Most of the movie was alright, but it kinda gets unsatisfying in the scenes where they actually approach solving Spiny's situation. The approach was constantly to always talk about Spiny finding some abstract somebody, when what she needed was for the people immediately in front of her to make an approach. Then the whole pawning her off on the creepy diamond sisters when she really should have stayed with the large group of potential Crystal Gem pals. Basing her happiness on her attachment to someone else was never an healthy position to begin with, and the adoption at the end can only feed her problems. Steven seems to be happy to accept unhealthy dispositions from everyone, as long as nobody is fighting today. Pacifying isn't a long term solution.

I think this argument could have been avoided if they had an after credits scene showing us that steven and the crystal gems do try to make friends with her while she's at homeworld or she visits for fun and games. I thought that was already done really well in the series. Greg falling in love with her made her realize her limits as a gem, and so she made a son who would be human and have a part of her so the Crystal Gems, and by extension, the Diamonds, would have to learn to love and grow like humans do. Not that it nullifies any of the suffering she inflicted, but I think her motivations and backstory were already pretty well explored. An immature heiress who realized how much pain her inheritance has caused/will cause and gives it to someone she trusts to make a better future.

I agree. Rose already had a redemption arc. The problem is we experienced it in reverse. Every new thing we learned about Rose is actually something she did further back in the timeline. She spent the most recent millenia of her life crushed under the weight of her actions, feeling guilt and eventually killed herself just to give something else life. Unfortunately knowing all the bad things about Rose, in reverse order, does paint all her bad actions as an unpunished long con rather than the events that shaped her into the her she was when she died.

It sounds bad at face value, but it's more about bonding with people who've cared for the same person.
The diamonds are learning about treating people like equals, so she's not really meant to be theirs or their jester, and Spinel isn't looking for someone to rule over her, just someone to talk her feelings out with and have some fun.
In a way, it'll probably be more like a support group

Once the CGs got their shit together she went down pretty fast. No Obsidian fusion, no dragged out Jasper like brawl where nothing they threw out had an effect or just barely slowed her...just a good old fashion team up and they floored her.

Little moment that nobody has really commented on, but I really like the fact that Amethyst was the first one to recover her memory and she's the only one to do it purely through Steven's help. They really are the tightest of the Crystal Gems aside from the obvious two.

True, though that's another issue with Steven Universe/the gems being aliens bound by a strict set of rules. I assume that Steven's singing probably has a healing effect. It also conveniently keeps it to an hour and twenty minutes.

I think Garnets amnesia transformation should have looked different from her original. Their appearances are often determined by personal choices, with fusions often adding a combination of the clothes both were wearing at the time. With both having amnesia and the circumstances leading to their fusion being different, there should be slight differences as well. I haven't actually bothered to check and compare, but I assume the boarders were lazy in that aspect.

In the show we've seen Steven being locked out, or locking others out of his/Rose's/Pink's/other's room(s) in the temple. Certain rooms can only exist when the fusion gem is around, etc.

And that was just in Rose's temple. Maybe all the of Diamonds have their own little hide away that only the individual can access; they really may not have been able to get to the garden where Spinel was because the only person who can open the door was for all intents dead. Presumably anybody can leave the room/garden from the inside, otherwise Spinel would have been really stuck there for eternity.

And since all the Diamonds were, frankly, pretty terrible and self absorbed over Pink's "death" (I mean, just look at Blue) that they just legit forgot about Pink's playmate and or didn't have proper justification to try to find her.

Pink dies, they have to glass her planet, none of them really get over it. Then "Rose Quartz" shows back up but it's really Steven who's really Pink-- Clearly they had other shit on their minds.

Jasper's rage is more focused on Rose. We haven't really gotten to see how she's handling the revelation that her sworn enemy was actually her beloved leader.

Spinel is the only SU character that I've even come close to relating to, and that's why I don't like the arc. Not realizing that she outgrew you/was never coming back/becoming bitter is some real shit. For Pink, not really, it's just another immature and shitty thing she did. For Spinel, it makes her probably the most justified antagonist in the series. 5,000 years of abandonment by your best friend is a pretty decent reason to go for a murder/suicide.

I actually think it was part of her plan to get rebooted, since she seemed really happy to get cut. Either to live out her life the way she wanted, or because then they had no way to stop the injector.

I'm not sure about that. Like sure, all of Pink Diamonds memories are gone, and her personality is no more, that's a fact, but when the gem was pulled, it still cycled through Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz, before settling on Pink Steven. There is still a record of Pink Diamond's initial state somewhere in there.

I guess one could argue that she saw it as rebelling and rejecting another one of the Diamond's playpens for her and seeing Spinel as just a glorified babysitter rather than a person. But I think it easily feels like the worst thing that Pink did.

Other questionable things she did had bigger consequences, but she did most of them with some level of pragmatic reasoning or just simple naivete. But what she does to Spinel just seems so damn cruel.

The Galaxy Warp was destroyed as part of the war. Spinel wasn't waiting all that long at that point, but without the warp, the only way to fetch her would be Pink's leg ship, which wasn't a feasible solution for Rose.

That's what I was thinking too, but then Steven was like "oh my powers got reset", which doesn't make a whole lot of sense compared to what happened to the other gems, but whatever, I guess. My head's gonna spin off my head if they just let Pink be the scapegoat for all of s6's problems and they never address the fact that Steven is still strongly tied to his gem's former incarnation.

I've never really seen her as useless-- hell in this movie she was helping Lion rescue people and cut a car in half, but rather there are some unreasonable expectations others have regarding what constitutes her "use" in the show.

She's Steven's bestie and love interest. She's moral support and she still actually does *some* things as opposed to any given anime where all the secondary cast members eventually just stand and stare at the spectacle of a single protagonist saving the world or whatever opposed to any earlier story relevance they may have had.

This show has also had--just like Voltron-- issues of being able to cram ALL of the desired content into the series when there are hard limits--episode lengths, however many episodes CN funds, etc. that they can't get around. Peridot, Lapis and Bismuth didn't help fight Spinel, either. But they had their roles in this movie While she's a very important figure in Steven's life, they may simply not have had enough time other than bare minimal stuff like her rescuing people to include her in this. because otherwise she'd just be an extra body to animate in the background. At least they let her do something even if in the grander scheme it wasn't a ginormous act.

You saw Pink. She was getting annoyed with Spinel. Wasn't her ditching Spinel prior to the whole Rose larping situation and when she was just starting to check out Earth. She probably just forgot about Spinel when she began larping.
