I love this transition so much. The book keeps telling us that Ultra is "you" but you keep getting put in the pov of the villain reading the book alongside you, this and the little kid looking at "us" and saying "get away from me" while Ultra is off elsewhere.

Love the implication here. The narrator is pretty clearly the Overmonitor, since the font is basically the same as in the story in the guidebook. When the overmonitor looked at the flaw and saw the story of all stories, he saw the battle in multiversity. The war against the gentry, in which they unleashed an "endless event", or a "conclusion that never comes but continues to arrive"Multiversity is the crisis that contains all crisis. It truly is Morrison's final statement on the DCU.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Grant Morrison. His comics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of esoteric Tibetan Buddhism most of the plot will go over a typical reader's head. There's also Grant's gnostic outlook, which is deftly woven into his great work- his hypersigils draw heavily from the Gospel of Thomas, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these adult graphic novels, to realise that they're not just funny books- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Grant Morrison truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the tantric shakti inherent in The Filth which itself is a cryptic allegory of the life of Christ. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Grant Morrison's genius wit unfolds itself on the printed page. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a tattoo of King Mob. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only (and some men!) - and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Is this Morrison acknowledging that Michael Ende's Neverending Story is a major influence on Multiversity? The Gentry, which is a metaphor for lack of interest in comics, is the Nothing, and Ultra Comics is a book that exists in real life as well as itself, like the Neverending Story does.

What I’ve noticed in DC is that being high in the hierarchy doesn’t mean you can’t be punched out. Vyndyktyx was punched out just by a research team redirecting their station’s energy at his spear, and later by Earth thinking his name backwards at him. And apparently Darkseid’s fall was the cause of the Monitor civilisation’s ultimate collapse so. I dunno, it doesn’t seem impossible with how offhandedly bullshit New Gods sometimes are.
