Explain the appeal of this to me, please

Over the past few years or so, cassettes have become popular again to a small degree. Besides nostalgia, what is the appeal? The sound quality isn't great and cassettes are prone to getting messed up by the device playing them.

I like the way they look and they are easier to move than records.

it was from ironic hipsters to zoomers wanting to feel included too with the old tech. in a makes no sense but in a world everyone uses bluetooth spofify phones and smart tvs with youtube linked right into their apartment, ig uess they want something physical again to stand out.
. like you said they sound bad and are two steps below records and digital.

Why not vinyl, though? that
1. does not sound like shit
2. at least gives you an excuse to collect large album covers, which is the main appeal of physical media

after a while it becomes a chore to constantly try keep up with the latest music format, sometimes it's just easier to stick with what you know

can't listen to vinyl in the car

vinyl isnt portable, and harder to show off on the bus or to other zoomers at lunch
