I have no idea. I see no benefit for them from making these. They wanted kids, but it was never going to be kids that watched it. The support from adult fans is phenomenal, but they aren't doing anything about that. Honestly, my best theory is that some big guy at Nickelodeon had a nostalgiaboner for these shows and wanted to see them come back, and that's why they turned out so well with little executive input.

That, and the scheduler was being retarded by not scheduling a matathon of the show before the movie. It was always doomed to fail.

The trans rep really struck me in the special. And I've been mulling over why this one example has stuck with me so hard over the past couple weeks. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind.

And I realized. every single trans character in TV, even the PC written ones, are in something that's gritty, adult, pretty much always live action, and with a heavy tone. But most of the shows that I really love are animated, lighthearted, often aimed at kids, and wholesome.

Is there anything else with a trans character in it that even kind of fits that description? I kind of need more of this in my life.

I had no issue with the trans stuff. It just wasn't really entertaining in any significant way. Too many parody on the nose jokes that weren't that great for me. Invader Zim's movie was way better in general and still had it's family/aw feels moments (Gaz actually cares about Dib, his dad treats him more like a son he just wants to take interest in his stuff, Zims the butt of the joke, but the Tallest get their punishment).

Maybe Princess Marco or something? I'm not really sure if he's supposed to be "trans" but he's not treated in any weird way for having his like dual princess persona, in fact he's respected in the world it seems.
Really I don't think trans people are at a point in society or media where they're accepted even nearly as much as gay men for example. Like there are cartoon shows out there with 2 dads or gay characters that aren't too serious but even then there aren't many.

Like, even if you're ok with transsexualism, I don't think being a transexual is something anybody would want to be. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own bodies, but it's not that simple for some people and that's pretty unfortunate, not "awesome."

It felt like the writers had to walk on eggshells when it came to Rachel. While it could be argued that nothing would make some people accept >her, I think more people would have been more ok with it if the writers were a little less restrained about it.

It's kind of funny how Rocko's theme was all about change, but Invader Zim came out and hardly anything about it changed from the original show.

There is a character from the Loud House who is trans, but s/he is extremely minor. So minor that literally nobody noticed until a couple of seasons later when the VA mentioned it.

I think someone asked Nefcy or someone else who worked on the show about "TransMarco" and they said he wasn't trans but they were aware of the theory so even though they couldn't have Marco chop off his dick in an episode, they deliberately tried to write him in a way that wouldn't sink the theory.
