Psylocke wasn't actual Japanese representation, she was a British woman wearing a Japanese woman's body. In the age of wokeness, authentic representation is very important. Look for them to next start going after characters who were created as white people, but were retconned into being something else, because they won't be considered real representation either.

It's additionally embarrassing for Marvel because their editor in chief broke a rule that forbade Marvel editors also writing Marvel books, by using a Japanese pen-name. The editors who were hiring "Akira Yoshida" knew they were hiring their friend, but the woke and the outraged have spun this story of cronyism into instead being about Marvel trying to hire an "authentic Japanese voice" and being deceived.
