don't get obsessed and unpredictable.
The engagement arc didn't touch on something like that, it wasn't turned into a big issue that they needed to explore and find the answer to. They just decided "ok, we love each other and that's fine, let's marry".

Materially, it's also a weapon specifically designed to disrupt Gems at the fundaments of their very identity. Yes, just don't think it's an action movie. Appreciate the action, because it's a part of it, but recognize that it's not the main thing.

The thing about this movie is that it goes though quite a bit to explain the characters. As long as you have the basics of the show "What fusions are, they're all based off of gems, they like to sing" then it should be easy enough to follow and enjoy.

Go into it like you're watching an almost 2 hour long musical.

Sure. First few episodes of the series are a bit shaky as they are finding their footing and seeing how they want things to go and I feel that's when the show can lose people. It's kind of a jaded way of viewing things. The way Steven "redeems" people is by appealing to their self-interest, finding the part of them that doesn't like how they've been living and stops that person from tuning it out. They change because it helps them as much as it helps everyone around them.

Alright alright. Maybe that was a bit strong but, I liked Steven's new design and the diamonds were entertaining but man.It 's just that I felt like a series premire more then a send off. The music was good but the main foe was...overrated. Entertaining and creative but, I didn't see the mass appeal. She was like Pinky Pie and Peacock thrown in a blender. The Rose retcon is welcomed and all the technical problems are fixed. But the deep rotted problems are still there. Spindell is redeemed. She's "fixed" rather then a tragic vilian who wants to be the fuck out of Steven for being Rose for leaving her there. All the side characters were just left there to sit. Peridot has a few good lines but aside from keeping track of the injector didn't do much. Lapis is still a blue piece of nothing and Bismuth is the only one with good moments of character and a song. Connie is benched plot wise and literally does nothing the entire story. It has great jokes. Like RESET Pearl "Um Greg" and Songs from everyone. But the meat and potatoes that is the plot is lacking. It feels like a Frankenstein of a steven bomb that was turned into a movie. I felt empty. It was anti-climatic there was no final battle or redemption by the villains sacrifice or anything! This movie like the series fell flat on it's face with so much potential and bits and pieces of something good.
