If you have an honest rapist though, that is only one bad thing, therefore the latter is "better" than the former.

The episode where Joe got back his legs made it pretty clear that he was also a fairly shitty person, not nearly as bad as say Peter or Quagmire, but definitely bad enough that he had a fat enough head to neglect his wife.

That honestly seemed really out of character for Joe and a one-off episode thing. It's shown multiple times in other episodes that Joe is usually one of the only decent people left in the show and values his friends and relationship with Bonnie, even though Peter takes a dump on him at every opportunity and Bonnie hates being with him.

I'm trying to remember roughly when in the show Joe got his legs back, because if it was early show when everyone had relatively healthy relationships then yeah he's a dick for leaving Bonnie, if it's modern everyone hates everyone Family Guy where Bonnie is hoping for his death, cheating, and sometimes openly plotting his murder then yeah I'd say leaving her would be okay.
