So how long until Marvel stops printing Spider Man comics like they did with X-Men after losing them to Fox?
So how long until Marvel stops printing Spider Man comics like they did with X-Men after losing them to Fox?
Marvel will never stop printing Spider-Man Comics, he's their flagship Character.
I’m pretty sure they can still print comics of that character since there’s a few things ‘Spider-Man’ that they might own.
Never. ASM is their best selling title. Marvel Comics will fold completely before they stop printing that. The only thing you may see is a scale back on some of the smaller titles.
You're thinking of Fantastic Four.
X-Men they tried to replace with the Inhumans.
And they answer is never, to either option.
Spider-Man is their most popular character.
Also, they own the 94 cartoon & that version of the Spider-Man logo.
The film rights are the only thing they don't own. Spidey still brings in billions in merchandising.
Avengers events > Amazing Spider-Man
X-Men was really popular too, but then Marvel lost the rights to Fox, they only started making new X-Men comics after Disney bought Fox, since they lost Spider Man to Sony I wouldn't be surprised if they quietly downscale Spider Man.
yeah that worked so well with the last one, amazing regularly ends up in the top 5 top selling in its week. This is our chance to get rid of miles and gwen though
Disney still has the animation and toy rights.
The difference between the two is that with X-Men and F4 Fox got a cut of the movie merchandise and the box office. In the Spider-Man movies' case, Disney gets all of the movie merchandise money and a small percentage of the box office.
Are you really under the impression that they *stopped making* X-Men comics during the Fox period?
>Disney still has the animation and toy rights.
Not Animated Film rights.
Maybe he meant stopped making good X-Men comics during that time
>stop printing one of their most fan loved characters
>>stop printing their most fan loved characters
FTFY
> people who think Marvel still cares about selling comics
It's never gonna happen. Spider-Man is the most iconic and popular marvel character by far.
I dunno they ended the FF out right and were tanking the x-men for years with terrible events and characterization. I can't see them ending amazing but i could see them ratcheting back to it being the only book
Since they hold the merchandise rights, they basically have to stick with him or they are flushing money away
Wasn't Morrisons run during Taht period?
post disney acquisition
Peter parker is retired indefinitely and miles morales becomes the only spiderman hahaha
It all depends on Perlmutter, I know he didn't want FF comics due to Marvel not owning their rights and X Men got pushed away in favor of the inhumans for the very same reason and because Perlmutter wanted Inhumans in the MCU
I mean Marvel doesn't even own Spider Man
That's going to be less funny when it actually happens, Marvel is hellbent on replacing their legacy characters with "diverse" ones, they have even been shilling Captain Marvel.
They won't, they still make more money off Spider-Man Merch than Sony makes off Spider-Man movies. Disney probably made more money off my copy of the game and the Spider-Man PS4 Pro I bought than Sony.
Wait are you one of those guys who thinks Miles is somehow not under the Spider-man brand because he was made after they sold the rights?
it's going to happen because Disney still owns Jessica Drew.
what do mean funny? i'm going to petition that they make spiderman more overtly ethnic, not some whitewashed prep school kid, and transexual, 'spider-(wo)man'
See
Dumbasses, if they kill/retire Peter permanently and create a new character, THEN THEY'VE GIVEN A NEW CHARACTER FOR SONY TO USE.
>There are people retarded enough to actually believe that will happen
Doesn't matter, The Mouse is going to own every media company in the future.
> sony makes a movie about an ethnic, transexual spiderman ... that becomes venom
this is getting better and better
Dan Slott had a very long run from the time the MCU starred until they cut a deal with Sony. Definitely a coincidence
If Disney doesn't offer Sony a great deal they're retarded. Both parties benefit from Spidey in the mcu from money to fan good will. I will honestly be fucking baffled if they don't.
They didn’t “lose” the rights, they sold them.
No they didn't you fucking moron
Not only did they never stop making X-men comics the x-men had the second highest amount of books the entire time. How are xfags this delusional? Even if you complain about the xbooks for still shit a year after marvel got the rights back. Also for all the complaints about the x-men being villainized during AvX and IvX they are arguably worst now in House of X where they are trying to overtake humanity.
Of course they CAN, but as with X-Men and the Fantastic 4, they didn't want to because it would give spotlight to any films that come out about those properties that they aren't getting paid for.
Their X-Men jealousy went to omega levels when they pushed the Inhumans as the next big "Team" full of people with varied powers that come from the same source. Except everyone hates them and even the 2-3 characters they do like are in spite of them being Inhumans, they would rather they simply reinvent Black Bolt and Kamala into other origins.
>brought back old man logan right before the logan movie
>did an apocalypse even when the apocalypse movie came
>they didn't want to because it would give spotlight to any films that come out
sure
Hopefully immediately. Fuck sony.
They said the same thing about the X-Men.
And last I checked they didn't stop printing X-Men comics.
They still consistently had had like 4 or 5 books titled Something X-Men along with solo series and miniseries.
Anyone else realized how against their fans marvel/Disney is? More recently they pushed spiderman out of the MCU. But thinking back, holy shit they actually put series on ice just because they wanted to damage the brand for another company. How do people not call this out?
>More recently they pushed spiderman out of the MCU.
That was Sony fucktard
I doubt they will, asm is always in the top sellers, and the franchise still makes mad revenue thru the shitty disney xd cartoon, toys, the videogame and spiderverse, honestly i'm happy that spiderverse could become the mainline spidey movie franchise instead of iron boy, as long as they don't make an awful live action movie like the garfield ones it'll be allright
Literally never.
They didn't stop printing X-Men, they just tried to give them shitty arcs with mutants either getting killed or antagonizing poor inhumans.
Spider-Man is their flagship character. Spider-Man toys rake in my money than they know what to spend it on.
>iron boy
Ok you're a faggot no need to telegraph it.
>Sony has owned Spider-Man for decades
>Disney only happened like 4 years ago
>He still had comics in that time
Are all people this retarded?
You know how much money the Gamerverse is making Disney?
If disney just kept the same deal both parties agreed to before to allow spider into the MCU in the first place, none of this would have happened and you wouldn't be fuming right now.
Spiderman missing in next Marvel vs Capcom game.
X
Doubt
No it's Sony who pulled out instead of playing ball they're the problem.
Aight junior. Aight.
Alright faggot alright.
You realize that they didn't control Spider-Man at the same time they didn't control X-Men, and still printed Spider-Man comics. And X-Men comics.
Also that was an Ike Perlmutter thing and at this point he's probably happy Marvel Studios got screwed.
Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment are two separate companies.
>If disney just kept the same deal both parties agreed to before to allow spider into the MCU in the first place
I'm pretty sure Sony would have still pulled out since they want more control over Spider-man. There's also the issue that the main benefit for Marvel was making Spider appear 3 big crossover movies without paying anything, but there are none in the near future.
So Sony has no intention of accepting deal even if it's a good one?
Considering sony were willing to go from 5% to 25% and still got turned down, I doubt that.
I want dumbasses who think film and comics are the same company off this board. They’re not going to stop printing Spider-Man for fuck sake
Oh yeah, I did forget that. Then yeah, this is 100% Disney's fault.
Literally nothing will happen, except no more Spider-Man in the MCU.
Marvel never stopped printing X-Men comics you fucking turbo casual, in fact, while Disney and Fox were still battling it out X-Men had more comics than any other comic franchise at the time, including Avengers and Spider-Man.
Sony has owned the film rights since the 90's. You know how many games, comics, merch, etc. we're directly influenced from the Raimiverse?
Anyone else think they're for sure going to make a deal? They're still negotiating.
Until all the soibois start directing their anger in the right place, no.
reminder that more mutants died after they got the rights than before.
B-but user they went from 8 books to 5 and weren't the focus of those shitty summer events that nobody wants to be in. Can't you see how oppressed the xfags are?
Guess what? Muties dying make up like 80% of X-Men stories, and 90% of X-Men centered events are shit that people don’t want to read or be involved in. What were the big X-Stories recently?
AvX
Black Vortex
Power of Atom
Apocalypse (again)
IvX
Only now are X-Men some what readable, and even then I can’t find myself pulling them or giving any kind of a shit about them, the last X-Books I enjoyed were Spider-Man and X-Men (made before the Sony and Fox deals were a thing with Disney) and What If: Magik Sorcerer Supreme
We'll see if Morbius and Venom 2 flops.
Disney isn't in any rush to get him back considering there doesn't look to be anything that will feature lots of crossover characters like an Avengers movie.
Yea Forums is braindead user, you should know this by now
Yeah i'm sure they miss the pennies Miles' cinematic debut brought in
Marvel and by extension Disney get way more money from Spider-Man than they ever did from either X-Men and Fantastic Four, ffs, Spidey's even still getting a shit ride at California Adventure.
But doesn't Spider-man on his own make more money in merch than every comic book character combined? Why would they stop that money train? The Fantastic Four didn't bring them in money at all.
Captain America, Human torch, Angel and Namor are flagship charecters. Flagship means they started it. Spiderman came a little ways after. But yes marvel won't end Spidy comics. He's to big and they don't share Salas with Sony on comics. Instead they will tell different stories for Peter, Miles and Gwen.
>bottom 5 box office spider-man movie
Please. Stop
Sony has had the Spidey film rights for 20 fucking years. Never at any point did they stop printing Spidey comics. Use your head for once.
Soo, it's going to be another ten years of terrible Spiderman movies then...time to save me money.
That is not what flagship means user
Which just begs the question of how they went bankrupt. How bad at accounting do you have to be?
Post your new MCU replacement for spider-man
But this gives Marvel / Disney a chance to focus on Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom and GOOD X-Men films.
>But only if they steer clear of S.J.W nonsense
Human torch, ironlad, hawkeye’s daughter, Tony’s daughter, antman’s daughter. Basically anyone young and energetic.
You autists honestly think they are going by the comics? It’s called the the MCU not Marvel-direct-translation-of-the-comics-universe. Get it through your head, the comics DON’T matter.
Look at Logan. Was it a literal take on oldman? No. Was x23 comic-accurate? No. Yet they successfully transitioned wolverine away from Jackman to a little girl. Hell, Laura might be THE Wolverine in the MCU when xmen finally debut.
The comics DON’T matter.
there’s only 8 to choose from, user. unadjusted, spider-man 2 is at the bottom 5 too
>he's their flagship Character
and they hate that
>The comics DON’T matter.
Tell that to Ms Marvel fans. They still think Kamala is going to be Inhuman
Into the Spiderverse counts as a feature film, Disney as the animated TV rights.
You have no context for how big X-Men was, it was like how DC favors Batman now but on steroids
They won’t, but they WILL put more emphasis on Miles, Gwen and Ham. Probably
marvel literally killed wolverine and brought out 'old man logan' to satisfy long time fans.
they ordered that no new characters be created for xmen and the books were reduced to only a few titles in contrast to how many there were in the early 2000's
and yet, some how, X-Men STILL had more ongoing comics at once than any other comic franchise, including Spider-Man and The Avengers. Weird.
Ike: Inhumans would have made much more than Spider Man. Where are my paperclips?
Give it a year
No new X Men characters sounds like grade A bullshit
To be honest that sounds fine, considering how many mutants there are with amazing ground work already laid just looking to be used
It also didn’t stop Bendis from making any new mutants during his time on X-Men
did peter become a school shooter in this show?
>t. retarded-know-it-all
>How are xfags this delusional?
it's because none of it was readable
And the X-men editors attempting to one-up the Spider-man editors is what drove Marvel into the fucking ground in the 90s. Giving them such a big push back then was a mistake
Fantastic Four was their first modern title. It'll never be canceled because Fox makes the movies.
I thought Marvel Comics was owed by Disney now
God shut the fuck up
Both of the Big 2 should have a rule against creating a new characters for a book if that series already has an existing character that fills the same role.
Not long apparently. They have X-Men back now, which makes them a fuckton, and they know they can ride high off of Tony, Cap, and Thor now.
>marvel literally killed wolverine and brought out 'old man logan' to satisfy long time fans.
This wasn't Ike wanting to destroy the X-Men, this was Alonso's Marvel trying to replace all the old white male heroes, and making X-23 the new Wolverine, but keeping Old Man Logan around because it was one time he remembered making money was more important than ideology.
>and the books were reduced to only a few titles in contrast to how many there were in the early 2000's
Because they weren't selling as well as they sold in the 1980s, 1990s or early 2000s. This downsizing of the X-Men franchise was justifiable and about 10 years overdue.
Yes, it was still 5 books per month. Any other fans would be satisfied with that. Instead they react like Ike actually cancelled the X-Men and put them all in limbo for years. That actually happened to the FF, and their fans didn't complain anywhere near as much.
>it's because none of it was readable
>Marvel
>The 2010s
>Alonso's Marvel
Why would you expect it to be readable?
