I’m white but I went to school with a bunch of black kids growing up. A lot of times, black girls would randomly ask me if I had any lotion on me. I thought it was kinda weird at first until I eventually figured it out.

From what I remember, the nerd ginger girl was just that, a generic 1 note nerd character, her only other quirk was that she was tall.

The generic guy in Penny's group had no real personality (at least from what I remember) and was mostly just there to get raped by Penny's ugly hoochie friend.

The Hispanic girl actually started off as another one of Penny's tormentors in the early episodes and I don't know why the writers decided to retcon her as another one of Penny's friends.
Also yes, when they weren't generic, they were just shitty friends and people overall.

In canon it's because they're ashy, but in reality (and likely what it's actually based on) when your skin gets dark enough it can start to shine/reflect blue when you're in the light.

it was a double slur, one benign, the other is old school hateful. The benign one is ashy. Because it's a bitch to animate a small surface around multiple joints, they were just blued out, as opposed to greying them out and making them look like zombies.

I think you have it backwards. The one girl stayed blue after her makeover, but there was another episode (or maybe the same one, I dunno) where Penny started hanging out with them, and she started to dress like them and to turn blue also. After Penny’s transformation, her friend asks her if she stopped moisturizing. This is the only time the show hints the other girls are blue because they don’t moisturize.

Fun fact: Osamu Tezuka’s Black Jack has a face that’s half blue because he received a skin donation from a black guy.

That’s just how highschool girls are. One day a girl can be your bully and your worst enemy, and the next week she’s suddenly in your friend group and saying you’re bffs, and you later find out it’s probably because she thinks getting invited to your birthday party will give her a better chance of getting asked out by that one guy on the football time.
