It's amazing how dated the movie is now, the only references that are still current today are based on fictional characters like Batman, Hulk, Hellboy, Iron Man, Alvin and the Chipmunks and KFP.

It's fun. It's a stronger series than Legends of Awesomeness, but the frustrating part is that the Furious Five aren't there and the panda kids, while not annoying, are also not as interesting.

They had great chemistry in 2. There was a lot of connection in terms of their being orphaned (that 3 threw out the window, thank you very much), and you could tell Tigress was starting to open up emotionally (the boat scene, where you could tell she was a little stung when Po said "so hardcore you don't feel anything."). Then of course, you've got that hug scene at the end of two (both of them, actually). Tigress had come a long, long way from the cold hardass she was to Po in KFP1. She was genuinely becoming his friend, as was the rest of the five, but her even more so. We see grief and hopelessness hit her hardest when we think Po has been killed by Shen, not even answering monkey when he tries to be optimistic after their capture. On Po's end of the deal, we see him come to her first when Shen has the bridge blown away. All in all, you don't see any other two characters with this much going for each other.

Most of it is actually pretty meta. it would make sense for the two characters in a vacuum, but we have to remember that it's primarily a kid's movie. it definitely appeals to adults, but at the end of the day, romance will just alienate the kids, whether it draws us adults in or not.

I mean, Shen still killed most of them. There's only a tiny village left alive.

I'm sure they plan on bringing at least Tigress in a future season. The lead kid is established as a fan of her and even she and Po talked about her in the latest season.

KFP3 was basically a bottle episode of a movie, the pandas were retarded, and it took away the most interesting part of the story - that being genocide. You'd have a hard time making a sequel shittier than that.

Funny enough that was going to be a plot point in KF3. The original script had that female panda who likes Po be his arranged marriage that there parents set up when they were born. As soon as I found that out, combined with the chinese trailer for the movie showing Mantis and Crane becoming Jade Zombies, I thought Tigress was going to be the only one of the five that survives Kai's rampage because she went with Po as emotional support. Once she meets the arranged wife she would start questioning what her relationship with Po is and whether she wants to take it to a romantic place would be her arc of the movie. Instead we get her bonding with a toddler panda girl like a mother. I recommend looking up the original script, probably would've been better then the one we got.

Pod is good. Animation is great, Grandma is funny as hell, hope for a season 2. Xiao is derpyhot, for a teenager (i love idiot female characters), Jade Tusk is hot, and Jing is...attractive, for a kid panda. Shut up, she just is somehow. Needs more waifus, though. ADULT waifus. I don't feel comfortable with myself on this one.

Honestly just like them being close friends more so than an open relationship, not totally sure why. Guess I'd like it more if they just didn't do the whole "they're really awkward about liking each other" thing that always happens.
I'd like it best as a background thing at most, like just having them be a little bit closer with each other than the rest of the five or hanging out by themselves sometimes.
I also really liked the new outfit they got for tigress in 3. Do we know why they changed her in particular? I don't remember any of the other five getting changes, but only tigress really wears much clothes anyway beyond an hat and shorts.

user, read my post again. "thinking someone is a joke" implies you have zero respect for them. That's not true of tigress at all. Even without wu-xi fingerhold, he's still a damn good fighter who took out Tai-lung mano-e-mano and has proven himself in combat on multiple missions with her and the five. Even if you don't take after the "item" angle (which is totally fine) you still see she thinks of him as a friend, and that care is mutual. You don't hug someone and urge them to stay safe if you see them as below you, macguffin move notwithstanding.

It's not so much that you shouldn't reference pop culture, it's that you shouldn't make the references so blatant. The problem with the parody movies of the modern era versus the ones like Airplane films is that the latter were able to blend numerous references at once. A single scene of Airplane in and of itself could have at least 3 references and numerous non-sequiturs that could be funny alone just as they were hilarious for the in-joke the audience would get. It's like how the first 2 Scary Movies were able to parody several then-recent horror films, but kept the overall plot centered around one (first one being Scream, second being The Haunting remake). Then, the third film and on pretty much just threw together like 3 movies plots into one, and got progressively more muddled because they couldn't keep the narrative straight. Didn't help that they also tried to bank on Leslie Nielson, pretty much just using him as "senile old dude" throughout all the schlock they tossed him into.

I watched Paws of Destiny just for the gay warthog couple.

Yes but he is functional and ties the message of the movie together well. He may be a bit by-the-numbers and be tied to Shifu more than Poe but he does the job he needs to and looks pretty good doing it.

The problem with modern spoof movies is not that they lampoon pop culture, but they mistake referencing it without any real joke or punchline as a joke in and of itself. That's literally all Friedberg ans Seltzer do.

Eh, they sometimes have a joke, but it's often the most predictable one. Like, "remember that scene from this horror film where the man needs to cut off his leg? Wouldn't it be funny if he cut off the wrong one?"
Something like Airplane was able to reference scenes like the beach scene from "From here to Eternity" and recreate it almost shot for shot, except the couple are getting completely covered in seaweed and other gunk from the lapping waves and not reacting to it.

Honestly, there’s just something about these Dreamworks movie spin-off cartoons that I just can’t stand. I love the movie franchises;I love Httyd, Madagascar, KFP, the Puss-In-Boots/Shrek; but when it comes to the cartoons, I can barely get through a few episodes before I ditch it for good. The only exception was the Penguins show and the early episodes of Legends of Awesomeness.

I know a lot of people love the shows and praise them all the time, but for me, I’d rather just have a good time watching the movies, then leave the franchise off on a positive note.

Sun Wukong wasn't too bad, especially since he plays a huge role in the story arc, especially since the main villain of the season is Baigujing.

Though yeah, the show's kinda bland. It has a less kiddish tone than Legends of Awesomeness did, but the kids being the protagonists means the character development is doomed to be simplistic. At least Po being a mentor keeps him from being as obnoxious as he was in LoA.

Po's dad was implied to be a fairly decent warrior considering the fact he fought off wolves, survived an encounter with shen, and managed to escape to the village. Come around and he's just a doofus, as are the rest of the pandas.

There's also a lot of elements that aren't explore in the movie, including the fact that it's noone seems terribly bothered that oogway used to be just as fearsome a warlord as Kai, and quite a few missed opportunities considering Kai must have jaded both Tai Lung and Shen.

That being said, I still like it, it's just not as good as the other two. Especially 2.

Pretty sure he's one of the talismans you can see in different scenes, just never used. But yea, KP3 really was a big step down from 2, hopefully if they ever do a fourth it'll reach the heights and maturity of the second.

3 kinda burned and salted the earth in that regard. I have no idea WHAT the fuck those idiots were thinking (I'm assuming it's the China branch's nonsense idea and the Americans were just afraid to say no). By the end of 3 Po was a chi-master able to basically do magic, with no need for real kung fu or anything any more. Not a whole lot of room to go from there. Goddamn retards took a series with loads of potential and jumped right to an unnecessary endgame.

A lot of people don't even know that Airplane is directly a parody of Zero Hour! and even has lines lifted word-for-word from it, along with the main character's name. The difference is that the movie remains funny for those who have never heard of Zero Hour! which is most people.
