what the FUCK, cassfags?
Also Cass thread
At this point the bar’s been set so low that the Ink book has to be at least decent by comparison. R-right?
>2019 Yea Forums can't even keep a Cassthead alive
Being a Cass fan is suffering, she has so much (wasted) potential.
Do you have all of these redesigns?
No proper media exposure in games or tv shows, sabotaged by DC editorial since early in her life.
She is in the place she belongs to. A convoluted story, a not appealing personality and DC sticking with the more marketable Batgirl. The definition of a flawed concept. Just look at her spiritual double at Marvel. Even a participation in a big ass fighting game or inheriting a big codename can save her from the mediocrity.
>games
Batman Dark Tomorrow for GameCube and XBox was supposed to be Arkham before Arkham, it had story based on the comics instead of the cartoon or movies and Tim Robin and Cass Batgirl.
But game was simply awful and quickly forgotten.
Well, at least with Cass in YJ it was a nice surprise. Imagine Stephfags who built up all their hopes and dreams based on Steph being a main character in YJ, only for her to have about the same amount of screentime as Cass.
>Arkham!Cass never, despite there being no other active Batgirl, and all the effort it would've taken was her silently being with Tim during his cameo (like in Dark Tomorrow)
Man, I miss this costume so fucking much
Yea Forums must be developing taste.
I wish we could go a single Cassthread without Steph being mentioned. Stephfags are literal cancer that bullied their self insert back into relevancy.
> no proper post-Rebirth DCU
Um.. so who is this then?
Wasn't that cancelled already
That's Duke's designated shoulder to cry on.
> Cass teased in Arkham Origins in the files of Shiva/David Cain.
> nothing in Arkham Knight
For now.
She's been featured prominently in Detective Comics since Rebirth started, what are you talking about?
Hey man I am a super Cassfag who has had a bad taste for Steph ever since her Batgirl run, I'm just laughing at how Stephfags thought YJ would cause a huge resurgence for the character and she was in one episode, and so was Cass, who probably had a cooler showing.
To be fair, once in a while there's a Cass thread that pops up and dies. Then there's one that lasts a long time.
>Tfw he crashed the the nanobot/skinsuit mind control story
Cass was great in Tynion 'Tec, hardcore Cassfags need to learn to let go of some stuff. Even the Trinity get major retools every now and then, we've had two decades of Cass of course some of the Canon around her is gonna change, I understand if it's a character you grew up with so she's real but don't turn into a NOT MUHist. Imagine what the original X-Men kids felt like when Giant Size came out, original Superman fans with Byrne, original LosH with L.E.G.I.O.N., etc.
not cancelled yet.
It was indefinitely delayed for like six months though, likely due to Snyder and Didio's "YEAR OF THE VILLAIN!!1!" stuff
I know. There's just one person who I know who is a Cass fan, but he refuses to even open up about the Rebirth era. He HATES Orphan with a passion and refuses to look at anything including this with any postive light.
And it sounds like Tynion wants to finish his Cass vs. Ras final Tec arc too.
Cass fags will still like her when she gets blacked by Duke?
Well, Orphan IS a stupid name.
The prophecy has foretold it.
Not unless AT&T finally cleans house. Sadly, if they are anything like Verizon and their stewardship of Tumblr, all they will do is make things worse.
Would you rather she ends up as a lesbo?
I got the plant one. pretty sure psu posted them on his twitter/patreon tho
they are cleaning house. But not in the way you might like.
They ordered a cut of 3% of staff last December. That resulted in seven people getting laid off at DC (VP of art direction, two collected editions VP's, and their secretarial staff).
Now they killed Mad Magazine, and fired the entire team behind that.
Warnermedia seem to be big in Japan right now, I still hope they get manga creators to do DC characters justice like Marvel sometimes do with the new Spider-Man manga.
And this one.
Hapas look so retarded
its so cute!
See DC constantly shooting themselves is painful, shit like this is why big two cape comics should die.
Will DiDIO ever get fired? Or ever retire it seems like we’ve had the same guard for over 2 decades and they have literally never gotten better it’s only going downhill
>Still reading DC or Marvel after all that
What happened to Cassandra wasn't the only reason to stop reading the big two, but man, the way DC kept doubling down on that nonsense and making things worse should have woken you up to the fact that corporate-owned comics are bleak story factories.
Go indie, user. You'll be happier.
Most true Cass fags have given up on DC forever. I don't know how ANYONE kept reading after 2011. Do you people LIKE getting angry every month?
Where?
It's not so much that Cass' character has changed, she's just being utilized in a very boring way as a support character.
Hapas?
I always liked the idea of there being multiple Robins and Batgirls. I don't see why there can only be one of each at any given time. Plus you can do a thing where Batman, the Batgirls, Robins and Nightwing can mix and match, have different little team-ups between stories.
So you'd have
>Bruce: Batman
>Dick: Nightwing (operates primarily in Bludhaven)
>Barbara: Oracle
>Tim: Robin 01
>Cassandra: Batgirl 01
>Stephanie: Batgirl 03 or Robin 02 depending on what she feels like that day. (When she's working Tim, she's Batgirl. When she's working with Cass, she's Robin.)
>Damian: Robin 02 (frequently goes to Bludhaven to help Nightwing out)
They could make it work without them feeling overpowered because, Bruce decided other places could use the Bat-family.
> Batman: Gotham
Nightwing: Bludhaven
> Barbara Gordon/Oracle: Burnside
> Cassandra Cain: Hub City (her meeting The Question would be interesting)
Not sure about the others.
Not me.
Maybe
Half-Asain
But as a team player. Not as the reduced role Steph has gotten.
>I don't see why there can only be one of each at any given time.
Because the BatFamily is a retarded idea. People want to read about Batman, the white guy. Not about some lame sidekick.
What about Dick?
I kind of want to read the sidekicks more
He had one of his best moments when he was removed from the bat-senpai and go to do superheroics in the Teen Titans. The moment he become batman-lite was the end for the character.
Then you are wrong.
Not from my point of view.
I only find Batman engaging when he has a sidekick to create a character dynamic with.
When it's just Batman and the crook of the week growling pretentiously all issue in-between exposition I'm better off reading fics off ao3
The dynamics from Gordon, Alfred or even Leslie are the only ones he need.
You really need to stop vaping bath water
Whelp this is now relevant to this thread.
I actually can't tell if this is Babs or Cass.
I believe Cass since Tarr said, in posting this, "Not my usual Batgirl."
DC nuking Cass Batgirl since 2006 (probably before) is one of the most baffling things I witnessed in the comic industry, and there is a lot of bad stuff in this industry.
Why character that was created by editorial mandate in 1999/2000 soured so fast with his own editorial?
Because is retarded and sell like shit. Also the real Batgirl had a better origin for cross-media.
Oh.
Batgirl (2000) lasted 73 issues, she was and still is popular even without DC support.
Lets remember the good times.
Would it have been a better move than Black Bat?
> Black Bat identity used for only six months.
> shit ton of fan art.
Yep that checks out.
> sell like shit.
> had a loyal 26,000+ fanbase
> never dropped off below median to cancelation numbers
> canceled because one Bat female comic was one too many.
> odds were against the character from editorial and shunned from the main books , still was popular.
> Babs has had four different directions, three different costumes, and none of them stick. Cass has one costume from beginning to end.
> only Burnside had Babs ever find the right footing, but it took too much from Steph's run.
I hate to say this but I think DC doesn't know what to do with Babs even if they want to promote her more.
Making her Flamebird or Nightinwing would be better than “orphan”.
She had no new fans, only the autistic fanbase from before and maybe some new ones that only like her for "woke" points.
Flamebird is too Bette. Nightwing? Well... *blows off dust on this old Yea Forums concept*
>Dickbats left Nightwing completely up for grabs
>she already has roots in Bludhaven
>could even continue the book's cop angle because Detective Cass is based
Captain Atom robbed us.
>fired some secretaries and the guy in charge of art when that was pretty much the only thing people didn't complain about
Guess this confirms ma bell is still a shitshow of a company.
Don’t get this “woke” stuff with Cass, she was diversity before diversity push, she is defeintely better than Batlesbianjew.
Does psu still post on Yea Forums? Haven't seen him around here since before Didio reset the universe.
Most of the recent attempts to expand the Batfamily have been pretty shit. Though I do think Harper could've been at least tolerable if they'd just kept her a civilian support character (a la Leslie or Julia Pennyworth) and didn't make her the centerpiece of Cass' entire life for some reason. And kept her cute.
Psu does. He did some art two Cass threads ago.
I'm surprised Tynion dumped Harper in his Tec run after the Steph subplot ended.
I really like her friendship with Clayface in Detective, shame he died
Gotham City is roughly the size of NYC, there's no way only a couple heroes could cover all that.
Tessen
It's a japanese weapon, basically a club that can unfold to look like a ceremonial fan.
She's used one before, don't have the image though.
Um user. You did read Tynion's final Tec issue?
The Batfamily post-Infinity Crisis (2006) became a mess with Batwoman, Damien, Misfit (does anyone remember?), Nightrunner and world of Batman, Batwing is African Guy and later he is black Iron Man from Gotham, Duke, Harper...
Also Nu52 keeping all Robins but nuking Steph and Cass just for spite.
I had hopes for Bryan Hill Outsiders but isn’t that good and is probably being sabotaged by DC editorial like everything Cass is involved.
Give it five or ten years and new writers with nostalgia for the character could end up doing things with her.
I honestly think that DC and Marvel won’t be publishing new comics in the next 5 to 10 years, maybe even less time left. People here that say they’re just IP farms for Disney and Warner are totally right.
Not all. Remember Tim got his Robin time revoked five months in. > Tynion at SDCC wanting a Cass centric story and says it in front of crowd with DiDio right next to him.
The brass balls of Tynion.
Are you Pete Tomasi?
Did the adoption ever get referenced again?
No.
No.
Great way to keep the war going, asshole anons.
There really shouldn't be any war and I hate that dc did this.
Agreed. But some anons are just assholes.
I thought based on some of the longer-running Batgirls threads last year there was peace between the various Batgirl factions of Yea Forums (with some occasional punching up towards Babs). Guess not.
Is not sabotaged. Hill is just a mediocre writer.
There might be. Or not. Remember there are trolls that wander Yea Forums. One obnoxious one in particular.
I want peace, as a Stephfag.
These doesn't sound like the normal troll.
I did say this one was different. I'd rather have peace between all Batgirls and know where the true hate should fall on.
Because batman editorials are nostalgiafags and didnt like that Barbara was not Batgirl even though she was much better as Oracle.
>zero lines
isn't she fucking mute
I want peace and the League of Batgirls. Lee Garbett is even pitching the damn thing to DC! Let him do it, Didio!
It'd feel so off without Babs as Oracle.
Everything does to me.
Seeing her standing around acting like a twenty year old in her shitty costumes always takes me out of a scene.
Maybe different districts then.
Hill kinda did a fun throwback to the good ole Oracle-in-Cass'-ear days. Even complete with Bruce undermining her so he can order Cass around instead. Classic.
Aren't Oracle and Cass supposed to be a brain and brawn duo?
In her early years until she learned English.
Throw in Steph and the three Batgirls are basically the Powerpuff Girls.
Well...
>tfw no comic about Cass as Nightwing and Steph as Flamebird
Let’s remember her original run.
Harrier. It is a bird name but badass and emphasizes her vertical take off capabilities.
I'm surprised how much DC refuses to let Cass even be in band's comic.
Cute.
:(
Is there any particular reason why the middle 20 or so issues of Cass' ongoing was never put into trades? Were they poorer selling issues or just DC being DC?
I really dislike this issue. I know I'm the only one, but it's really not a great look for anyone. A shame they wasted Noto's great art on it.
DC being DC.
I miss Cass and Steph's dynamic
I don't think I've read that issue but just from those it seems a bit shite. Not like knocking her out to protect her from herself rushing head first into dangerous mooks.
It's really frustrating to me as a Steph fan, because the issue immediately before it is Steph taking out a very dangerous Shiva disciple solo.
Can totally see why that'd be annoying, doesn't keep continuity well.
Well he was a cowardly groupie of Shiva. Not really taught by her. Also Cass didn't realize it was a sparring match.
Well, it's a good thing Noto did another story with Cass too.
I miss the daughter/father dynamic that Cass and Bruce had at some moments. Unfortunately they had to start pushing it as if they were a possible couple. I really appreciate seeing good father/daughter dynamics and I think most art mediums are missing it.
There could be many reasons. One of which could be that Dylan Horrocks took a hard stand against War Games by leaving the ongoing and DC all together.
Ironically, the only issues republished from that run have been the War Games tie-ins and #45 which got republished in Batgirl collection as one of the Cass spotlight issues.
They?
I've seen people be really down on this scene, and I get why, but I've seen people blame Cass for being abusive toward Steph when I don't think she really knows any better. This is a girl that was horrible abused herself, has no concept of social norms, and thinks that the solution to any problem is "punch it." She genuinely thinks she's helping Steph and keeping her out of harm's way. If anyone's at fault, it's Babs for not explaining to Cass that it's not okay to punch your friends, even if you're trying to protect them.
DC I guess, I can't remember if it was a specific writer or not.
I'm not saying it's abusive - just disrespectful. And Cass fans generally think it's cute, and I don't enjoy that.
Steph deserves to be disrespected desu
Yeah, it's almost as disrespectful as that time Steph went over the history of the Batfamily and didn't mention Cass at all.
go jump in lake. Every fucking time.
i am upset because cass fans like a scene where cass is mean to steph, but how dare you criticize a scene that steph fans love where steph forgets cass
Because it's Cass being reactionary. She knows the stories of Steph from Babs, Tim, and Bruce. She knows how green Steph was during that time period.
Steph grew into being a capable vigilante. That was her story arc.
That was probably editors from on high giving the order not to include her. Note that Cass gets a mention in the first five issues and she's dropped completely until the one-shot, and then a cameo in the final issue.
Given the bullshit, I think that's why Nguyen loved both characters more. Why he spites the higher ups by still including both of them any chance he gets.
The fact an editor was mandated by another higher up to look for any random Cass/Steph appearances just shows how petty certain executives were at the time with the two.
I'm curious to see the image. Which comic?
>That was probably editors from on high giving the order not to include her.
It may have been some of that, but I think it's also because BQM just didn't care about the character, and so he didn't consider her important enough to include.
Thanks. In terms of context: I like to think Steph didn't forget the punches.
Oh, he did why he revisited and retconned the whole idea of Cass dropping the Batgirl identity to begin with.
If the New 52 didn't happen, with Cass being reintroduced as Black Bat, and given Gates of Gotham #5, he wanted her to show up more in his comic. Miller stated if the series had gone on Cass would have appeared more in the comic. The Blackhawks/Skeets/Batgirls crossover was just the opening tease to that.
And remember he too got the spiteful end of DiDio and the top brass who wanted Babs as Batgirl, and Babs alone during the start of the New 52.
I think Morrison had to pull just about every inch of cloat he had for Steph's final pre-New 52 appearance given originally the artist had to draw TWO versions of the comic.
One with Steph as Batgirl, the other Steph as Spoiler.
I'd love to believe BQM, but everything he did with Cass was pure garbage, even if it was editorially mandated. And I've never seen him talk about Cass in any way other than to say "Oh yeah, if the book had continued, I totally would have used her! Honest! Really!!!"
Anyway, at least the girls got to stand around and do nothing at the end of the latest YJ season.
BQM was given an impossible situation when he was handed the comic. He had to get rid of Cass, deal with the fallout of Babs and the end of BoP, and deal with Steph's fallout in the Robin comics.
Remember, Babs was supposed to come back as Batgirl during Battle for the Cowl (as BoP and Nightwing primed her in returning to the role at the end of both issues), before sanier heads previaled.
Miller, like Beechen before him, was given a job. He did the job as best he could to appease the tyrantical heads of DC.
Just that he did a better job with Steph for DC, then Beechen did for Cass. The downfall of Cass was always in the cards sadly, no matter how much goodwill Beechen tried to do with Vol. 2. DiDio had made up his mind by November to dump Cass as Batgirl. Nothing was going to derail that, and he'd use the excuse of Vol. 2 "not selling" to fully take her out of the role.
Eh, it is what it is at this point.
I used to just always cringe when people would talk about how great a Batgirls book by BQM would be, when he never showed any kind of interest in or understanding of Cass.
He showed a better understanding than the writer we got for Batgirl Convergence.
Oh God, don't even talk about that. One of my biggest disappointments of all time. Leonardi's art looks like it was done in about half an hour, and Cass threatened to eat Steph's pet hamster.
The only thing I liked was Cass and Steph living together and basically being like an old married couple.
Agreed, not to mention the colors were all over the place in the comic as well. You could tell the comic was approved at the last minute.
Still when making lemons, one can still make some lemonade with it.
Wasn't food scarce, so they raised hamsters to be meat?
Yeah, but it portrayed Cass as cold, which is a common mischaracterization when she's supposed to be compassionate toward everything.
>chatty Cass
NO.
It's not that chatty, and it's from a period when she was actively trying to talk more.
If she did eat it, would she be crying throughout the eating?
I loved the first half of Gabrych Cass. It was SOOOO good.
Cass in Bludhaven was good stuff. I liked Slade being her enemy better than Dick's.
What about Ravager?
Ravager is good as a rival/reluctant ally.
So, like Zuko?
Weird. It kept freezing my post at 100% before this finally show sup.
> you will never read a story of Rose, Steph, Emi, Cass, and Damian banding together to take out their evil parents.
She was a legacy character written to entertain in a universe ruled by the law of entropy.
Sorry guys, but the minute you signed up for mortality like the rest of us you agreed that one day everything you enjoy or think is cool or love Will one day be forgotten or ignored or trod on until it’s not worth loving anymore at all.
Just rip the fucking bandaid off and let the injury heal already, it has literally been over a decade.
But with 2000% less MUH HONOR
but about the same % of daddy issues and eye trauma
So, still amoral even as a "good guy"?
Harley?
Has she said patootie before?
Probably?
Harley/Cass teamup when?
The issue would end with Harley asking Cass if she wants to hear a knock-knock joke. Then Cass knocks her out.
> Cass: "Knock."
Retard.
Any name would be better than Orphan.
Best candidate for Cass' arch-nemesis?
Didio.
Probably SOON. Hell, she'll probably replace Babs as Cass's mentor.
DiDio. Man's tried for all these years to derail the character.
her english language skills are suffering because she's been hanging out with the blacks too much
Fair enough. Has there been a fan comic where she meets him?
Cass Toons.
Thanks.
Has Cass ever cussed?
I honestly don't think she has.
She'll be doing a lot of that in the movie though, won't she?
Supposedly.
>If anyone's at fault, it's Babs for not explaining to Cass that it's not okay to punch your friends
She has to get her joy from somewhere.
Tiny Titans Cass is probably the best version of the character of all time.
A lot of personality despite being non-verbal?
All hail Tiny Cass.
He posts here to hide from self imposed Twitter politics.
You could probably get some entertaining stories out of Harley mentoring her while Cass plays as her conscience. Especially since Cass could totally take her in a fight, so Harm would have to get sneaky.
That and she's consistently characterized unlike Cass who tends to be a different person when outside of a handful of books.
I will also never get over how she is always making her scary pose.
It would be a fascinating mix.
Different as in too talkative?
Mostly anytime Art or Franco draw Cass during their speed commissions they label her as "SCARY Batgirl".
>SCARY Batgirl
And also coincidentally the best one.
A scenario with Harley choosing between Joker or Cass might be interesting.
Mentoring her in what, you think? Harley’s not really an authority on combat or vigilantism.
Acrobatics?
Pshychology?
>Cass’ abilities to read people physically combined with Harley’s abilities to read people mentally
Unsettling.
Nobody at DC or any of its affiliates knows how to write Cass without completely exaggerating or misinterpreting something about her character, and she gets sidelined by the more well known batfamily members, even though she was a pretty fucking big deal when she first came out. The longer this goes on for, the less new writers are familiar with her, and the more they fuck her up or ignore her entirely.
Enjoying anything from DC, as a rule, necessitates you collecting the best written pieces of media around a set of characters and constructing your personal canon far from the reach of the lobotomy patients that get comic writing jobs. Cass to me will always be the goodhearted adopted daughter of Batman who has so much inside to make her a villain, but always has a genuine, pure desire to make the world a better place and see someone smile. DC can't take them from. Not even Bendis.
honestly net time Dc kills Bruce I think out of all of the bat family Cass should be Batman not orphan or blackbat or whatever the fuck Batman she really embodies Bruce's mission
Dick works best as Batman
We've already seen that. I know Dickfags shit bricks whenever anyone suggests anyone other than Dick being Batman, but give someone else a chance.
It be a curious thing to behold, and be divise to the time Jane became Thor. But-- less of an asspull. Not to mention to see Cass struggle out of her element with villains like Riddler or Joker.
Cass as Nightwing could also work, Steph is Flamebird.
>Not even Bendis.
When Bendis get in the main Batman title; he will blacked her with one of his OC. Then turn him in another nu-X-23.
Would she get a new Robin, or go the ex-assassin Dynamic Duo route?
Cass is the most uniteresting character to be Batman. Even more bland and boring that Dick.
Cass would be more interesting than any of the Robins just because she'd have to actually learn to do detective work and not just punch everything.
Well, he talked to Alfred.
I like to think it went like this.
> "Avenge them, Bruce. Avenge them."
Unless Bruce just doesn't listen to him.
I’m pretty sure was DC that blocked Cass in appearing in Arkham Knight.
Let's hope he just ignores her.
Is Benis really getting the Batbooks?
Look up Batman Universe.
XXX was great in Tynion Tec.
Tynion is an awful writer, batfags have low standards.
How so?
Arkham Knight almost every member of the Batfamily was playable including Azrael, Cass was hinted in Origins with Lady Shiva and David Cain files, she would have fitted like a glove in the Arkhamverse but Didio blocked her,
Best thing he's written?
bump
How we know DiDio has that power?
He didn't, the developers simply didn't wanted to add her and end of the story.
Here's your Cassandra, bros
