Yeah the Japs were shit in WWII for a variety of reasons.
1. They went into a form of ultra-nationalism. If you weren't with them and their plans in the military, you were against them and deserved to get fuck. This happened because the military began to take over the actions of the government and lead to literal assassinations and beatings of civilian officials who knew what they were doing.
2. The Japanese constitution calls on a strong Emperor to reign the military in. The Supreme War Council could act independently of the civilian government and answered only to the Emperor.
3. The Japanese was really fucking drunk on victory from Russo-Jap War despite being on the brink of collapse (economically) and the US/Brits saving them. They were also drunk on capturing things from the Germans during WWI and were ass hurt Western Powers wouldn't acknowledge them.
4. The military/government in Tokyo had no control over the actions of its troops stationed in Korea/China/and Islands. The security forces (Kwantung Army) orchestrated the invasion of China and Tokyo had to go along with it. The Army/Navy also got into a pissing contests, acted independently. The Army built its own Navy and the Navy's submarine forces acted as their own branch..
5. Japan never practiced what it preached and encouraged its soldier to put civilians/enemies populace in line. Resulting in atrocities in Nanking and Manilla and PoW treatments and none of the soldiers really got punished.

Japan was a mess from its central government to the operation of its military. Doesn't help that many of the older officers (General to Colonels) didn't want to adapt to new ways of warfare/kept up dumb traditions. One punishment at the naval academy is that you stand under the hot sun for hours while holding two pales of water instead of doing something productive. NCOs would also be able to beat you to teach you a lesson with little accuse.

China was also not a unified force, but eventually the Japs got bogged down and were doing nothing except sending bodies. Yeah no, bongs were doing carrier launched air strikes during WW1 and Pearl Harbor was just a copy of Raid on Taranto. Plus the real reason why the nip strike on PH was even slightly successful has mostly do with the fact that USN failed to fortify it after it became clear that it was vulnerable to carrier strikes after King successfully simulated one against it in 1938.

To be fair. The Western Front sucked ass because warfare came to a stand still with trenches, so constant shelling and being torn apart by sniper/machine gun fire sucked ass.

Compare it to the Eastern Front where it was massive mobile battles with horse charges, bi-planes, and vehicles almost like WWII. If you were stuck in one place with no where to go up to get shot, or fall into a giant ass mud hole, or sit there and get bombarded by gas and artillery you would get mind broken like a girl in a doujin too.

Nah, it is battle line was pretty weak, submarine doctrine laughably bad, merchant marine protection capacity basically non-existent, lacking in supply capacity, technologically backwards in several key areas, weak in amphibious operations, and poorly led. Basically only its destroyer and carrier forces were good with everything else being pretty shit.

it depends on how you veiw "strongest"
in terms of equipment, then the IJN had the upper hand at the start of the war, but lost it at midway. although in quality, the USN had them completely outclassed. the IJN was a newcomer to naval combat as it was at the time, and the command constantly undercut eachother for attention. then the US surpassed them in tonnage and quality, and it was over. this is exemplified at midway when the IJN lost almost all of their carriers in a single battle, leaving them with outdated battleships as their only flagships.

The Japanese were contending against a tertiary fleet composed of primarily commonwealth vessels. The overwhelming majority of Britain's ships were dedicated to the Home Fleet and Atlantic. "Best Navy" isn't a term that changes between fights, it's a question of composition, leadership, industrial capacity, supply, etc. The Japs would have found themselves at 3rd place tops even at their peak.

The only easy-ish way I'm aware of to do it on Instagram is to go to each post's particular page (can't be from the main gallery), inspect element, and look through everything with "jpg" in it. Usually only like 5-8, so it's not a long search. Hover over each one to find the image you want, copy that url, the entire mess of it, paste it in your address bar, and you get pretty much the largest version the site has to offer.

I'm sure that there's some addon, script or something that simplifies the process to just right click->save, but I'm somehow too lazy to look for and get that, but not too lazy to go through the other mess of trouble. I guess I don't use Instagram enough to care.

The way you put this was kind of dumb but there's some truth to it.
Mostly that the way the first World War is remembered is tinted by the disillusion of post-war writers so a kind of gloom hangs over the whole thing, its most miserable aspects dominate its memory. That's not to say those miserable aspects weren't real. They were. It absolutely was traumatic, miserable, nightmarish for many involved, but unlike its bloodier encore, the misery occupies almost the total focus of the conflict making it seem somehow worse or uniformly terrible. The tip is to use some circles and the head for getting the rough proportions to be the same and thrn using other basic shapes for limbs and such. Like for the forearm for example you can use a triangle as a base, etc.

And then you just have to draw and toy around with it a bit until it all kinda fits. Definitely easier on digital if you have a tablet, where you can just move things around and rotate them to correct things you might see later during the drawing.
