Has the Joker actually ever committed any sex crimes like rape? He'll put people in humiliating situations that have sexual elements, but I always got the impression he was basically asexual. He doesn't care about sex, and while he may be (consciously or not) gay for Batman is more of a Platonic thing. Joker just doesn't seem like a character that cares about sex at all.

Batman has 'snapped' before on various villians. Crane was lucky in Heart of Hush, and Joker got saved by Gordon in Hush. The really messed up thing is that he was fine encouraging Clark of all people to kill Lex and look the other way.

The funny thing is that the Joker WAS supposed to die in his second ever appearance, exactly because Bill Finger felt that recurring villains would make Batman look incompetent. He was overruled by his editor, who had the ending changed to show Joker still alive.

Back in the Bronze Age Joker once said that Batman killing him would be the ultimate victory.
Someone once made a list of all the times, both canon and non-canon where he's killed and there actually were quite a few, as well as instances where henchmen were left in collateral damage situations that it would be extremely unlikely for them to have survived.
He also once prevented some one-shot villain who was stealing to keep himself alive (no, it wasn't Professor Radium or Clayface 3, I can't remember) from getting a life-saving antidote.
