Continuing on with easily one of my favorite runs of all time.
Parker - Thunderbolts Pt. 7
Prior threads below.
This is an unexpectedly sweet moment.
What? What?? WHAT?!?!?! I love it.
Punisher 2099 is so bizzare sometimes I'm amazed it actually happened. Gets even screwier when you remember Pat Mills attitude towards the big two Superheroes.
Juggy is coming!
Gordon Freeman is only 27 years old. I am officially older than Gordon Freeman....fuck.
Happy Birthday?
Not my birthday lol. Just booted up Half-Life and that was basically the first thing they mentioned about Gordon.
I love how unique this version of Scarlet Witch is to Wanda's iteration. I love the contrasts between the two with their approach to the "witch" part of her name.
This man needs an ongoing. Meow if possible.
1. Heroes who are secretly villains.
>Classic Thunderbolts
2. Villains whom are presented as heroes.
>Ellis-Gage Thunderbolts
3. Villains treated as a black ops squad.
>Diggle,Parker, and Way Thunderbolts
4. Convicts doing superhero service work.
>Parker Thunderbolts
5. Villains on the Run
>Zub Thunderbolts
Alright, I'm going to try a Route 4 team. I'm also going to limit myself to five members to ensure that each member serves a distinct purpose for the streamlined squad.
>Team Leader
She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters). She is doing this as part of an early work/parole form of service. She is staking her professional name on this so she is not fucking around on this one. Pure professionalism. Peak Jen.
>2nd in Command
Daredevil. It would make sense to have someone who can serve as Devil's advocate (hah) to everything Jen decides to do. He's still largely on her team but every now and again will actively go against their interests. He's the moral cmpass.
>Field Unit
Prodigy (Richard Gilmore). He has flight(ish), super strength, agility, and invulnerabiility as well as years of combat experience and leadership experience. He's a highly adaptable team member with a more flexible set of morals than some of his peers (which is soemthing that will serve him well).
>Heavy Hitter
Emma Frost. I feel like she's done enough awful shit that she has to serve a minimum number of hours of "community service" and her hours are logged by an outside psychic to ensure she plays fair. If she can't overpower and opponent through force, she can dominate their mind which makes her a fucking threat on every level.
>Support
Mysterio (Quentin Beck). He can be used for crowd control, stealth, and psychological warfare among many other roles. Also the fact he reverse engineered tech to allow him to send an "Avatar" to a different dimension allowing for multidimensional whup ass.
I don't even care what the title is, Hernandez and Walker need a new ongoing now! Like seriously five seconds ago......seven seconds ago. Possible ideas include
>Ghost Rider (Johnny and Danny road trip across America).
>Moon Knight (protector of Hell's Kitchen)
>Marvel 2099 (Just do the whole damn lineup).
boomerang sure has a weird ass life
As much as I love this series, I can't help but feel like it would have been improved if Herman was here. Aside from his award winning smile, dazzling good looks, masterful combat skills, and a keen tactician's mind, he also has achieved the following.
>Self taught engineer who was capable of using basic items in a prison work shop and fashioned himself a pair of vibro-gauntlets.
>Intuitive and knows his subject inside and out.
>Vibro gauntlets capable of sending out devastating shock-waves that can level a structure in no time flat. The blasts can alternate between long range and short range, focused and scattershot, high intensity and low intensity.
>His suit is padded to the point where he can tank multiple direct shots from Spider-Man and keep going without minimal signs of distress.
>His gauntlets can be used to propel himself incredible heights and great distances and because of his training, he can basically shock jump wherever he needs to be.
>His gauntlets can shatter concrete, liquefy human organs, obliterate bone, and knock Spider-Man and other tough as heroes on their ass in a moments notice.
>His suit is capable of emitting vibro pulses making grappling near impossible, punching him an absolute chore, and throwing projectiles (including bullets) a waste as he can emit an aoe shockwave that either obliterates the object or flings that shit back to you. He can also aoe himself to deflect a horde of enemies.
These Tyler Christopher covers were really not the change to make mid-arc.
This art is just so gorgeous. It's insane.
Any recommendations for the MCU Norman Osborn?
>Matthew Mcconaughey
A truly versatile actor that can perfectly embody the sliminess of Osborn's charisma and the absolute insanity and sadism of Goblin.
>Gerard Butler
He's a bit older now as an actor and I think that will only serve him. He's also still in more than decent shape for his age and still could pull off action roles (especially whatever Osborn is going to do). Osborn is nimble on the glider but resorts to brawling when super up close so flipping around isn't really a thing. Give him the chance.
>Sam Worthington
He has youth on his side and I will say he is an underrated actor. He's not great, but I feel his work on higher fantasy movies (Avatar; Clash of) have prepped him for going full on batshit with Osborn. He can play restrained, but I want to see him go full Goblin.
Going Route 2:
This is going to be a fun team.
>Team Leader
The Beetle (Abner Jenkins). This is obvious in hindsight. No idea why it hasn't happened yet. He's served his time. Now I think he can lead.
>2nd in Command
Bruce Banner/Hulk. Bruce comes on reluctantly as he is the shining beacon of "Heroes gone bad" so he needs the good public exposure. He also has over a decade of continued combat experience and knows every horrible way a situation can unfold. He's necessary for keeping it real.
>Field 1
Hydro Man (Morris Bench). I admit most of my exposure to the character was the Animated TV show but if he could do half the stuff that version does and is capable of reforming himself after evaporation, that is a skillset worth utilizing.
>Field 2
Sabertooth (Victor Creed). No idea what he's up to meow, but if I could get his Axis iteration I think he'd be great for the team.
>Heavy Hitter
Anti-Man (Connor Sims). This may be a longshot but considering that he's expressed remorse for what happened, let's put him to the test. Also his iconography cannot be denied. He's gonna look good in a photo-op.
>Support
Black Cat. She may not be the strongest of the bunch, but I'd argue that the majority of the people she faces off against outmatch her ona physiological standpoint in at least 90 percent of situations. She is a brutal fighter when pushed, a master thief, and someone skilled in social engineering that would have earned her an oscar ten times over by meow.
My biggest concern is whether or not this team would even be accepted by the public. There are some pretty "off" choices I decided to go with. Again, I would love to hear everyone's thoughts for their own Thunderbolts team! I feel like assembling some T-Bolts is more freeing than just picking for the Avengers. Based off what I've seen in Marvel comics over the past decade, any villain could be an a Avenger. But not every hero could be a Thunderbolt.
>I'm drunk, maybe disregard that last one.
>Is pulling it out worse?
Luke, this job just isn't for you. You're just a bit too....weak for what's unfolding.
Another Route 2 team.
>Team Leader
Hank Pym. I feel like his time leading Mighty Avengers as well as managing Avengers Academy elevates him to someone I would happily lead a team. Also he'd come at the program with a unique perspective. The fact he tried to recruit Loki as an Avengers shows how he's willing to think outside the box.
>Right Hand
Black Widow (Natasha). I think her time as a Secret Avenger would directly translate to a Thunderbolts team. Also I think she would be great at reeling Hank in as well as having an empathy for the struggles he goes through.
>Field 1
Penance (Robbie Baldwin). Speedball is still associated with Stamford and that will NEVER go away. We'll stick with this persona but have a less masochistic costume.
>Field 2
Venom (Eddie Brock). I feel like he'd do well on a public team as he has an innate desire to be a hero and the public attention would cause him to be more in check. Also his years of experience with the suit knowing its ins and outs makes him invaluable.
>Heavy Hitter
Titania. She would be absolutely perfect. Skilled. Experienced. And would be able to subdue Venom if he goes rogue.
>Support
Moon-Stone (Karla). I hate that I went with this option but she is too useful for too many different reasons to not include on this position. I hate it, but she's a Thunderbolt.
Fucking embedded file
Going to go with route 3 (Black Ops team) so I can form a "harder" lineup than I normally would.
>Field Leader
Ares. I'm going God of War on this one. He elevated his "Shades" squad to the heroes at Troy. I can only imagine him given a team made to do the dirtiest work that S.H.I.E.L.D. can't be bothered to do.
>Field Unit 1
Moon Knight. He is the perfect adaptable soldier that we can basically send in for any task and basically assume success. Also he has a track record for punching above his weight class so he is a goddamn beast prepared for the unknown.
>Field Unit 2
Scarlet Spider (Kaine). I know he tried his hardest to be a true hero, but let's be perfectly honest on this issue. Kaine is a monster. A straight up warrior. He has a moral schema that far surpasses anything Peter has dealt with and because of it we can actually ask this "Spider-Man" to do what is necessary and not have to worry about a weakling willing to let the world burn for the sake of "staying true" to their morals..
>Heavy Hitter
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff). I feel like if we're looking for a character that believes in redemption, Scarlet Witch would be perfect for the position. Also she is one of the few heroes that can stand toe to toe with some of the bigger beast heroes like Hyperion (albeit with effort). Her reality warping makes her a perpetual wildcard that would be essential for the shitty missions the Thunderbolts will inevitably be assigned.
>Support
Diablo. This isn't someone I would normally choose but the more I research him the more variable he appears to me. There is so much potential with the character that it's baffling he's not used more. If he's dead please don't tell me. I'd like to think he's doing great.
This is an unspecified team. I just tried to get into the mantra of making "My" Thunderbolts and these peeps popped in.
>Team Leader
Ronin (Matt Murdock). He takes a page out of Clint's book and adopts the mantle of Ronin to be the fearsome presence necessary to invoke fear. I love the idea of his catholic upbringing affecting how he builds his team.
>Team Members
Taskmaster. As long as he's paid well, we can count on him. Also he does get attached to his teammates so count on that. Not sure how public he could be unless we gave him a hero moniker (which may be amazing if given a good one).
Absorbing Man. He's someone confident in his position, yet opportunistic and if given the opportunity to go "pro" he'd go for it. His recent appearance in Black Bolt was an unexpected delight.
Shadow King. He's going to be given a "halo" to inhibit his mutant powers (provided by a joint venture of Pym and Xavier), but assuming he's not completely insane he'd play ball, even if just for a bit to ascertain exactly what his limitations/boundaries were..
Speed Demon. He'd do what he could to prove himself. That will be beneficial.
Sin Eater. He's operating off a sense of "justice". He's a zealot out of his mind, but could possibly be aimed in a different direction. With enough time, we could make our own Punisher.
Lady Octopus (616). Genius, check. Adaptable fighter capable of going one on one with Spider-Man (technically Ben Reilly) and winning, check. Hottie, check. Check, check, check.
Would love to hear how you guys and gals would approach a Thunderbolts comic. This is one of the few series that Marvel hasn't completley ruined (Zub-Bolts wasn't great but it wasn't the worst ongoing title).
I know this is a super plebian question, but if I wanted to get into classic Suicide Squad would you say just read the Ostrander issues and call it a day or soemthing else? On the topic of Secret Six, I see that Simone has four TPBs lined up. Would reading those TPBs provide everything needed to enjoy the book? Sorry for being needy. Just want to experience more titles like Thunderbolts.
What is it with villain teams and having analogs to other company's characters? That being said this guy is a pretty cool Black Adam clone.
Going to take one final crack at a Route 2 team.
>2. Villains whom are presented as heroes.
>Ellis-Gage Thunderbolts
>Team Leader
Ms. Marvel (Karla Sofen). I feel like he recent altruistic adventures has made her more accepting to the moniker. Also she gets to reclaim it again so win win.. Seing her in a leadership position is going to require her to develop so much responsibility it will be the greatest torture ever.
>Everyone Else
Red She-Hulk (Better Banner) is a force to be reckoned with. Close to a decade of whirwihind romance that would crush any persons soul and unimaginable power to ensure she is never taken advantage of again. Absolute Beast.
Power Princess (Zarda) - She was a prior team of the Squadron Supreme and therefore has a unique perspective when it comes to tackling issues.
Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) - He's just here as a vacation for The Spirit to basically go nuts on an evildoers buffet.
Molecule Man. He's been bribed into coming. He's reminded to stay human and not go full on nutcase and he gets reasonable genuine human contact would should greatly benefit his mental state.
I think going for the villain analogs adds a sense of thematic epic-ness that won't be achieved via a regular fight. It's a deliberate move to set the mood and overall atmosphere of whatever is about to unfold. A large number of times the analogs are cheap and exist simply for the sake of meeting a criteria. Not saying it applies to all of them. Opposite characters are tough. They can't al come as easy as Nega-Chin.
Probably last team I'm gonna make for the night.
"Real" Dark Avengers
>Captain America
Hydra Cap in the house. His costume was great and his differentiated shield design let everyone know he meant business. Also he's fucking worthy and more than likely can summon Mjolnir when no one is looking.
>Iron Man
Superior Stark ftw. He's not directly evil, just a self-centered narcissistic monster that thankfully has a sense of guilt buried under a mountain of grandiose ego and self-masturbatory self-esteem.
>Tanarus
The true god of thunder. Son of Odin. Rightful King of Asgard. Champion of the downtrodden. Strongest Avenger. No idea who this Thor person is.
>Spider-Man
Eddie Brock is using the symbiote to replicate Spider-Man, not necessarily to stick it to Peter (although that's a bonus), but because he reasoned to himself that if Mac Gargan and Doc Ock can do it, so can he.
Ms. Marvel
>Karla Sofen. As if there was any other reasonable choice. Carol is a cunt.
>Red She Hulk
Betty Banner is a great character. She has a clear history with Bruce but at the current moment is clearly dealing with some shit and she is using her "Hulk" version to work through some stuff similar to how Jenn does. Key difference is that Betty has a good decade of repressed trauma to work through so we see this exaggerated hulk.
>Giant-Man
Regular 616 Hank Pym. He's gonna screw up eventually and cause some type of Armageddon. Just give it time.
For those of you reading alone, how are you liking this series now that we've progressed from classic Thunderbolts to darker-ish Avengers stories (this is an underappreciated title to clarify). As much as I love the original concept, I love the entire idea behind The Dark Avengers and I adore Bendis' choices for team members.
The Dark Avengers are fine, I liked them in the next adventure they're in, right now the Underbolts are still the stars of the show in my eyes
>the Underbolts are still the stars of the show in my eyes
I hate how much I'm enjoying his time travel plot. Seriously, I hate time travel as a plot point because it's basically always done wrong but so far I've begrudingly accepted what I've been presented and I hate how decently corherent it is. It's not great, but it's servicible but that saiys more than antying else I could. This run/series is pure pazaak.
it feels like there's only really one bad guy on this convict team.
Ragnarok bringing the pain!!!
You are right. I can do better and incorporate more villains.
>Team Leader
I'm gonna keep She-Hulk for this one.
>2nd in Command
Titania. This person would give She Hulk constant shit but also keep her on her morals nonstop. They would help each other grow.
>Field Unit.
Kraven the Hunter. He operates well enough as a fearsome warrior that operates on the front-lines, but he works best when given a singular target and told to "go hunting". At that point I'd probably kil myself to avoid whatever is gonna happen
>Heavy Hitter
>Support
I'm keeping my boy, Mysterio (Quentin Beck). He can be used for crowd control, stealth, and psychological warfare among many other roles. Also the fact he reverse engineered tech to allow him to send an "Avatar" to a different dimension allowing for multidimensional whup ass.
Sorry peeps. Giot sidetracked on a teaching tangent.
Fuck I forgot the heavy hitter.
I vote for Superia (the prior Dark Avengers Ms. Marvel) as I feel she operates best as a blank slate and other wrieters (like Parker) could have molded her into soemthing.
boomerang and man-thing are delightful
I love the idea of Mysterio as a member of the T-Bolts. He's someone that has the prior chops (enemy of Spider-Man without his more extravagant stuff [Old Man Logan].) as well as having battlefield awareness to know immediately when to call it. If he can replicate the scene from Far From Home to any hero he would be unstoppable. He literally got me with the duplicate Fury. I hate it.
Preacher brother. There needs to be a Boomerang and "Insert Friend Name Here" title. Assuming we got a decent writer, I'm game.
Cute!
Fucking muties
>Troll is no killer
Maybe i'm mixing things up from the cram reading but hasn't tried quite hard to kill before this and tried to eat things too.
no more?
Finally my Juggy! I remember I told Parker on twitter that there was an art mistake here, with Walker's leg lol
Damn, I hope OP is fine.
This may be against the storytime rules but since OP is MIA I will complete this issue lol
Why they cant write teams like this anymore?
Why is this run so based?
i didn't know there was more to parker's run. many thanks!
Bump.
Good speed, new OP, this is my first exposure to Thunderbolts and I'm really enjoying it.
Thanks
Thanks for completing the issue. The benadryl I was on dropped me out like a light. I can at least do one more.
Getting coffee down the street. Be back shortly.
This is such an earned scene. I love it.
JUGGERNAUT IS BACK BABY!!!!!
They could have ended the series here and I wouldn't have been too upset. The fact that it continues on is just gravy. I hope everyone enjoyed! WIll more than likely finish the series later tonight!
Fun read. Thanks OP.
So glad you enjoyed. Considering I'm probably go to finish tonight I'll try and see if I can include links for the run. How does everyone feel about mediafire links?
Thanks
This picture is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. I love it.
bumpn I love troll
Badass! I love how good the Underbolts were developed and how good they worked with the official Thunderbolts team, that Troll/Hyde/Juggernaut gangbang against Ragnarok lol
I still don't know why they changed Gunna hair color...
Thanks OP... please, finish it, I know the Dark Avenger "exile" arc isn't as good as the others but it's the proper end, something that didn't matter a lot because nobody cares about the changes later, like what happen to Ragnarok.
Fun fact, Dark Avengers #182 and Uncanny X-Men #20 were released the same day... in Dark Avengers Cain returned as Juggernaut, in Uncanny X-Men Colossus stopped being Juggernaut thanks to Magik.
I think you'd enjoy Simone's Secret Six, and the trades are probably a good place to start. Haven't read her more recent stuff, though.
I remember reading her New 52 version of Secret Six and enjoyed it. I've just heard monumentally good things about the series. The issue is there is a fair bit of start up before I can just jump into the series (I could be mistaken). I heard that the four collected trades contain the entire series so we'll see.
For a few years in the early 10s, Jeff Parker was like a hidden gem for me at Marvel. He never had the same recognition, the sales, or the flagship books, but many times I've enjoyed his books much more than those of the so-called architects, Fraction, Bendis, Aaron etc.
The same goes for guys like Pak, Van Lente and DnA.
pak and van lente have been great together. pak alone is sometimes a hit or miss for me.
Haha I threw that shit before I walked in the room
I kinda hate that they ported Conan to the main Marvel Universe since that neuters the fuck out of him. Skaar was a better fit if they needed a Conan knock off with a heart of gold. With all the shit going on in Immortal Hulk bringing him back would be great.
Wasn't this a similar plot point in Remierder's X-Force going on at the same time, where some indeterminate time in the future an elderly Psylock took over the world, built Mega-City One and put up Frank as the Judge Dread of it?
>troll stronger than songbird
Does just mean physical strength?
Ah the tragedy of the Thunderbolts, a character will get excellent development that will be undone and completely forgotten the moment another writer needs a designated jobber
That was when she was feral and pretty much nothing but an animal, Hyde was trying to let her keep her new found humanity (or what ever the Asgardian equivalent is), keep her "pure" so to speak
>An XM
The go to future gun of the mid 2000
>A two bit Hawkeye can't even compete with a two bit Bullseye
Clint must be dissapointed in him
>Kid Crossbones
Bet that little shit browses nothing but /pol/ and Yea Forums all day
