Tbh Spinel kept fighting up until the very end until she finally caved in under her own misery so as far as talk-no-jutsu goes I guess this one doesn't really annoy me. But at the end I was kind of expecting her to shatter herself, also totally thought she somehow faked her 'reset' so she could fuck around with Steven and in the final hour she was Merely Pretending. Her going off with the Diamonds is kind of weak and I know it's technically not but it still feels like DEM. Connie is annoying so I'm glad she was barely there, same thing with the townies not getting a lot of focus. It being Pink Diamond's fault again felt sorta weak so I get the impression Spinel's been around since before the show began but they couldn't find a place to work her in. I liked the movie, but it felt like a rehash of a lot of old material. They were billing it as an entrypoint for new fans, so it kind of makes sense in that context, but It feels odd to put a summation of the show right after a marathon of the original run. Still, I did feel a level of empathy for Spinett, she was a well realised character and the rubber hose animation was a good use of the expanded budget of a movie.
The show is coming back, though, and it didn't introduce any new longform threat or villain, and this movie really didn't introduce much new lore, it almost feels like a Dragonball Z movie, it just kind of exists to prop up the one character in a vacuum/

We seem to be on different wavelengths here. I'm not arguing that, given the circumstances, the outcome isn't plausible. I think it's borderline impossible, actually, but that's not what I'm arguing all the same. What I'm arguing is narrative tension. Because the final episode is so quick to resolve the issue it's been building up to for years, said resolution feels no more satisfying than any of the other trivial problems Steven solved in the past. It's poor storytelling. Tension has to build, climaxes have to be compelling, and resolutions have to be satisfying. The show fails because it doesn't treat its rising action, its sense of scale, with respect.

Am I the only one that didn't like Spinel joining the Diamonds, not just because it's a "meh" ending, but because it's not what Spinel needs?
She is damaged, a castaway and a misfit. Basically, a textbook Crystal Gem. She needs to be with them so they can help teach her that she's not as bad as she thinks she is, and she does have a place in the world, even if she messed up. Bismuth and Lapis would understand her perfectly.
It struck me as sad when Spinel went straight to performing and doing hand-stands to try and downplay her pain for the Diamonds. There's no way they could ever understand what 6000 years of abandonment and isolation did to her.
The Diamonds just see her a treasure that reminds them of PD. She could fill the spot of a spare Pearl or a court jester, at best. What happens when (not if) they get bored or fed up with her antics and freak-outs stemming from abandonment issues? They may be redeemed, but in the end, I really don't think they're equipped to care for her, or understand her needs.
I don't like this ending. It's not what Spinel deserves.

It didn't annoy me as much as the series did and I liked Spinel a lot. The "Hey Kid, you wanna /ss/?" song the Diamonds sing and Stepford Pearl gave me grown-up feelings, and that was nice. A lot of the songs were repetitive and the plot was nothing special. Nothing particularly memorable outside of Spinel... Rushed endings are also always a crime. 5.5/10. Never going to watch it again, but not out of spite.

I liked it, it was a much better climax to Steven's Talk-no-jutsu than the actual past season finale's.
Spinel didn't want to continue but she became too unstable that she wants to avoid another abandonment. Steven managed to bring her back down to sense by letting her get her anger out.
Lapis is beyond help, she's just a background prop at this point

I really liked it except for the ending where the diamonds take Spinel away, it seems like they couldn't think of a way to incorporate her so they had to just kind of move her out of the playing field of the show. Like Peridot and Lapis in a way. Other than that, pretty nice. Music and Spinel was the best part.
