Age of Resistance is out in 2 days. Looks like reviews are very positive.
Discuss the original film, the series, and all things Thra.
Also, puppets are Yea Forums.

Here's hoping it doesn't suck
Come on guys, where are all the Crystal Boomers at?
It's really fucking weird trying to picture Simon doing the Chamberlain
It's probably going to be weird as shit at first but hopefully once we're used to all the new voices the actors will give a good performance
Why wasn't Kira the main protagonist? She was actually competent, and wasn't a useless dipshit. Seriously, this movie goes into straight up Puma Man territory at times.
Jen being so useless got even funnier with all the new lore revealing that he's named after the fucking Gelfling version of Hercules, Jarra-Jen.
From the reviews, Simon's performance is apparently really great. They say he stayed true to the character and didn't do any dumb shit with it so that's nice.
What I'm more concerned about is that the lip sync is apparently really rough. The VAs recorded after the puppeteers did their work so it'll look pretty weird. That said, after watching a lot of Dinosaurs for the past week or so I've gotten really used to awkward lip sync so I probably won't mind much.
This is puppetry after all. A little roughness is to be expected.
What I'm more interested in is the lore. I want to see the Emperor go ham on some worthless gelflings. Even lying in his deathbed on sheets that I can only assume was covered in what dusty shit and dried piss managed to leak out of what was left of his decaying body he /still/ scared the fuck out of anyone who had the gall to try and say they were in charge while he was still breathing.
Someone like that did some really fucked up shit to get that kind of reputation.
This looks so uncanny and gross. How anyone can derive enjoyment from this shit is weird.
Everybody loves puppets zoomer.
If you wanted to talk about your sex life you could have just said so user
>This is puppetry after all. A little roughness is to be expected.
this, it'll take a really bad showing to make me not overlook it
I obviously can't speak for myself but the reviews have specifically loved the series expanding on the original film's world and lore in substantive ways. I sure hope that's true.
Anyways, it looks like Daniel Pemberton (Into The Spider-Verse's composer) is handling the music for this show. Sounds good so far.

Whether it sucks or doesn't suck is irrelevant. Do not come here expecting anything but a flood of hate.
Remember, if you love something and talk about it with other people who love it you're in a filthy hugbox. If you hate something then you're just a cool enough dude for Yea Forums(nel).
Crystal threads have been remarkably chill
There was the requisite reeeing at the start about Trump and anger over rebooting
But basically those that actually care enough to keep paying attention have been quite nice to converse with here
There will be some MCU bait or stonetoss thread that will take the attention of the simpletons
There's also the fact no one really cares about it aside from the few puppet fans on the site, so the few that are interested are a pretty tight-knit group.
Not to mention we settle all our disputes with a good ol' Trial by Stone around these here parts anyway. Trash talk is overrated when seeing who can hit a rock harder is way more fun.
What is to say? The Skeksis are the best part of that movie.
There should not have been ANYTHING made at all. By making any prequel or sequel the magic of the original movie sips away.
Fuck Hollywood, and fuck nostalgiafags who lap it up.
>You talking shit to me bitch
>You're damn right I am you feathery skinned fuck
Cue the Autistic screeching
Oh boo hoo
If that's the case then shit was fucked long ago with all of those other prequels and comics
Considering how both characters are set up and Henson's history of doing good female characters, I kinda suspect that's intentional.
Jen has explicitly been raised by a bunch of lackadaisical hermit-wizards, while Kira's been taught to survive in the woods by earthy (thra-y?), honest folk. Jen is apart from the world, from an ivory tower environment, while Kira is immersed in it from day one, thoroughly part of it.
Jen has been taught how to read and write and do math, but not how to take care of himself, while Kira is book dumb but comes from an actual culture instead of a bunch of dreamy half-people.
Jen is selected as the Chosen One and the movie makes it clear that that does not mean he is The Hero - he does stupid things, understands little of what's happening, fumbles along and is only useful when his knowledge comes into play or when he's in the right place, at the right time, with the right motivation. He's the Chosen One BECAUSE he was destined to meet Kira, The Heroine, and by meeting her end up in the right place, at the right time, with the right motivation. Everything else was just a matter of his master giving him a push in the direction of Aughra and the shard while simultaneously choosing to die in order to remove the Emperor from the equation and unbalance the Skeksis.
I chuckle out of seeing that part of the comic.
Spoilers are already out. Trump metaphors are too obvious. Skeksis even manipulate an election.
That's super interesting actually. A lot of peoples' issue with the film is that Jen is kind of a bland protaganist, but from this angle it seems very intentional. Cool take.
>political corruption in entertainment is exclusive to only being about Trump now
>surely not that politicians and demagogues in general are corrupt assholes
Oh fuck off
>Skeksis even manipulate an election.
Of course they do, that's literally their thing during the time period.
They're trying to be the "enlightened rulers. The chosen successors of the beings that brought forth the golden age before the conjunction."
You don't break out the whips and milking machines that early. You've got to lull them into a false sense of security first, get them docile and stupid, and then strap them down and suck out all that rich creamy essence.
This. Also flood of hate is only for terrible shows. Good shows only get a trickle of hate right off. Anyone who says differently is a incel marketeer who should just end it for everyone's best interest.
I want to drink Deet's essence
I wonder what role the new fizzgig character, Baffi, is going to play?
It's Big Boss
So what part is Aughra going to play in all this? Just hyping gelflings up like in the trailer?
Never liked it. It sucks.
She's the avatar of Thra (not too clear in the original movie outside of the fact that there's only one of her kind and nobody makes a fuss about that), so presumably she herself will have some part in uncovering the Skeksis' lies.
So is basically everything coming out of Hollywood gonna have some jab or reference or caricature of Trump now until election season or is this gonna be the new "sky lasers" for the next decade?
bump
Is this going to actually interesting or just happen to be another "uncanny elf/dog hybrid puppets curiously observe stuff for 90 minutes" like in the original movie?
Just saw it for the first time yesterday.
Nice, plot is simple but the visuals are amazing.
Doesn't look like it has many places to shove a political agenda in, but I am sure the Netflix series is going to prove me wrong.
So how fast you think it'll be up for torrent?
By Sunday? I am ready and eager to marathon the shebang in a Lazy Labor Day.
I’m excited but at the same time I do wish this was a proper sequel rather than a prequel.
That proposed script about a girl made of fire coming up from the center of the earth to steal a shard of the Dark Crystal to reignite her worlds dying sun sounded interesting AF.
It got made into a comic. It was kind of crap, and reading it you can see why it never really got off the ground as a movie.
For one thing it brings back the urRu and Skeksis in a way that makes no sense considering the lore or how they left, simply because the Hensons didn't want to write a movie without the Skeksis. In retrospect, a prequel makes much more sense considering their desire to use every part of the setting.
hhhhHMMMMMMMMMmmmm
Crystal threads have been alright, because contrarians ironically out themselves as casual plebs if they diss the movie.
t.Your mom when she first took a look at you after birth.
>Escort a clumsy idiot throughout the forest.
>Your home village and your favorite pets get murdered or kidnapped because of this clueless fuck.
>He doesn't even help you when you're about to get soul-raped by an evil bird-Mengele.
>At the end he takes all the credit for saving the world while you did all the heavy-lifting throughout the adventure.
Much like the original film, the actual quality of the new series isn't of much concern to me. I'm just here for the Skeksis.
Her village dying was her own fault. She should have been a better shot against the Crystal Bat that spotted them.
>while you did all the heavy-lifting
I don't know if that was a 'Kira has wings' joke but I enjoyed it, intentional or not.
Get woke. Go broke
Do we know how long the episodes are gonna be?
I think they're an hour for each
Damn, seems a bit long with 10 episodes.
The original was already woke. Sheltered boy gets credit for humble girl's work.
I just rounded it up, the actual length is probably closer to 45 minutes or so for each. But yeah, that's still quite a lot.
A lot of Henson's work has always been "woke". If he was alive today you'd fucking hate him if you've missed this subtext he put into his work.
That guy looks good.
He wasn't in the original film, wasn't he?
Nope, introduced in JM Lee's books a few years ago that overlap with the show
I thought Post Malone did the score for Spiderverse, was I lied to?
Post Malone just made the song Sunflower for ITSV
So yeah I guess
So this is gonna be live action?
>Looks like reviews are very positive.
I'm shocked.
