It would really depend on how much he actually showed up in the rest of the MCU and where they took his arc. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans had multiple starring movies under their belt in addition to the lion's share of screen time and character importance in the crossover movies. Endgame was a natural point to "end" both characters. Meanwhile despite stuff like Jane Thor apparently coming up in the next Thor movie, Thor is still kicking around and off to do some space shit and Banner will probably show up every now and again. But everyone else was never really big either, though Black Widow's still getting some sort of solo movie soonish.
Pym could've ended up like Hawkeye, just kind of casually tagging along for some movies and eventually just fading away (though he might also show up in the future.) And if Ant-Man wasn't doing so hot, there'd be no real push to bring in Lang either. On the other hand maybe it would've hit it big and Pym would've gotten an Iron-Man/Captain America tier send off and then Lang would be brought in as his successor or something. It's hard to say.
But it's easy to imagine things might not have gone well, and that what we actually ended up getting might have been among the best likely outcomes for Pym's character and the idea of an Ant-Man legacy. Imagine if Pym had been around long enough throughout the MCU for people to decide it was time for another round of "Pym is off his meds and fucks up everything and is the villain?"

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with what we have of the live action Ant-Man. I too think that we ended up with one of the better outcomes taking into account all the production problems that the first movie had. I really like both MCU Pym and Scott and I hope that a great third movie happens.

Man this is what I hate about comics. Some random user can hit the nail on the head harder than actual writers.
All modern comic writers are so wrapped up in concepts of things that everything is shallow with poor execution. As opposed to actually characterising someone.

Yeah I really enjoyed the Ant-Man movies. Thought the first one was better than the second, but I really like Evangeline as Wasp, and she partners really well with Paul Rudd.
