How did a physics genius not know this would happen?

Panic and lack of experience
Ever since then, whenever the same situation arises, his modus operandi is to launch himself to those falling, catch them, and only then websling themselves to safety

Panic. Had to make a decision instantly, didn't have enough experience, didn't have the best aim, etc.

You think football players calculate the physics before the throw a ball user?

Cause he's not. Peter's usually a biochem genius, sometimes mechanical engineer. Then again, he still should've known what was gonna happen.

It's not like his universe follows physics most of the time.

I do.

Look at this fucking nerd.

he panicked

HE'S A SCIENTIST, NOT A DOCTOR, JIM!

Wow, the writers knew exactly what they were doing here. Note the little "snap" next to Gwen's neck, it's almost difficult to read, meant to be missed, meant to leave the reader second guessing.

>it's almost difficult to read
The orange text with a font that makes it stand out is difficult to read?

>A fall from that height would kill anyone before they hit the ground
That feels wrong but I'm not a physics professor. Yes, I know her neck got snapped but that still stands out to me

It contradicts what happens on the same page. Did she die because her neck was snapped or did she die of a heart attack?

Whoa, nice catch

Desperate times comes desperate measures

>nice catch
It really wasn't.

The idea of people in freefall dying of heart attakcks before they hit the ground is nonsense.

>physics
Chemistry

I think what really depresses me here in this page is that Peter starts bragging about how great he is, and how everything is gonna be ok.

Yeah just a little bit of patting on the back to really rub in how much he fucked up

Panic. Had to make a decision. He should have jumped instead

Funnily enough, that’s what could’ve saved Gwen according to the “What if” story.
I think what he did was jump down and made a mini trampoline with his webbing, if I can recall.

The whole thing is like Kyle Rayner and the fridge. A traumatizing moment that he keeps finding himself reliving.

Hank McCoy probably used to

>inexperienced
>webs usually have spring to them that would normally absorb shock, just like a bungee cable
>not enough shock absorption so when he caught her, the energy had no where to go but through her and ended up snapping her neck (and more than likely a bunch of other bones as well)

Exactly. It takes quite a while for you to die from a heart attack. It's also a lie when people say "oh they passed peacefully in their sleep from heart failure". Nah. Heart attacks are painful. But it's also why you can resuscitate someone who has just had a heart attack. As long as you can get the heart to start pumping blood again, they can be revived. However if you're slow on the uptake, even if you're revived, your brain goes without oxygen which leads to brain damage that you may be unable to recover from, even if revived.
