The reason having a LOT of candidates is bad is because only one can be the nominee so their supporters end up losing enthusiasm for the main guy and that 1) hurts turnout 2) having a lot of candidates means a lot of people are fundraising and spending constantly, which burns out donors when Democrats have been burning cash for the past 2 elections and 3) the Dem candidates literally do Trump's opposition research for him since there are so many of them looking to take Biden/Warren/Sanders down a peg, making it a lot easier for Trump.

Many candidates sweep areas that they ultimately don't really represent simply because so many people there don't fucking vote.
