ITT: we make make the 2020's artstyle

Everyones hates the cute and soft calarts style here, so what do YOU want the elements of the next big artstyle to be? Draw or post some examples of where you'd want the medium to go from here.
QOTD: Are there any show's who's artstyle you'd like the next gen of cartoons to adopt?

I dunno, I rather feel the cartoon design should match the genre of the cartoon. I feel the major mistake today is making the same style for every show. It’s not a one size fits all solution, and if anything it makes it look like a ripoff of something else.

More anatomically correct (1970-80 in your chart) for action shows. I have no idea why tv shows strayed so far away from that when it looks so bad when they do.

Comedy shows would depend on the type of comedy. Of course gross out and reaction go with the 90’s, but if it’s more puns and wit, limited animation of the 1960’s or 2000’s would work.

I really think we tired out everyone with the 2010’s look though. So at least retire that for a few good years. Minimum of 3.

Perhaps something with a lot of edges and sharp angles instead. Always liked that style. Like Invader Zim, Teenage Robot, or or some of the Cartoon Cartoon shows.

We'll get a huge new artstyle next decade, but you can't know until someone does it and people copy. It could be anything
We'd love the high-effort animation of something like LTC, but that very likely won't be the style we get.

I feel like we're going to get designs that are simplified, but optimized for fluid animation. Exaggerated body proportions, but not cartoonishly so like the noodle-arm Adventure Time/CalArts thing.

I also wouldn't be surprised if more and more animators started embracing the lewd-ification of their characters. Considering how much interest in a show a bunch of horny internet weirdos can keep generating in perpetuity, playing into that seems like a smart move, so I see a lot more focus on busts, butts, bulges and all over THICCness. There's no way r34 is going to stop, so better to just do your best to harness that beast for your benefit instead of trying to act like it doesn't exist.

So, basically, I think minus8 is the future of animation

user, I doubt lewdness is going to be big.

I suppose something more angular but still retaining a pretty simple look.

Let's revive the Hannah Barbera style. It's an option.

Not actual lewdness, just a much more lewd-friendly approach to character design.

HELL FUCKING YEEEAAAAHHHH, THE FUTURE IS WAITING FOR ME MAN

It'll look like bigger budget newgrounds/youtube/webseries animation.

Example: Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart

You've had a generation of animators who had an incentive to find ways to make content watchable (beyond just making a pilot) on a shoestring budget, so even with corporate being cheaper than it used to be, it's more than new animators are used to working with.

I think we're going back to pseudo-anime. On second thought, fuck that. The rise of streaming service cartoons is going to see a lot more of "western animation" being outsourced to Japanese studios, to the point where it becomes the dominate style of the 2020s. In other words, anything not aimed at the youngest demographics is probably going to be Canon Busters or Castlevania.

Ech, no thanks. They made cartoons for decades after decades and all their shows had one of two artstyles: Scooby Doo, and The Jetsons.
Arguably that was the only two /types/ of shows they made, too, animated sitcoms and shows about teens solving mysteries/crimes.

French-Korean CGI
Calling it now

Jonny Quest looks like neither

I just want it to look less cheap and have more cute girls.

Does Korea even count as Yea Forums? Outside of outsourced stuff I mean

So Rise of TMNT/Battletoads? I can see that.

I think a more angular look with a pastel shading. Kinda like a mix of 50s and 2000s

There's been this really garish looking aesthetic emerging where everything is drawn as rough and saturated as possible.

Fair point.

Either villainous artstyle or Gashis or Harry Partridge

I can see that growing in individual art pieces as a rebellion against the Calarts style, however in actual animation it's just not efficient.

Agreed, but it does look decent in motion.

user, drama about the animation industry being filled with "sex perverts" because of slightly suggestive Amphibia fan art got the Amphibia crew crucified.

This image was made by someone who looked exclusively at memes and never watched a cartoon once

soulless millennialcuckery

Tyson Hesse is really setting the bar for modern cartoon animation with things like Sonic Mania Adventures but in reality we're probably gonna end up with that faggot Thundercats no effort looking shit.

Yeah this reminds me of this artists work too. I honestly like the style and hope it catches on, of course without the heavy saturated colors.

I don't think the animators are going to be out there making network funded smut, user. I just think that instead of the current proliferation of flat chests and waists the same diameter as shoulders, we'll see more things like pic related.

You can't tell me everyone working on Twelve Forever looked at Butt Witch and said "Hm, yes. A name like Butt Witch and she thicc. I'm sure THIS will be the time the internet behaves."

They knew what they were doing, and i'd be surprised if they weren't trying to get some mileage out of it, at least a bit. I don't think there'd be even the moderate amount of Twelve discussion on this board right now with a more conventional villain design from the past 5-10 years.

not sure but it will include necks and broad fingers
going for easy but distinctive designs which are still expressive and easily animated

I remember pic related being posted as the possible future trend, basically people who are nostalgic for geometric cartoons and have some french/euro influence

>muh 80's was for toys
fucking zoomer religious garbage, the 80's extreme prosperity allowed tons and tons of experimental shit to be made and hit the theaters and TV. People where hungry for novelty and animation provided. the 80's was a era of pupettry, stop motion, collages, and weirdass concept made just for the sake of it. filmation and HB aren't the only studios in that planet.

I hope for an art-deco revitalization phase, like PPG, Dexters Lab, Samurai jack, and my life as a teenage robot.

Outline-less is the style of the future

And it can look great in 3d, rather taking advantage of it's flexibility than being a cheap copout
I was really disappointed when the actual new ppg series didn't turn out looking like this
