A movie needs to let its actors shine. Vulture's suit was amazing in Homecoming, but his best scene was when he was just Michael Keaton in the car.

Why couldn't they do these for other characters? Just look at Taskmaster or the Eternals. Where are the headgear and good looking outfits? All they have these days are those lame cloth that looks rubbery as hell. Thor 1 had better outfits that they have now.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it with a buddy of mine who is also into comics. I then went and saw it with a group who don't read the comics, watch cartoons, etc. and I asked what they thought about that scene.
I think ultimately it's needed for that audience because they all thought Beck was a legit wizard dude. So you need to explain 1) Beck is actually evil, 2) Beck is faking the whole thing, 3) Here's how. For people who already knew all of that, it dragged on. For people who didn't, you need all of that to make sense.
