In the first book he broke Rowley's arm while playing a game, never apologized, and then tried to use it to get chicks when he saw Rowley was getting attention from girls with his cast. Greg's a sociopath, he's just also a massive dork.

Greg probably would have sold out reality in return for a gf so they're about equal. Mabel at least can be cute.

Greg is a piece of shit. He's a dork, but he's also just a genuinely shitty person on top of that too. In the book anyway. There's a part after Christmas where he get a lot of crappy gifts and convinces Rowley to bury their presents in a time capsule. Rowley got a lot of good stuff like money and video games while Greg mostly got shit like clothes and books. Later on he goes back and digs up the time capsule and takes all of the stuff Rowley put into it and never tells him about it.

The movies actually portray him as more of a a geeky kid who's somewhat selfish but is also just misguided and ultimately means well. In the books however he is more or less a sociopath.

Well Greg does have to put up with a family who's just as bad as he is (if not worse).

I never understood why people hate mable for what she did. Greg was actively a cunt.

Greg is an diagnosed sociopath, Mabel is just a victim of Hirsch not wanting to acknowledge the flaws of his sister's pseudo-representation.

Which is why you should never base your characters off of people you know, by the way.

How about heavily inspired by types of characters?

I made characters based off my sisters and I ended up with a pure-hearted angel that can't feel sadness, anger, fear, disgust or hatred, and loves everyone unconditionally and is loved by everyone, and a rich and popular blonde girl who's spoiled by her father, as well as being the hottest girl alive and super talented at pretty much everything with billions of gold trophies and awards.

...They're more-so based on the most common female character archetypes cranked up to 11 than my sisters' actual selves, but is there really a problem with portraying people you know in the best possible way?
