Holy shit thank you. THANK YOU random user who shares my opinion. It's always bothered me how when they started making DC stories more serious, they never bothered to explain how Bruce can be a bastion of willpower and also can't keep it in his pants about some criminal scum hooker.
Say what you like about the "Talia rapes Batman to make Damian" story but literally the only time I've seen it make any sense in that it's portrayed as wholly negative and detrimental and not a fucking lifeline for a suicidal man.

I grant you it can be poorly done, and usually is 99% of the time. But comic writers inherit the whole detective x femme fatale from the hardboiled/noir tropes. So there *is* a reason for it, regardless of how good or bad it's been executed. I'm partial to Selina myself, but not everyone is, which is cool. But even with the women Bruce is next closest to - Talia, Ivy, Andrea Beaumont, or whoever, they still usu play the same "damaged" hot girl role, so the problem extends far beyond Selina. Zatanna and Vicky Vale are probably the only real exceptions to this, but even they seem to get roped into it somehow.

Disappointment, honestly. Not because of Tom King, since writers haven't known what to do with her long before he came along.
She's just become stale and directionless. People have so much trouble reconciling Selina as her own character versus Batman's unattainable love interest, she comes off as schizophrenic more than anything, and not in an entertaining way.
Like most wayward characters, she just needs a writer who actually cares about her. Not her as a STRONK woman who don't need no man, not as Batman's lover, but her. Someone who wants to tell stories using Catwoman, not just a proxy for crime dramas. Unfortunately those writers seem few and far between these days.

But her popularity is largely due to film, not just the fact that she gets adapted so many times, but that she's probably the closest to a noir-type villainess/vamp character you can get from a Batman story.
