Why were the art styles of Season 1 and 2 so radically different?

Disney fucked up

they wanted better animation for 2 so they switched to something cheaper

Chris Savino worked on it

I like the second design better. But, I do see why switching styles so suddenly can be jarring.

My problem is the fact Jake's dragon form was a total chad

Attached: 5875015-adjl_season_1_jake_dragon_svg_by_cd4-d5zqus3.png (817x977, 201K)

Was easier to animate but uglier

And then became this lanky piece of shit

Different showrunner, different artstyle. It's common. Look at Dexter's 2nd and 3rd season and Johnny Bravo's 1st and 2nd season and you see how different they are too.

To this day I still wonder what that green shit in his hair was.

Hair dye...

To me he looked like the mix between an Eastern and Western dragon (with his Grandpa looking fully Eastern in contrast), and it got undone to just make him look like a classic Eastern Dragon instead.

More accurate to what he really is.

I don't see any Eastern dragon influences in his first design

But I liked the stylized look of his second design

He's cute af

Why wasn't the blonde girl a nudist?

What are your thoughts on the Jake Long 's Nazi teacher?

It was better

Was the mom hotter in season 1?

The answer? Steve Loter. Kim Possible was a hit, so Disney tasked Steve Loter with fixing their other shows: American Dragon and Brandy & Mr. Whiskers. Both shows changed significantly between seasons in one form or another and he was responsible.

How did Brandy and Whiskers change?

I thought it was because he was already a super chad in his first form which didnt make sense because hes still just a kid. The lanky shit form is him before he works out and hits puberty.

In season one, Brandy was trapped in the Amazon and they had no modern luxuries. The point was that this snobbish dog had to rough it out in the jungle.

In season two, they threw all of that away and said that the jungle was secretly modern all along. So they had shopping malls, amusement parks, television networks and all sorts of stuff. The original premise was tossed out and they just did a bunch of modern stories, like Brandy shoplifting and getting a job.

I don't see it

Rottwood went from a poor man's Mr. Crocker to a surprisingly-competent character in Season 2.

>an average kid transforms into an average, not super buff dragon
>don't see the resemblance

Season 2 was a fucking mistake

the head is the biggest problem
if it would've matched more, it would've been fine

S1 reminds me of Recess. S2 reminds me of Spectacular Spiderman.

Literally too furry for disney

Had to be radically redesigned in order to prevent another generation of children getting 'strange feelings' while watching

His mom was fine as fuck in both styles though.

Some of those (Brad, the principal) were massive improvements, though.

Also, the writing and story were objectively better.

>Also, the writing and story were objectively better.
I always enjoy the insecurity that forces people to put the world "objectively" before their opinion.

This episode made me feel sick every time I saw it.

Honestly if they didn't turn Jake's dragon mode into a salamander with limbs and wings then I wouldn't mind the art change.

Wrong. For example: "Cars 2 is better than Citizen Kane" is an objectively incorrect opinion.

Depends on the context.

what the hell happened to bertha

You cannot argue with a post-modernist. Cause the reply will be:
>but what is an argument
>but what is real

Jordan's 15 minutes were up a long time ago, user.

Who the fuck is Jordan?

That's not even applicable.
What is an "average dragon" even supposed to look like?

Not a bodybuilder who skipped leg day.

I dunno, but American Dragon: Jake Long needs a reboot, but with a new, yet consistent art style throughout.

That's bullshit and we both know it.

Money problems, as far as I know. To be honest, some characters actually improved in Season 2; some others (like Jake himself), not so much.

True. But that has more to do with the fact that the two films aren't even remotely comparable than quality.

I am right, and we both know it.

Refer to

This was the best dragon, the contrast with his grandpa showed that he was actually both Asian and White. I personally didn’t like the change.

If he started as this and then became the Chad one it would be much better.

>Bertha is worse
>Oracles are worse
>principle is worse
>Brad became Brad Chad
Why was season two shit?

>>principle is worse
As someone who constantly bitches about the art change I think the principal was better.
Definitely more Milfy

How would you do an American Dragon reboot, Yea Forums?

I wouldn't. Leave the good from the past be. In my experiences, trying to reboot things generally is only done in the interest of grabbing a quick buck without any care as to the accuracy to the source material, only able to get people in with nostalgia baiting. I'll die before I let Hollywood butcher the show that defined my childhood.

I never realized Pandarus was supposed to be a Trump parody until now.

I don't see any Asian influences in that design

Bertha had it the fucking worst in terms of design but the twins are an offense, the point was that they looked almost the same as each other but now they look completely different. Silver looks cute but definitely not the same character either.

The principal and Brad are good tho.

sauce

The coloring is very Asian. Red, Gold, Green (Jade, Emerald) and Black are typical Asian colors.

But neither of those shows needed "fixing", what the fuck Disney.

CHAD western style dragon
Virgin eastern style dragon

It's not even about what can or cannot be objectively compared. I personally wouldn't compare something intended to be a work of art to what only wants to be mass entertainment for example, but that's beside the point. It's about the need to stress out this "objectively" as if it would make the point any more valid.

I like how much of a chad Brad looks like in season 2

This show is what made me into a scalie desu

This is correct. This was their reason for the design change.

>there was a season 2 episode where Jake ate nothing but junk food
>we would've had the return of fat Jake if it had kept the art style

Make it a continuation starring Haley.

>imagine if the show was about the dad
>imagine he knew he was marrying into a dragon family
>imagine they all had dragon forms
>imagine it was about the dad dealing with shit way out of his league or knowledge
>imagine him trying trying to help his dragon children even if they are capable of throwing cars
>imagine him cuddling with his dragon wife

I'm reminded of the Teen Wolf cartoon and the kid sister that really really really wanted to be a werewolf but was too young.

Jesus, cartoons used to suck.

redhead genocide

What did they do?

They directed most of season 2 episodes.
