as a dispassionate MCU fan I can't say this wasn't unexpected that the licensing issues would come up eventually. I personally find the spiderman mythos corny and uninteresting so im actually more excited and engaged with what they're going to do in the spiderman vacuum. This is a mischaracterization of the deal. True, Disney gets all merch but that’s because Marvel always got all merch rights. Sony has Marvel Studios on as handling all of production and footing the bill, as well as “consultation” (aka ghost-producing) non-Spidey Sony/Marvel movies like Venom and Spiderverse. Sony only pays for marketing and distribution. In turn, Marvel studios got 5% off the first day’s gross (aka a percentage of opening weekend).

50/50 sounds pretty fair to me honestly considering how Feige saved the Spider-brand after how shitty Sony treated its Marvel IP’s post-2004

He was the most likeable character because of his underdog status, his grounded character (No experiment shit, no alien shit, no vodoo or magic, just a guy in a suit with cool powers) and his friendship with the new boyfriend of his ex wife. His love for his daughter is always one of the best things in the movies. The fact that they made his daughter older now might be one of the most interesting things in the MCU.

If anything... Marvel should build him up more.
