To answer your question, I don't even fucking know.

Good pick. I think a large part of why I like her is just that there aren't many adventure stories where the protag is a mom instead of a youth or some grizzled male badass.

by animated i'll assume you mean 2D.
whats with all the fucking mouse movies anyways.

Yeah pretty much

Based, I love Frisby for exactly that and how timid she is, it complements the story terrifically

lol wut

Megamind. It's rare when the protagonist is ALSO the best character in a movie.

I've always loved Milo.

I do not know why. I think its the hair.

Review something good for once, Saberspark!

People have been ripping on Toy Story recently so I’ve just gotta say that Woody is probably one of the best protagonists in all film.

>Cats Don't Dance is not good

She's an absolute beauty. Very very murr.

Somebody needs to make a .gif of that scene from the review/movie where he's talking about her hair. She looks absolutely fabulous.

based brisby poster, she's my favorite too
they're really very few mother protags in general, and she rises to the challenge despite being just a little mouse way out of her league with four kids to raise and a recently deceased husband
Secret of NIMH is just a damn good movie too, easily one of the most beautiful animated films around

Attached: 1557257541600.gif (500x421, 705K)

That's exactly why I love Frisby, she's a mother who went to incredible feats to save her son and her family. We really don't see anything like that today

Secret of NIMH never ceases to amaze me, even after 10 years of watching it

It was Don Bluth's magnum opus

Attached: Screenshot_20190722-141347_Google.jpg (1074x1079, 376K)

It's truly his best work, I'm pretty sure he's said the same
Even as his later stuff declined in quality, I'll always appreciate him for taking the big step to actually leave his position at Disney and try and recapture the magic and beauty of the golden age of animation he thought was going away at the time.

Since this is now a Nimh thread, here's a song about it.

Would it be safe to say that Mrs. Brisby is the "Courage The Cowardly Dog" of Don Bluth films?

>she's naturally frightened of alot of things in the world, including very pertinent dangers
>despite this, she thrusts herself into danger for the sake of her family

Not sure about Bluth but Goldman and Pomeroy both consider it their group's best work. It helps that this was the only film they had complete creative control over.(though some complain about the added fantastical elements which were not in the book)

They were originally going to make another film after NIMH(East of the Sun, West of the Moon) but it got canned after a major union strike. Fortunately Dragon's Lair made a lot of money unlike NIMH and Spielberg was impressed enough by NIMH to get the studio for a movie deal.

>whats with all the fucking mouse movies anyways.

Mice are small enough that they can create a mirror world of human society while maintaining a separate life from humans.

Cats and dogs can't create a separate mirror society, because they're too big, and also explicitly part of our lives. But mice could have their own little world hidden in the walls of our homes and in our sewers.

Attached: great owl.webm (640x480, 2.99M)

Ok. You got me.

Top tier choice.

I fucking loved the Great Owl in that movie. Holy shit that was so well done.

Why are mice so kino

Was Ori inspired by this?

Shame they haven't done more with the franchise.

Very solid character arc too.

deuteragonist gone protagonist so she counts

not my favorite per-se but one on my list of many that just makes the film feel complete

Attached: mittenscansmile.jpg (463x425, 130K)

Man, if I ever have kids, I hope I could muster even half the courage Mrs. Brisby summoned for her family.

I wonder how she'd react if you picked her up and started petting her.

I'd say so to a certain extent

Whether you're a male/female, your courage will come naturally. Life just changes forever when you see your newborn child for the 1st time as you know you'd do anything for them. Parenthood does wonders

What Crash Racing DLC is this?

>he hasn’t unlocked the secret roster

>he doesn't know

Attached: 1563382554617.jpg (188x213, 5K)

This is how you do a strong female character.

No one liners, no "I'm a badass" lines, just a regular woman who spends half the film terrified but confronts her fears for the sake of others.

He's A protagonist.

This shot doesn't sit right with me, it makes her stomach look really fucking weird...

The entertainment industry NEEDS characters like her: genuine, heartfelt and most important, real

It's a shithole thanks to the "empowered women" narrative that ruins everything it touches

Attached: Screenshot_20190824-103805_Gallery.jpg (1440x1422, 699K)

It's not quite there for me.
Maybe if they did away with the "DreamWorks movie with big comedian" feel.

The book is not nearly as good and anyone who tells you otherwise is just being contrary.

She can't be a protagonist if she shows up 30 minutes into the movie and then turns into an inactive statue for the last 20 minutes.

HOW DID I MISS THAT

Recently read the book myself and I agree. The film does an excellent job at improving Mrs. Frisby in particular.

>You stay.
>I go.

Half the book it spent in the labs. In the film they do it in about 30 seconds.

John Pomeroy:
>John Carradine was wracked and riddled with arthritis. He could barely walk. He would walk with a limp in a sort of hunchback fashion. And at first, it's a sad-looking impression that you're getting. Afterwards, after you put the man together with the physical appearance, suddenly he's very majestic in some strange, supernatural way. So all of these qualities I wanted to put in this scene.

Attached: great owl2.webm (640x480, 2.99M)

Have there been any recent ones? All the best of them are from the 80s.

Blew my mind as a lad when gave him a come hither look and said, "In or out?" instead of EEEEEK GET OUT PERVERT

So why is she Frisby in the book and Brisby in the movie?

Attached: Confused.gif (400x400, 106K)

Wham-O(Frisbee) objected to the name and Aurora wanted to avoid a legal battle they could not afford. Apparently the change was very late in production, and they had to alter John Carradine's voice lines manually since he could not re-record.

That movie is really something else

It's hard to believe this was made by Dreamworks Animation considering all the other animated films they made.

Damn

>It looks like a setup for a rape scene

Is this that chick from Star Fox?

Low population

back to /trash/ nigga

I like that you can tell Brutus is trying to be more frightening than to actually kill Brisby

And how Brisby responds completes the scene

Fuck, why is this movie so good?

Pic attached is mine.

I watched 'Secret of Nimh' for the 1st time about 5 years ago (on an ancient VHS to boot!), it is very good. I was a teen when it was released & thus wasn't interested but do recall my little brother going to see it. It seems to have aged well.

>mouse eventually goes to save tbe one it loves

Attached: Nancy.ohno.gif (215x215, 769K)

>ends with her and mike driving off with a bear hanging onto the back of their car
so they totally died, right?

Actually, the bear gets swerved off but yeah their final disposition leaves one hanging. I think the director tweeted that Mike & Nancy survive. Prob on the run from Bear mafia and unpaid bank loan. I wonder if they'll be in the sequel?

Attached: Nancy.worried.gif (300x225, 1.6M)

Here is a neat detail most people miss:
Justin refers to this guy as Brutus. You only see him from a distance, but he looks nothing like the giant rat from the earlier scene.

Attached: brutus.png (1920x1040, 3.88M)

Attached: newscan_173.jpg (1042x2200, 1.68M)

Just a lil' reminder that Disney now completely ignores her and her franchise.

It's just not fair, bros.

Attached: 1565466904414.jpg (498x441, 41K)

is there going to be one?
I don't know if THAT guy is better off with or without more

I'm not sure if I'd want a sequel after what they did to poor Ralph.

Basil of Baker Street from The Great Mouse Detective. In turn, Professor Ratigan is one of my all time favorite villains.

If we're talking villains, Haggard is up there for me. It's a real shame Christopher Lee never got to reprise this role in that delayed/cancelled live action version.

Attached: haggard.png (960x520, 1.02M)

Whenever I get sad I remember that there is a company that calls itself wham-o dedicated to making fun, neat toys

Mrs Brisbys perception of him made him seem scarier.
In the book Ages reams him out pretty bad.

Best DreamWorks film

I have no interest in seeing that happen but it would be interesting to see where that would lead in terms of character development. How does a character like that react to such an event?

If what you say is true, you were born in the late 1960s and have no place being here, geriatric son of a bitch

That's Illumination we're talking about, masters of cutting corners. Of course there's going to be a sequel, gotta reuse these fugly CGI models again to make quick buck. They did Secret Life of Pets 2, they will do Sing 2.

So what?

If he's old, he's old. You'll get there someday

Absolute Kino

Just watched it. How can one cartoon have so much soul?

Attached: soul.gif (480x368, 3.56M)

She comes across very submissive. It feels like they portrayed a housewife held under the patriachal society's thumb. This could be interpreted as a sexist trope by modern standards. But at the same time, she shows courage to combat that. Not sure how modern feminists view her, even though the film seems fairly feminist.

I do have to say that in modern terms, the empowerered woman seems somewhat forced and artificial. Brisby seems so much more down to earth. Possibly too realistic? I dunno. All I can say is that she is adorable in every way.

In the book, she's more like a bystander.
Originally, Jeremy and Justin had to bust her out of the birdcage and the cinder block was moved by the rats without her involvement. Quite a few people don't like the magic amulet but the goal of that scene was to have her save her children herself.

Attached: block.png (300x185, 61K)

where is this from?

It was a labor of love with minimal executive meddling apart from the 2.5 year deadline and relatively low budget.
Animators were also willing to work unpaid overtime, in return they got shares of the film's profits. Unions put a stop to practices like that soon after this film which is part of what prevented Bluth from doing another independent production.
