At this point I think it's unstoppable. There have been a few "odd" things in the show.
The fact that Adorabat has never been actively heroic and only wants to beat bad guys makes her seem like an aggressive person. The show uses it as comedy, but sometimes -like the scorpion bucket scene in All by Maoself- it's called out. There's her leg too. She was listening to heavy metal in the Bobo chan episode.
At this point I'd believe that she's not even a sweetiepie.

The problems with stuff like Steven Universe or Adventure Time is that they lack a strong leader, so you're trying to do "deepest lore" while having collaboration and it's a mess. Lord of the Rings doesn't have an amazing world because it's the accumulation of 40 different writers. It's why Gravity Falls worked so well UNTIL the "strong leader" got sick of it and wanted to bail. Then season 2B happened and it took a noticeable dip in quality.

Again. Not a bad show I just feel like it's holding itself back with the restrictive nature of the show and the done to death morals and lessons. It's just retreading alot of tracks and I think it can do better honestly. These Adventurers should be fighting those Sky Pirates and monsters like a classic monster of a week show and make the action scenes last longer. If you're not gonna change your themes and tone at least focus on the defending in the defenders part of your title.

The biggest problem (and the problem with most cartoons on TV nowadays) is the restriction to 11 minutes per episode. There's only so much story you can tell in that amount of time compared to cartoons back then which were almost 30 mins per episode. You can't actually develop anything, the most you can do is tease for future episodes over and over again.

They gotta follow Teen Titans Go shitty programing style. But it might be possible to do something like Jack did just with less depth or make those action scenes juicey.

A lot of the writers come from Titmouse productions for Adult Swim, where explicit morals are rare and the storylines are more mindfucky than didactic. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stiltedness comes from having to adjust to a Y7 audience. Either way the fast-paced nature of the show means they don't dwell on the lessons for too long, so it doesn't really grate.

That makes me wonder if there's a grand plan for everything or if they're just gonna make it up as they go along.

I think it comes from lack of writing talent, but I want to know why they are still so desperate to prove they know how to write drama when they can't.

Those shows were meant for that. Mao Mao has the same thing going on, but there's this perfect balance of genuinely goo prone characters and cynicism that a lot of shows miss. It's like the moments of "I cherish you" and Mao Mao needing therapy even out in such a way that the genuine feelings are there but they don't overcrowd the humor. It's refreshing actually. Not Impressed may be as close in tone as we get to anything serious on the show and I'm perfectly fine with that.

It seems inevitable that there will be some sort of drama and continuity involving the Mao family. However, just because other shows have tried and failed at implementing overarching storylines, doesn't mean that all shows will.

Yeah, it was better suited for it. Steven and the gems had more immediate lore behind them. Mao Mao we pretty much know already. There's no ominous overarching mystery being hinted at as the king looks on with concern about some looming event as the episode ends. We don't see Badgerclops destroy some communication device as he was a triple agent for some villain group he didn't tell Mao about until he learned that he really cared about him and the cutie pies. No one is trying to hide the truth about Adorabat's parents from her. The show is as deep as "Mao Mao had an abusive father, Adorabat is a homicidal weirdo, and Badgerclops is a former villain and maybe gay". That doesn't mean that we can't have episodes that involve plot and lore, but it's not going to be like SU. In fact, the show makes it clear that it's not going that way. It's going to be humor first.

The reason I don't care for shows like SU, Twelve Forever, Amphibia etc. is a little hard to explain, but it's not because of lore, it's more like because...they're trying to be too hard to be relateable to kids? It was dark, but it was pretty funny how Orangusnake was apparently going to give a speech and instead he just drops badger just like that. Even the music cuts off and honestly that cracked me up.

The Thicket Thieves saw Mao Mao in that pitiful state and mistook him for an easy target, but having a chance to beat the shit out of some thugs brought Mao Mao out of his funk enough to prove to not be such a simple target.

Badgerclops, meanwhile, had probably set up for his rescue (though used a larger rock and ended up actually stuck) and things went a bit out of his control when the fire started and he panicked.

I like it in moderation, but lately creators don't seem to know how to use it properly. It either takes over the show to the detriment of more appealing aspects, or background material that's more interesting than what's actually presented. There's rarely ever any in-between these days, and it's getting annoying.

Oh. His name Bao Bao because Mao Mao named him.

In season 1 they're just normal henchmen of a rooster named Rooster. They're actually implied to be brothers since one of them says "our mother."
Then in season 2 theyre brought back, and Rooster says he lost a wedding gift for them and the pandas like "Wait what" and Wing and Wong are like "Yep we're love, DUH." and then....that's basically it. The most they do is hand holds for no real reason like once. They only ever hug out of fear except for one time. Pic related in my previous post was the most romantic thing they say, and this was in response to Wing thinking Wong fucking died.

There's also some kind of weird running joke about Wong being pregnant. This was probably intended to be a joke about how they're both so stupid that they think they've been getting each other pregnant, but I've seen a lot of people who genuinely think Wong is actually a girl. The whole situation is pretty lame for someone like me who almost got a cute gay warthog couple in a cartoon, but didn't really get much out of it.

In DnD, which is what I assume when anyone says "fighter" as though that was a real class, Mao Mao is a ranger (monster killing specialist, dungeon delver), Badgerclops is a wizard (AoEs, buffs, bullshit for every occasion) and Adorabat is a barbarian (VIOLENCE! KILL!).
