What's the verdict? Did it btfo AC 1000 and DC 1000?
What's the verdict? Did it btfo AC 1000 and DC 1000?
It had a couple good stories but it's pretty obvious that they'd stretched the gimmick as far as it could go by the time they hit the seventies and that wound up hurting the thing overall. It's not as bad as AC or 'Tec 1000 but it felt more like an exercise for Ewing to wank off his continuity cred than an actual anniversary celebration.
Some bits felt insincere and a few years they were grasping at straws for stuff to put in.
>Did it btfo AC 1000 and DC 1000?
Yes, but that's not an high bar.
I liked it, it was what 'tec and AC should have been.
It didn't have a single good story in it.
Cringe
Based
Aww, you butthurt? You butthurt.
Lame as fuck.
80 splashpages of 80 at one time or current marvel artists would've been much better.
Fire Chubulski
Aside from Ewing's dumb English communist sympathies I liked it. The page by JMS where he admits regretting Sins Past made me legitimately lol. And the In Memorium page made me tear up. Real classy.
No, it was shit and so were they. Just more shit than the other shit.
I thought it was pretty good despite a few pages that left me either puzzled or were simply dull. Unlike others, I think it needed some more English communism from Al Ewing, because his main story was very enthralling.
I honestly enjoyed it. Ewing is doing what Ewing does best, tying an engaging narrative throughout marvel history, and the Eternity mask seems like it has really unique power.
I liked a lot of the 1 page stories too, She Hulk, Night raven, a bunch of the Spidey ones, Gail Simone's Deadpool, Gleason's Cap one, etc. They weren't all winners (ones like the captain marvel one were awful), but it was overall pretty enjoyable for me.
And hey, it was really cool seeing Patriot alongside the young avengers again.
It's not really a celebration of marvel history as much as it just a celebration of the marvel universe in general, but I'm not annoyed because we already have that with Waid's book.
>Oh yeah, that happened
I am annoyed because we already have that with Waid's book.
I loved this comic so much I masturbated afterwords.
A few were really bad but overall, very enjoyable
Yet their were lots of notable firsts for them to choose from in the 70s.
The Ewing stuff was fantastic, but that only made up a fraction of the issue. The individual pages were hit or miss. A handful of great pages that I'm sure will get reposted ad nauseam in one-page threads, but most of them were really forgettable.
It was better than AC/DC 1000 if only for not having anything written by Bendis in it.
I literally only bought it for the cute Jen cover
AC #1000 > MC #1000 > DC #1000
>Ultimate given a variant cover
>nothing in the interior
It was shit
It was pretty good even with some bad or lackluster pages.. I really liked how despite it feeling kinda forced at first many of the pages being heroes talking about themselves in interviews was revealed as part of the plot, and some of the choices they made with the events they used for each year not being the obvious ones fits with the book's theme of highlighting the D-listers. If 1001 is as good at this was the pair might become a go-to recommendation.
AC #1000 > MC #1000 > DC #1000
It had the Ben one pager so you're fucking wrong
Duggan
Zdarsky
Ross
Metzer
Ahmed
Ewing (multiple ones)
Busiek
Simone
Gaiman
Off the top of my head.
Utterly forgettable.
Miracleman is in it so it's better than AC and Tec 1000
It had Miracleman so it's already better than both of them
Miracleman is featured, so I doth declare thee to be superior to the competition.
nah ac and dc had actual stories in them not shilling the diversity sjw squad or random interviews to shill a dumb character with a stupid power
it didn't have Morrison, Johns, Snyder, Tynion and Bendis
so it was way better
With the exception of Morrison (because wtf, guy), this was savage
This. It lacks true substance.
I liked it, unlike 'tec and AC.
DC should take notes for their next celebration/milestone, and i'm not saying that with malice. I think what Marvel did with this was a great idea and it is incredible how everything felt in the right place with a few exceptions.
It was good overall. Some of the stories were weak, but the art was so varied that it never really became a drag. Ewing's overarching plot was fascinating, whereas DC1000 had King being King and AC1000 had Bendis being Bendis. Unlike those two, it actually felt like a celebration of the history of Marvel.
If you think the ranking of quality isn't the exact same as the release order you're a grade A fucking stooge and probably a batfag.
AC1000 was the "best" and by that I mean least terrible. DC1000 was completely terrible. Marvel 1000 should have been stopped somewhere in production (like when each team got a one page script) and axed. Give eight creative teams 10 pages each to do a LEGIT story from each decade. That one page shit was absolutely terrible. I read six pages and closed it after flipping through to see the art.
You're a marvelfag no doubt about it. There is no story. Johns AC story was better than any of this shit and I hope that man slips on ice for most of what he writes.
>admitting to have read only six pages
>AC was better than any of this!
Surely a valid opinion.
But did Miracleman kiss anybody?

Yes.
Meh. It's just an anthology with varying levels of quality. If anything I can see this as something for collectors.
Yeah but both AC and DC 1000 were really embarrassing, the only good stories were done by veteran writers/artists and there weren't enough of those. I liked the car story in AC 1000 but in my opinion using these books to set up awful future stories was a misstep - they should have been tributes through and through.
On the other hand the eternity mask story in MC 1000 is actually pretty interesting, mostly because it has a competent writer behind it. Some of the pages were pretty good too, which is more than I can say for AC and DC - the MAC story was unneeded but mostly everything else was fine. I don't think they need a Marvel Comics 1001 though
Yes
Wrong
And I'll even tolerate LAAAAAAAAAAAAND for this one
