Oh God, I reread Scott Pilgrim for the first time in 5 or 6 years two weeks ago, it blew so fucking much. Why was it so successful ?

direct appeal to nerd power fantasies

>Why was it so successful ?
Because everyone besides you had good taste.

That's an explanation
Visually it's pretty great but the writing is straight-up garbage

It was funny,
People need a good laugh

Proving my exact point

>It was funny
Why ? That's a genuine question, mind you. Most of the humor comes from shitty nerd culture references, i.e. "I saw a Metroid reference and I clapped !!", or Scott being retarded or a shitty person, or Wallace being gay, because that's his personality.

>Wallace being gay, because that's his personality.
Ok now I know you're full of shit.

You can't deny that the whole writing of this shitfest boils down to godawful self-insert fantasies, mixed with puke-inducing characters. Seriously, practically none of them go through any development, except Knives and maybe, MAYBE Scott, and only because the plot demands it. Ramona stays a self-absorbed hipster cunt the whole book through, gay characters have gay as their whole personality (with a side of snark for Wallace), and for the rest of them, there's absolutely none.

Sorry, gay and snarky, point taken. The rest of the characters are either one note jokes or serve as exasperated ex-cocksleeves for the drooling mongoloid called Scott Pilgrim, who's depicted as a loser but somehow got tons of poon.

t. Ramona normies

>Seriously, practically none of them go through any development
See did even read the fucking thing?
Like you're gonna tell me Scott and Ramona got no character development?

Based Tyrone with the good taste in women

Because being faithful to Ramona is the only good thing about Scott as a person.

imagine if this is as close as you could get to a white woman without terrifying her

>The rest of the characters are either one note jokes
All you're doing is telegraphing how you didn't read the fucking thing.

>you can't deny
Sure I can! It's not. That was easy.

because it was a fun read?
although i did start to roll my eyes towards the end as everyone was just going gay

I've read the whole fucking thing back to front 2 weeks ago. I've explicitly stated that Scott goes through a tiny, TINY bit of character development done in the most unnatural of manners with the whole Negascott clusterfuck, which signifies that now he accepts his mistakes and past fuckups instead of running away from them. That's objectively shit writing. For Ramona, it's a bit more natural. She goes from self-absorbed ironic hipster cunt, to self-absorbed ironic hipster cunt that trust Scotts now. Over the course of 6 damn manga-sized volumes. Wow, top-notch writing.

But that's wrong, I've read the whole fucking thing twice. The first time was 6 years ago, and I loved it. I re-read it 2 weeks ago, and I was just scared at how fucking shit it was. And yes, the characters are either one-note jokes or as flat as cardboard and utterly unmemorable. Okay, maybe Envy and Kim had something resembling the beginning of an inkling of personality, now that I think of it.

>fun
so you don't have an actual opinion you know it was bad and you don't care got it

Nah it's actually spot on. I'm sorry you never had a social life because it nails it perfectly.

So you're just a cantankerous little bitch
Got it.

oh wow more nonarguments what a shock coming from you

>direct appeal to nerd power fantasies
As a 30-year-old who read Scott Pilgrim in HS, I can tell you this is the correct answer.

If you don't agree, you're probably still in HS and just don't see it yet, but once you turn 25 and your brain stops being so fucking reptilian, it'll all make sense.

>Spot-on
I'm sorry, it's not spot-on, and I actually get most of the stuff tthe comic is about, like that guy in your band who's well in his 20s but dates high-schoolers ("Trust me dude, she's soooo mature for her age), the shitty bassist, the fetishism for obscure EPs by shit bands, and pretentious parties with bad music and too-cool-for-you cunts on 36 levels of post-modern irony and rimmed glasses. Except I wasn't some kind of Canadian hipster faggot who listens to pretentious indie shit and goes to parties to complain like a whiny cunt.

Aside from the drunken gag with Kim and Knives that was never brought up again and Stills, what're you talking about???

ITT: anons don’t get the point of the series

Reminder that Knives is best girl, but Scott and Ramona are trash people who deserve each other

>It's supposed to be a boring series about a POS character

ITR user pretends like there's something deep about scott pilgrim
