Synopsis: Mankey is a young knight who lives in Urban Kingdom – a place where all sorts of fabulous creatures and people live together. Mankey is half-human. The only feature that distinguishes him from ordinary people is the two flames above his head that cause him many problems. They reflect all his feelings and emotions. Mankey never feels like he belongs.
A Dragon kidnapped the Princess, and like many others knights, Mankey rushed to find her. He dreams of becoming a hero and finally fulfilling his dream – to become a real human. But as he and his companions investigate the Princess’s disappearance, it becomes clearer that her kidnapping is just one part of a plan by the mysterious D’Ark Adviser, making the inhabitants of the kingdom suffer and turning their misfortunes into dark magic.
A satirical parody of the modern world. A world where fantasies and fears, problems and new social phenomena come to life and take the form of real people, creatures and monsters.
This world is illogical, having all the signs of the Middle Ages; it largely reflects the current reality, problems and fears of modern society. Therefore, the world is filled with references to modernity: crystal balls instead of smartphones, monsters that issue loans, which are controlled by the Dwarfs, Sirens are like pop stars that collect fans and much more.
just once I would like a action show where the boy character isn't a wimp or an idiot but instead actually competent and cool
Caleb Martin
be sure to tell us when the episodes are online for streaming user
Joshua Thomas
Braids are my weakness. I want to know who's the human parent and what the fire horn side of him belongs to.
Jaxon Martinez
The animation is pretty interesting, is it gonna air on the youtube channel ?
Dominic Green
Ukraine would be WWIII's equivalent to its predecessors' Serbia and Poland respectively. I don't think it would be annexed entirely in this modern setting.
No, no, it's fine. Only 3.6 Roentgen. Not great, not terrible.
Seriously though, it's nice to see animation from a country not normally on Yea Forums's radar. Or anyone's radar except the Russian military's. Ha ha! Topical.
Christian Lee
I want her to brap on my face
Elijah Davis
Slavs pretty much don't give a shit about violence and children, which explains their overall toughness. If only they took better choices, they'd be in better conditions.
Artstyle is great, animation sucks, voice is annoying, premise is kind of cliched in a 2nd world-trying to imitate first world stuff kind of way. Overall It's good to see something different at least and I will give it a try.
Lincoln White
>be sure to tell us when the episodes are online for streaming user
Will try. I subscribed to their youtube channel.
>The animation is pretty interesting, is it gonna air on the youtube channel ?
No idea. Lemme try to find out. Came across this by accident while trying to find out what animation is coming out in 2019.
Jordan Allen
Got my interest, hopefully it'll be good to deserve more threads. We really need more variety in shows aside from the usual USA/Canada/France ones.
Daniel Scott
Agreed, let's pray for better animation and improved designs if they ever reach a second season
Adam Green
They can't all be great names like "Anne," "Luz," or "Tulip."
Connor Foster
It's kinda got an Alethrion feel to it. I'm curious.
Summer Kingdom (13 x 22 min’, 3 seasons, Roman Kepkalo dir. Yana Palamarenko pr., Yarki Studio, Ukraine). A brainchild of The CEE Animation Workshop training programme, the project benefited in terms of its storytelling development (having 13 treatments ready for each episode of the first season). The story has a brave Knight named Mankey, who searches for the lost Princess and gets trapped into a strange and ominous chain of events controlled by a secret puppet master. Using an exact parallel between The Middle Ages and its teenager target audience (on the verge of adulthood), it boasts a 2D main character design to kill for. With a budget secured for development, it now looks for TV/Broadcast co-production partners.
Aiden Morris
>No eps aired yet. >Funded for three seasons.
How can I get what they've got? Glad they're going with 22 minute episodes. Apparently the Ukraine can figure out that works best, but Americans are still trying to pull off ten minute episodes.
Chase Diaz
Ohhhhhhhh... The Princess is the cat.
Ryder Ross
I dig the idea but holy fuck I really hope that animation and the main characters voice is just a placeholder, it's borderline unwatchable right now.
Slav's were born to suffer and they learn this from a very early age, what constitutes as child friendly among Eastern Europeans varies wildly from American beliefs
Lincoln Jenkins
I'm almost certain that the voice actor will change (it's probably just someone's English-speaking friend), and the animation will... improve. Probably.
This is literally people that did animation on casino games taking the money they made doing casino games and trying to make a real cartoon with some EU help. They'll hopefully be able to improve the animation, but they can't possibly have the best tools at their disposal.
Nolan Perry
His shorts are cute.
Jackson Bailey
>his
Um. That's the Princess.
Luke Brooks
Each individual part of this girl's design would normally annoy me, but somehow it comes together.
ahh the girl is cute, now i have to watch this crap
Connor Morgan
The trailer pretty much shows that the dragon is a wizard dude fucking up.
Guessing that's the big bad villain's plan. Mess with people's emotions to turn everyone into dragons and cats and things. Fuck, they're going to tap right into the fetishfan market.
Jack Richardson
Yea Forums claimed another one.
Jeremiah Nelson
Probably just means that they've got three seasons PLANNED, not funded. If they've got a budget for DEVELOPMENT but no TV/Broadcast co-production partners.
Ian Bell
But they have EU funding?
Jace Gonzalez
No, the EU puts on a forum that they attended. The purpose of the forum is to give studios help polishing their work into a really good pitch. They've got some cash to make this, but unless they can find some TV/Broadcast partner, maybe at Cartoon Forum this month, we're looking at youtube eps if we're lucky. And that doesn't give much room for improving the animation quality.
Thomas Taylor
feels like I'd enjoy this more as a comic. but yeah, this is cute.
Jaxon Wood
There better be r34 of that bratty-looking princess or help me god.
Lincoln Watson
Maybe they can increase the fucking framerate. It's laggy as hell.
Hunter Perry
That's why they're trying to get a co-producer this month. They don't want to release it looking like this.
Jack Howard
Five'll get you twenty the dark skinned warrior chick (Brayana?) will get it first.
Because HNNNNG, braids.
Nathaniel Brooks
Somewhere in the Ukraine there's a guy going "Ivan, you'll never believe it! We got like 100 hits today! We've hit the big time!"
Jonathan Smith
Can someone explain the point of not allowing video embedding to me? Is there a benefit? Does it let you measure where people are coming from better or something?
Caleb Long
ukrainuan cartoons? The only good is There Once Been a Dog.
Christian Perry
You know the rules. Make it.
Alexander Brooks
Any fanart at all would be nice
Cameron Hughes
This spells doom for american animation industry. Ukrainian director, writer, storyboarder etc. not to mention animator costs nothing compared to price of american one. At least correans couldn’t make the whole show and market it themselves, this obviously is not the case with these slavs.
Oliver Rivera
>ukranian cartoon Finally we'll be able to see something from Slavland other than fairy tale adaptations and edgy political garbage.
I wonder what is the edgy political message of this one...
Leo White
>we can't afford for real animation thanks for communism There's your message shithead.
Thomas Moore
The Princess represents America.
Jacob Sanchez
Top tier girls
Thomas Hall
Oh fuck, the Princess is a spoiled brat stuck in cat form and she's tsundere for him and jealous when he hangs with the warrior chick, I already want more fuuuuuuuuuuck I'm predictible...
Gavin Cook
Yeah, they should consider changing it for final release.
>Alethrion Not seeing it but thanks for reminding me that Alethrion exists.
Jayden Flores
I belive television stop motion animation doesn’t get much better than that.
Matthew Myers
Second
John Price
If it's a pitch video the animation is okay. They need to say "here's our style, please God help us improve our animation "
Hunter Green
Damn cool sword.
Daniel Miller
Now we're talking!
Jace Butler
>Cartoon Forum is underrated, I wish these shows could get uploaded to MEGA from euro anons.
Considering it's Ukranian and was probably made on a budget of 100 hryvnia (1 hryvnia = 0.04 US dollars), the animation seems good to me. There ARE bits where it goes jarring, like when the girl runs, but those would hopefully be polished out in the final version, and even if they're not it's a small price to pay for pretty cool backgrounds and character designs.
Do we find out how well studios do at that? Is it all in French or something?
James Diaz
There are a lot of these that got my attention. Are the pilots going to get released to the public? I'd like to take a look.
Xavier Morgan
I know, right? The Pharaoh one looks fun. Usually the pitch videos aren't shared with the public, but every year a few more studios put something on youtube.
Jordan Flores
I'm not complaining, but why does France keep making Calamity Jane cartoons? That's gotta be three now, at least .
Xavier Perry
I will see if I can't find a few more trailers. We could have a thread around when they do the forum.
