How come inclusivity in western cartoons is seen as "forced diversity" but nobody bats an eye when an anime they like has a diverse cast?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 213K)

Didn’t the creator disappear?

Because the anime doesn't expect pats on the back for it.

Because everyone knows japs are xenophobic and only include foreigners because of racial fetishism or to make fun of them.

Nobody bats an eye at diversity when it doesn't seem awkward. Nobody cares that Virgil Hawkins is black, or that Cybersix stars a woman. They care about "forced diversity" because it's tokenism pretending to not be tokenism.

And people do give anime shit for it, but in a different manner since the authors tend to include tokens for flair instead of self righteousness. One ot the most consistent complaints about Tenjou Tenge was Bob Utsunomiya. Not because he's forced, but because he gets screwed despite being one of the best characters. The half-Japanese cliche is constantly mocked because everyone knows the author/publisher is too cowardly to make the important characters foreign. Readers often bitch about how shonen manga refuse to give girls good fights.

The problem isn't diversity, it's shitty diversity added for self-congratulation.

Because western cartoons just do it for woke points.
Anime does it so we can have more waifus/husbandos to drool over.

>people gave their money to Crunchyroll for this

Whatever happened to this shitfest?

Attached: 1564099879165.jpg (499x326, 127K)

This, the Japanese usually do it tastefully.

What's the deal with the recent increase of this bland bait threads? I mean, I know Yea Forums moderation is garbo, but come on.

Still coming out, just quietly, like Thundercats.
Feel bad for the creator, though. It's not a bad idea, CR was just the worst possible platform. Not gonna bother due to Kate Leth's involvement, but I wish everyone else the best going forward, poor bastards.

>Still coming out,
nigga that show has been canned

>He doesn't know
Raye is still uploading content about the production of HGS in his twitter account every couple of days.

Nah, it's coming. They promoted it not even a month ago.

Netflix is shifting away from western content and planning to switch to imported/ half produced anime content.
It's time for Disney and WB shills to talk shit about anime...more than usual, at least.

/thread

No one complained about "forced diversity" in the High Guardian Spice cast. They didn't even talk about the characters, it was just bragging how this is anime made by WOMEN, as if there has never been such show before.

If that's true that's sad since Netflix was the only network who took risks in greenlitting animated project that won't never have a chance in other networks. I'm looking forward for Klaus and that pinoccio stop motion movie. And the way japan produces animation is way unfair compared with the rest of the world.

I wonder if China would surpass them in terms of production since china population and production model are way more unfair compared with them.

>It's not a bad idea, CR was just the worst possible platform
Nobody would have batted an eye at this if it was CN or Netflix toon.

SPBP

There haven’t been many (or any?), western cartoons with an all women writer’s room, that’s why it’s a big deal. Every other writer’s room is all men

She-Ra.

Do we even know the character names yet?

Because you visit Yea Forums for discussing cartoons and mostly absorb anime from other places.

I always found it weird when the half-Japs characters have blonde hair and blues eyes like if it was possible in real life.

That makes two!

>Nobody would have batted an eye at this if it was CN or Netflix toon.
People would complain about THE FALL OF WESTERN ANIMATION like they do when minions existed.

What about dangers and eggs? I know the creator is trans.

Because the people making them are fat feminists and trannies.
The jap shows are made by salarymen

Attached: 372.jpg (1989x1353, 393K)

My problem isn't that CR will show it or be involved in the production somehow. It's that CR ostensibly tossed money at something nobody wants.
If they had that much money to spare, they could have funded a 26 episode MD Geist remake and both Yea Forums and Yea Forums would have welcomed it.

>Netflix is shifting away from western content and planning to switch to imported/ half produced anime content.
>no sauce

I'm just pointing to one in the last year. Point is that "this doesn't happen" is bullshit marketing garbage, just like the Black Panther hype when Blade 1 and 2 were fucking aces.

did you know after or before the sex?

That's what I meant by "CR was the worst possible platform."

Do people really still care about this? I mean, no shows have ever reached the tumblr levels of “this character is disabled xyz, and this one has vitiligo, and this one blah blah”

What the fuck is this show even about?

At least Dyke-Ra has some semblance of a plot, High Gobbling Spice is just, 4 demi-trans-queer-agenders doing .... something?

This.

Also they aren't afraid to make their "diverse" characters goofy or over the top. Puri Puri Prisoner is a better gay character than Marceline or Korra and he's a criminal rapist.

I think they had women and men in that writer’s room

>the idiots running crunchyroll DESPISE Goblin Slayer despite being one of their biggest hits
>nobody gives a shit about this retarded shit
all is right in the world

Attached: 1566665903008.png (800x750, 81K)

>Dyke-Ra
This along with the fact you're criticizing the plot of something that isn't even out yet just makes your opinion fucking worthless.

Two shows out of the hundred cartoons in the last year doesn’t mean much. Hollywood as a whole has an inequality problem with women in creative positions, that’s why the HGS teaser was excited to have an all female writer’s room and 50/50 artists

How often do you see anime remake older properties and racechange, genderchange and just plain radically change a bunch of characters and then go on interviews expecting to be praised for that like its some kind of miracle they made a character black this time and you need to thank them?

Because that happens a lot in western cartoons, kind of colors your perception on how they view 'inclusivity'.

The Blade movies didn't have a predominantly black cast, black director or writers
So that analogy doesn't work.

>Yea Forumsmblr is just a buzzwor-

Just proving my point.

Bit hard to criticise a nonexistent plot though.

Enlighten us, what is your show about?

post >yfw you'll NEVER pay for a crunchyroll subscription

Attached: 1564166044911.jpg (213x252, 23K)

>Two shows out of the hundred cartoons in the last year doesn’t mean much.
Two that I can immediately point to because they marketed it.
Can you tell me which shows have exclusively male writers? You're making a big deal about it, so point to some. And please don't give me some bullshit and point to a show with a bunch of female storyboards who actually write the episodes.

You know damn well how many people were boosting BP solely because the lead was black and Wakanda was cool.

It's not even out yet.
You can't tell me the plot is nonexistent before we see even 1 episode.

you never had a good point to begin with.

A decent trailer can give the viewer an idea about the plot, and this shitshow was announced a year ago.

You're telling me they're keeping their super original plot under wraps so no one steals it?

I'm not saying they shouldn't have had a proper trailer showing off the cartoon, they should have, the point is you can't tell me the plot is nonexistent when we don't even have one episode out

Is that even important?

It is to the people who buy shit as a political statement,

This. Many Japs are fucking fascist as fuck but for some reason they are great at making diverse characters that are not there to fit a quote. Most western creators are not like this, at all.

Attached: akio.jpg (450x300, 18K)

Because despite how fucked up they can make their characters, like Itsuki from YYH being an insane homosexual predator demon that groomed humanity's champion to be an insane faggot, he is still miles ahead a better character than Korra.

Attached: itsuki is a creepy homo pedophile demon.jpg (669x1100, 115K)

I don’t have time to dig through writer’s credits now cuz I have an animation job to go to, but don’t you think those two came to the top of your head because they ADVERTISE it? Most places don’t broadcast that they have an all male writer’s room because it looks bad. Anyway this is a problem that goes well beyond cartoons, just google it

>he is still miles ahead a better character than Korra.

>Fag actually believes this

So it's not important at all.
Just for people that have nothing good to do with their lives and feel the need to support anything just to feel that they are part of something.

It’s important if you care about equality? If not, then I guess not

What makes Korra a better character than Itsuki. Please tell me? At least his character is consistent.

Equality is more important than quality?

>consistent
Tell me you don't know shit despite trying to talk about it.

i.e most consumers
At the end of the day this shit isn't charity, it's marketing

Not him and not a fag, but virtually every character in YYH is superior to any of the characters from the shit sequel of Avatar.
If you think otherwise, I think you are the fag.

Are you saying women can’t write as well as men?

Her non existent character development over four seasons of learning fuck all

Attached: smug megan.png (614x691, 384K)

This, all those corporations that paint their logos rainbow for a month still gladly have dealings in countries and with governments that persecute gay people

Is the gender quota more important than quality?
Can't a group of men and women work without caring of how many men or how many women are in the room and just focus in making a good story?

this tactic you're using won't get people to watch your subpar magical girl show

Anime characters are cute. "Diversity" in western cartoons means having ugly disgusting hambeast dykes.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a magical girl show? Hell yeah this what Togashi truly wanted but Shueisha never allowed him to do so.

>Insulting rather than defending his argument.
Amazing, simply amazing.

Oh no, we do. It's just less prevalent in anime because japanese people really favor light skinned characters altogether.

Um are you retarded? Are you referring to YYH or YJ, which in that case neither are magical girls show, retard.
>also not knowing what YYH is
Zoomers were a mistake.

>Yea Forumstards are at it again

Attached: hoppswaiting.jpg (500x500, 26K)

don't play retarded, you started this dumb thread hoping to rope people into(and reminding them since most of them forgot lol) watching spice trannie choo choo or whatever

Wow, this wennt from bait thread to autistic containment thread in the blink of an eye

Are you throwing a tantrum?

>oh no they caught onto what I'm doing, better play the victim
so predictable

Um what? Japs are not the ones making those retarded hideous things in the OP. Trannies in anime are hilarious and sometimes interesting characters, when they are made by westerners (like OP) it is always because of an agenda.

>Puri Puri Prisoner is a better gay character than Marceline or Korra and he's a criminal rapist

That's very sad.

Do you want a western example?
Shore Leave and the Alchemist are way better gay characters than Marceline and Korra.

Because when anime does "diversity" it is either a cute girl that you root will win the MCbowl or an outrageous side-character that helps out the MC

Attached: Buisccuit_Oliva.jpg (757x1200, 544K)

They can, it’s just that without quotas set out by the company, the people hiring will always lean toward hiring white men over anyone else with the same credentials. It sucks, but that’s the world we live in. That’s why affirmative actions exists

Do you want to see diversity in anime?
Watch and read Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, you have everything you could possibly want and more.

Attached: Joshi.png (238x459, 428K)

>the one guy in the cast likes fat white chicks
wonder what he meant by this

Asian writers make diverse casts because diverse casts are exotic.
Western writers try to make diverse casts even when it doesn't make sense, in an attempt to "represent" people.

You really can tell the difference.

Well for one thing there are probably like seven anime max (The only ones I can really think of off of the top of my head being Michiko & Hatchin, Black Lagoon and Cyborg 009) that fit the modern definition of diverse.
Typically if a fat, gay or non-Asian/white character shows up they are played for laughs or just have a very small role.
That being said I really don't see the problem with a diverse cast as long as it isn't something terrible and slightly insulting like Marvel's Tumblr pandering stuff.
That shortstack halfling is cute.
Unless he became a much better character after I last caught up to the manga I would call him pretty shit tier.
The guy is just an unsubtle fag joke.

"Diverse" anime is literally just visually diverse not racial. I also never have to wonder why a jap animation studio made a character white or black if any.

>it is either a cute girl that you root will win the MCbowl
Who won't because the cute vaguely foreign brown girl never wins.

Even anime's codified brown characters are fun and sexy

Attached: tumblr_bab7ff9d6c6bccc3ab76a008f5a287ad_d2d16bc8_400.gif (400x339, 729K)

Based. An anime including a black character isn't done because the artist thinks representation is important. They'll do it because they thought Carl Weathers looked badass in that American movie I saw, I want to draw an over exaggerated muscular black man inspired by him because he's just so fucking cool.

She is straight up just a pink Japanese girl.

because japan/France appreciates beauty the US does not

Mary Blair was a Disney concept artist that drew beautiful artwork, one of the most beloved heads of Cartoon Network is a womanno, not that one, Betty Cohen, Marjane Satrapi wrote and created a graphic novel still read up on in schools today, and LOTS of others, going back all the way to the 1940s. France has lots of women in the art and animation field, same with Italy and Spain. Finland/Sweden has fucking Tove Jansson, that alone is a massive accomplishment. Women worked under Bakshi, and did a bang-up job. Sally Cruikshank made one of the most acclaimed Sesame Street shorts out there, Quasi at the Quackadero. It's in the national fucking film registry for the US. The Brumberg sisters contributed a heap and a half to Russian fairytale retellings with their animation. I could think up more, but you get the point, right?

I feel bad for Raye.

>don’t have time to dig through writer’s credits now cuz I have an animation job to go to
You're full of shit. If you were part of the industry and cared, you'd have even one example of something you say happens all the time.
>but don’t you think those two came to the top of your head because they ADVERTISE it?
Yeah. And the advertising plays on our ignorance. It isnt gonna blow back on them because how many people even pay attention to credits?
>ost places don’t broadcast that they have an all male writer’s room because it looks bad.
The only cartoon I've seen in the last decade without a single female writer was Samurai Jack S5, and that's because Genndy wrote the whole fucking thing with some help on a few episodes. All the popular cartoons have female writers. *You admitted you can't think of a single show without them.*
>Anyway this is a problem that goes well beyond cartoons, just google it
Everyone knows that nepotism breeds both incompetence and solidarity. I don't like that either, and it took a long time for women to direct cartoons at all.

But you're spouting bullshit from a place of ignorance.

>Not knowing that Netflix fired all of it's in-house animation lead executives.
>There's reports of it on many places, even Forbes

Read some fucking newspapers, kid.

For me its because I know less about how Japanese culture handles this so when I'm watching an anime I can't immediately tell what the mindset behind certain things are most of the time. I live in America and I am drowning in shit, 9 times out of 10 if there's a fucking black character or a female character even you can bet your ass the creator has tweeted or blogged about some deep rooted meaning behind their fucking inclusion and that this random thing that should have been a normal line of dialogue or action was really a metaphor or powerful statement for women or whatever. Cut down any question when its some LGBT shit, that's just immediate.

Well, if something, this means that they will have some japanese/south korean advice and co-working going on, which may or may not push up the quality regarding animation. About taking risks, they still can do that at least for some proyects, since outsourcing to asian animation studios will reduced costs. They will be much more cautious and careful about what to greenlight, that's for sure.

>this girl did not win

Attached: the protagonist did not choose this.gif (500x280, 948K)

>The guy is just an unsubtle fag joke
That's the point user, an unsubtle fag joke is still some how better than most of the lgbt characters we get here in the west

Because in anime, diverse casts are there so characters can play off each other's cultures and backgrounds, both as friends and as rivals.

In western animation, casts are diverse so niggers don't chimp out.

I don't like Korra or Adventure Time but those characters were actually characters so they easily beat funny haha homorapist.

>Korra or Adventure Time
> beat funny haha homorapist.
>Trully believing this
user you need help

>anime they like has a diverse cast
Name one. For example, there are a lot of Koreans living in Japan (zainichi). Name one anime with a character who is Korean/half-Korean/any amount of Korean ancestry.

>"why do you guys like diversity in anime?"
>user proceeds to list a bunch of racist reasoning as to why that's the case
Really makes one think

That was some fucking BULLSHIT.

nope, still not convincing anybody to check out tranny spice choo choo

Anime diversity can be shit for different reasons

While western animation might put in diversity for pat on the backs [/spoiler] you just don't like what's happening and will assume such things are the case Anime diversity is just putting them as side characters assisting the MC and will probably never get the attention the fans believe they deserve

There's tons of characters straight from america that are just walking stereotypes of Americans being brash assholes who fucking love their country
Ambiguously brown characters that might be half japanese because the creator was too chicken shit to go full force and just make them an actual foreign character with no ties to Japan beyond living there at the time
Gay characters that are almost always a fag joke

You might say it's a good thing because they're not trying to be super diverse but that could be also said that the problem is that they're not trying and just going the easy route of stereotypes or tip toeing around it

why do people want to ruin their show?

Attached: 1535784153686.jpg (1000x1000, 293K)

>those characters were actually characters
>Korra

but that's okay because now she can win the anonbowl

Bob's last name is Makihara, you asshole.

good post

Unfortunately you're not going to change minds because they didn't even talk about the characters or the plot, which is far more important than all the shit they did talk about. You have sell your story to the audience before congratulating yourself for making it.

the fact you're not only complaining about it but putting it in spoilers tells me you're a huge faggot

He clearly spoiled wrong dude.

Netflix's original Anime style show, Canon Busters, came out to less fanfare but its good. Its quality. Its a love letter to Trigun, Bebop, and Outlaw Star. How's that such an artistic success with a scoundrel of a protagonist while this languished in never being finished and being touted too early in its production cycle with never any actual trailer or anything to show for it beyond "Look at our creative team and their preliminary designs,"

they don't do it tastefully AT ALL but they don't try to pretend that there's anything tasteful about it
