I think most people were. The release schedule of the series really fucked with people's perception of the series' pace.
Season 1 took over a year to air, Season 2 about 10 months, Season 3 was all dumped in one Summer with a bit of Season 4 leaking in and Season 4 lasted for another 9 months and Season 5 took a year and a half to air... Really bad decisions on CN's part.

the relationship between the crew and the audience is the vast time gap between the start of an episode/season's production to the actual tv premiere date many months/years later.
So I think it's more reasonable to believe that they're divying up their episodes based on how many more they expect to be granted from CN. Season 6 has an unusual number of episodes from what I remember, which may as well be their last and probably the most poignant in wrapping up storylines.

I feel like all the characters are at their best at this point. Connie gets it in the neck from the fanbase because of Dewey Wins (and again in Together Alone) but she's also there giving Steven the Samwise treatment in CYM. Obviously Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet and Peridot go without saying.

People had been theorizing that Rose was Pink Diamond basically since we first saw Pink's legship in season 1, but the "big reveal" of Bismuth saying that Rose shattered Pink seemed like a darker subversion of that theory. But then it turns out no, actually Pink was just Rose the whole time. I think it works out pretty well though.

What I love about this episode is that it’s the natural evolution of what we learned in Steven’s Test. When we learned the gems don’t actually really know what they’re doing and they’re just trying their best. Rose has been built up as this highly intelligent and influential leader to the point of being a messianic figure. And when we finally get to see her thought process we find out that she had no idea what she was doing either. She basically fell ass backwards into a rebellion and all her decisions were spur of the moment and reactionary. Once you strip away her grace and mystery, Rose was just a kid who was way in over her head. Which really humbles her in retrospect. She’s not jaded or vindictive. She’s just a fuck up.

Reminder that the Diamonds came to wake up the tardy Cluster, not the runaway human. The (great) Peridot and Steven were afterthoughts that the Diamonds decided to focus on after the Cluster went rogue.
We could've had more episodes where we actually see Steven communicating with the Cluster. That would've been cool. I hate the SU writers, sometimes. Remember when the CG were Steven's mentors and they knew so much more about the world and its history for Steven to uncover?
