I've given up reading almost every new Western comic, outside of Power Rangers. How they turned such a rubbish show into the only decent Western capeshit out today is a bloody mystery. MHA is still unironically the closest to a modern Claremont X-verse.

There's a lot of heroic pulp fiction that inspired the comic book heroes we have now still in print. Doc Savage is still a blast to read. The Shadow and Black Bat a bit less so.

The Spider is back out in monthly reprints of his original novels, while the entire library is out in ebooks that are the same $3.99 as a 20 page Marvel and DC and have hours of story vs 3 minutes of bathroom read. Dozens of them are even in audio books, so you can literally pick a medium to grab them in.

Operator #5 was a golden age James Bond and is pretty much still available in the same formats as the Spider.

There's just too many alternatives to $4-5 capeshit that just reads like retelling of old stories, movie treatments or political pampheltering to give these fools your money.

1. and this may just be my personal bias, they used to be less on the nose about it. 2. mainstream liberalism has become more radical as time has went on. 60's Marvel liberalism would not hold up to scrutiny of contemporary liberals and feminists. Having achieved most of their goals, liberals have shifted further and further left. "Straight white dude" will get casually thrown around as an insult, feminist and queer theory is taken as gospel, all that jazz. These ideas were already floating around during the 60's, mind, but only now have they fully penetrated the mainstream.
