I like what they've done so far but if the Darkwing story goes forward, I don't want the entire Fearome Four's origins to be tied into the old tv show. That's kind of a monolith.

I like the idea of a new Fearsome Four being pre-established supervillains with similar-ish powers, and Negaduck then offering them a place in his gang if they take up the identities of these old characters. None of them watched it but they role with it.
Like Drake they also go by Reginald, Bud Flood, Elmo Sputtersparks...and I don't think Quackerjack ever had a civilian name.

I'd like it if they also had our originals personalities, but that one clip of DT's old show had Megavolt doing his bulb liberation thing so I don't know how that'd work.

Modern day bulshit has killed male friendships. Obviously two, or three because you sometimes see it in 3cabs too, guys who get along well must be faggots. The real explanation for affection, trust, and camraderie that leads to social bonding and a platonic dynamic is obviously tied to sexual orientation.

I can't say I'm a fan.
The old Fearsome Five were all stand alone villains who came together out of both fear of Negaduck and greed that he was gonna share loot with them.

Having them be 4 randos that get their identities because Negaduck recruits them and tells them to start using those names doesn't really work for me, to be honest.

I would prefer if they start from scratch, if these characters show up, give them new origins, designs and personas, and only have Negaduck approach them after they've tangled with Darkwing once or twice. Kinda like how Spectacular Spider-Man handled the Sinister Six.

Also, and this is just a personal preference thing, I honestly kinda hope they DON'T bring back Megavolt, Quackerjack or Liquidator...Those three were already established in universe as being part of the Darkwing Duck tv series. If they show up now, it will be a situation of Darkwing's foes all being tied to the Jim Starling show in someway, and that's kinda boring to me.
I would be ok with expies, though. Like, maybe some kind of elemental guy who is less OP then Liquidator so as to be easier to write, or a pastiche of modern Joker or Harley Quinn to be the clown stand in. Some fresh characters might be nice.

What if they're villains who had their own gimmicks but Negaduck was so hellbent on recreating the show he forced them to use the old costumes, and over time they started modifying their costumes to suit their own style, thus becoming a sort of hybrid between old and new

That pic isn't a bad idea. The name especially. Quackerjoke sounds close enough to the original that you know who he's a stand in for, but you also immediately get that he's his own thing by not just using the old name.

Exactly. He's threatening, but still gets his ass kicked and hauled off to prison at the end of each caper. There's one episode of Darkwing that ends with Negaduck dressed in a diaper getting thrown in a jail cell and beaten to a pulp by angry criminals while he whimpers like a coward.

He was hardly the fucking Antichrist that fans tend to misremember him as. Probably his most badass episode was the one that introduced the Negaverse and ended with him getting sucked into the oblivion between dimensions while swearing he'll find a way to come back and get even with Darkwing some day (that episode REALLY should have been the series finale).

This is exactly what’s got me wondering about this. I would not be surprised at all if it’s endgame but I really do think we’re getting a DWD spinoff at some point...unless they reboot it AGAIN between the end of DT17 and the new series.

Another thing that makes me wonder is the fact that in the episode where Launchpad befriends Beakley, he wrote himself in as “Darkwing’s best friend and pilot” in his fanscript for a continuation of the show.

I do think that’s going to foreshadow his future. He’ll be Darkwing’s best friend. But I could see the end of DuckTales revealing that he’s in love with Drake, but he knows DW will never feel the same way. So he’s happy to settle for best friend so long as he can be by Drake’s side. Thus, becoming DW’s roommate and helping him raise Gosalyn.

No, Launchpad definitely lived with Darkwing and Gosalyn. I even vaguely remember some comments that Binky and Herb Muddlefoot (their neighbors) just assumed they were a gay couple with an adopted daughter before Drake had Morgana over to dinner with them and just never said anything, but I don't even remember if that was someone who worked on the show or a fandom common fanfiction joke.
I don't really mind it. I really think in the original they were just platonic friends and roommates though, like Batman and Robin everything aside were originally just friends but also family in a sense. Launchpad was jealous as hell of Morgana, which you could play with. I guess I wouldn't care if that happened one way or the other, especially if they never get to Morgana it would make no difference, and she could be gay with Della or some shit for all I care instead. I feel like it doesn't really matter to the story. Yes, LP and DW were shipped a lot back in the day, blah blah. Story and characters don't really change.
