Call me crazy, but Happy Tree Friends is actually brilliant in a way. It takes the trope of cartoon characters always being invincible and satirizes it by asking, “what if they weren’t?”
Hell, if you watch some of the tv episodes, there’s actually some clever and funny writing. They knew they couldn’t just kill characters for 7 minutes straight, so there are actually some memorable moments that focus on the characters and not gore.
And I think that’s it’s strongest suit. The characters are all memorable, with distinct personalities. I could totally see them along side other animal mascots.
