What conjugation?
The second person singular "thou" came to have such offensive connotations that the formerly plural "you" replaced it in all roles by the 1650s.
This created the a singular/plural ambiguity in the second person that English still struggles with today ("y'all", "you guys")

Wasn't it somewhat due to "you" not only being plural, but also being used for politely addressing someone superior in station to yourself? So by using "thou", you could be implicitly rude by the fact you didn't use "you"?
It's true that "you" is polite address, but other languages with a informal/polite distinction in the second person didn't lose their informal conjugation. German still has "du bist", French still has "tu es", Spanish still has "tu eres".
I can't prove it, but I believe it's because the English second person verb endings all had those vicious "t"s, so every time you talked to someone using that conjugation it sounded like you were hurling ethnic slurs at them.
Keep in mind that, like the second person singular in many other languages, it carried informal/familiar connotations. Its use in Biblical language was meant to imply a close relationship with God, which is a distinguishing feature that Christians liked to advertise when they weren't the only ones in town. Nowadays, the archaic language makes it sound more formal that it was. You'd use it to talk to a friend or child, but not your feudal lord.
It used to be okay to use any word in a descriptive manner. Like you can talk about the word "nigger", but genuinely calling someone a nigger is different.

The writing on this seems very late Claremont. Did Marvel actually publish this? The production values are dreadful; the font they're using for lettering looks worse than what I'd expect to see on an amateurish webcomic.
