Yeah transforming stuff, except he has no organic limitations like Firestorm. He’s essentially Dr Manhattan, except he used to do crazy shit like create a copy of the universe complete with its own Spectre. The guy literally created his own spectre, but lost to the power of yaskween.

He is. But he's also a soldier and dutybound. He doesn't do that sort of thing because it's above his station, but he brings what he needs to win a fight. So not using his powers at all is retarded.

This sounds a LOT like a bad writer being mad Atom was that strong and needing to hamfist a way to nerf him.

Nah the story itself was pretty great.
Several future versions of himself were coming to the present to figure out what cause Earth to explode in the near future,
people he had helped healed had retained small bits of his powers and we're acting like religious figures in this religion that was worshipping him,
that cripple guy went full mech wanting to kill Atom because Atom never healed him,
and then they fought a giant godbeast monster of himself in the timeline.

Would recommend the N52 run any day of the week.

The fight itself isn't the most unreasonable thing, since we've seen Cap Atom job several times before.
I think the real issue is King just writing characters with personalities not consistent to how they're usually known.

Cap being cocky isn’t anything new or bad. What’s shit is Gotham Girl being so cocky, the fact she’s mouthing off at CA like he’s a nothing or nobody compared to her is some of the most hamfisted character-wanking worf effect this side of Harley Quinn fighting the Joker. Making GG look strong isn’t the bad thing, it’s making CA look weak that pisses people off.

That's more of a mental limitation that he created for himself than anything. Default Captain Atom was already massively limiting himself. When Captain Atom was corrupted and went crazy? He was easily capable of fighting an amp Superman-Prime, several Monitors, killing 3 Superman (1 of the Superman had advance Kryptonian powers and more powerful than Prime Earth Superman), killing over a dozen Firestorm, defeating a few Green Lanterns, legit nuked 2 universe into oblivion. That all just from him going crazy and removing the mental blocks he placed on himself.
