For some reason Season 8 and 9 get a lot more good press than they deserve and I don't think they were anywhere near as good as 1-7.
What's the most overrated Simpsons season?
I don't get people who think Season 10 was the last of the classic seasons when it was so obviously the first zombie season.
sneed
People who think 13-14 were a revival after the Scully seasons. You're fucking kidding me, right?
yeah I used to also believe 13-15 were a mini-renaissance but it's just a tamer version of seasons 10-12, often not as funny in many cases
Season 13 was a mess. Having bad traits from both the Scully and Jean era with few memorable episodes and more clunkers than before. I actually like seasons 14-16 but I don't understand why season 13 is seen as a great season.
13 and 14 were pretty awful. I watched those episodes as they aired and found that experience to be almost as dispiriting as the Scully era, though his seasons had lower points. Looking over the episodes now, some are fucking horrendous, like The Lastest Gun in the West, Gump Roast, The Frying Game, The Strong Arms of the Ma and Barting Over. Just terrible. Out of 44 episodes I found eight to be watchable at all.
A lot of fans worship Season 7 and it's well known that Oakley & Weinstein love the show enormously and put a lot of TLC into their work as showrunners, but I feel the episodes aren't as energetic, edgy, or ambitious as what came before. Still a lot of good episodes, but it all feels a bit tamer than 1-6 and there's a lot of awful ones like The Old Man and the Lisa and A Fish Called Selma.
By Season 8 it gets even worse with some previews of Scully's run showing up. There's still a lot of good episodes but Oakley & Weinstein themselves acknowledged that they felt the writing wasn't up to snuff particularly in the second half. 9-10 are good enough that you could say "90s Simpsons" and people would know what you're talking about, but they're very much of a new era of the series. I guess they seem great when compared to the godawful Season 11, but the show starts feeling tired by this point.
Season 11
Whatever the newest one is.

Testify!
You’ll notice that about 75% of Simpsons shitposts are based on jokes from Season 7/8. And you know why that is? It’s because they’re more Reddit than 1-6.
They had some episodes like Summer of 4'2" that could be a real drag to get through.
I feel Season 5 is a bit weak and Dave Mirkin and the new writers he hired didn't find their groove until Season 6. Season 5 has too much wacky plots and Homer being an asshole.
Season 10. Seriously, what makes it so different from season 11-12 in tone and style?
Season 16 isn't as good as I've heard from some.
the HD seasons are not enjoyable or even watchable in the slightest yet I see people claim those are somehow a step up from Scully and SD Jean
Whatever it is, it's not any of the seasons from 2 through 7. Consistent perfection or close to it for 6 straight years. Amazing.
I'm going to go with Season 8. I'm sorry but there are so many overrated episodes in that season. It's not to say that I dislike it but I just think a lot of the episodes are given too much credit.
You Only Move Twice - Good but overrated
My Sister, My Sitter - Bad storyline, Bart and Lisa were too unlikable for my taste
Homer vs. The Eighteenth Amendment - Again, good but overrated
Homer's Enemy - Too dark for me
The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase - What the fuck is this?
>The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase
That episode was straight trash. It feels like a post-Season 11 episode.
Lisa's Sax, The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson and Lisa the Simpson are probably the only episodes from Season 9 I consider very good. The rest are either mediocre or bad.
I would unironically watch that Florida cop show with Wiggum and Skinner, though.
>Lisa's Sax
Too sitcom-y and 100% totally predictable.
>The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson
This is a 4F episode so I wouldn't really call it Season 9, but it's still meh.
>and Lisa the Simpson
Sappy but one of the better Season 9 ones.
Season 10 is not the last classic season except for people who like to make a nice rounded number. Like how is it any different from Season 11?
5 has way too many huge movie-like episodes like Deep Space Homer and Boy Scoutz'N'The Hood. It doesn't have the smaller, more character driven stuff that much.
Season 13 because people thought with Scully gone and Al Jean running things it would be as good as Season 4 again when it wasn't really much better or different than Season 11.
...
Most overrated season is 11... because some people legit consider it part of the Classic era instead of the dumpster fire that it is. And when you ask them why, they just retort with "Behind the Laughter was great" ignoring the fact that it was preceded by 21 terrible episodes.

I keep seeing these threads about how 9 & 10 are overrated, but I think it’s the opposite.
9 and 10 are classic.
In fact, throw in season 11 as well.
