>6 billion a year
Damn that is like two endgames a year
Iger also got caught using sockpuppets in the early 2000s to make the public and shareholders turn on Eisner
What a scandal-filled few days for Disney
medium.com
I remember SaveDisney.com.
Are you telling me that it was all a long con from Iger to oust Eisner? I mean, Eisner and his decisions were still pretty shit, but I always thought SaveDisney was grassroots.
Yeah, a fired-for-cause Accountant made some claims to the SEC.
Let's see what comes of it.
What's that? You're looking for a new CEO?
Bad Mickey, Bad! I hope they get banned at the Oscars.
So Captain Marvel really didn't earn a billion?!
nope fucking financial wizardry. they take money from other films and make shit movies look like blockbusters
Then how did Dumbo not make a billion?
bad news dude back then money was different. try adjusting for inflation
?
>people who don't understand how box office reporting works
You'd need a majority of theaters reporting false numbers to inflate a film's performance. That's why contrary to retarded conspiracy theories nobody fucking does it. There are other less retarded and obvious ways to cook the books.
Mostly, SaveDisney was mostly but not entirely a corporate propaganda attempt to force Eisner out
Because there was political motivation to make Captain Marvel look like a hit. Dumbo probably made MORE than what we were told. They likely used some of its revenue to inflate the revenue of other films.
everyone knows this but no one cares, nothing is going to change now
Holy shit, if this turns out to be legit then it only lends credence to when people were saying that Disney bought tickets to inflate Captain Marvel's box office numbers.
Isn’t that extremely illegal? The one thing you don’t fuck with is you’re reported revenue and loses the irs is one cruel bitch
Id love to know if this was extended to their film division. Endgame beat avatar so concisely before comic con the entire thing sounded odd, like it was planned
That wasn't Roy's original intention with the campaign, but other people took it over and forced their own goals onto it.
Yeah, they must've bought out movie theaters for Captain Marvel too.
People forget the fox deal was on the table at this time. A bomb right before a studio acquisition would’ve been the biggest blunder in the companies history, they had an incentive to hedge bets
Yeah, no shit. Disney has been bribing politicians for years.
OBSESSED and SEETHING
I thought book cooking usually involved driving down revenue and profits so they dont have to pay taxes
Carolfags are the saddest human beings on this entire site, and that’s counting /R9K/ too
Nothing is going to happen
business as usual
waste of quads faggot
I was being sarcastic, you ignoramus.
Looks like stocks are going to go down, remember /biz/'s motto BUY HIGH SELL LOW!
I love Brie Larson!
This is complete bullshit. I've literally seen Al Lutz in person, his sources probably had an agenda against Eisner but that's not up to him. I've in MiceAge for over a decade you don't know shit. This is baseless bullshit being spread by Viacom and CBS and Gary Snyder's Redstone family.
Also, we love Eisner now? Are we just gonna pretend like he didn't nearly kill the company he saved?
>That wasn't Roy's original intention
It literally was though
Yet another revelation Yea Forums has known for years now
Pink wojaks are the best wojaks.
>s
I'm pretty sure it's A GUY.
>Kuba said she brought her concerns to the SEC in August 2017. She was fired from Disney about a month later.
How come no one's ever tried to undermine the mouse with these?
Iger promised Captain Marvel land, he dind't deliver, now Feige has to become Disney CEO.
>Carolfag cannot understand sarcasm.
Stop bumping this thread and go to sleep kids.
Thanks a lot Europe, you fucked up Disney. Damn it France.
It had to be quads
Wait, if they're that short on cash, how can they afford to pay off Congress?
Disney repeatedly tells Congress to ignore the constitution, nothing they do is illegal
They did not buy tickets. They just claimed revenue from a different movie as revenue for Captain Marvel. Probably something like Mary Poppins Returns, they just claim that movie did 10-15% less than it really did and then reported that 15% on Captain Marvel.
The amount brought in remains the same, but they get to claim a different movie was more successful.
That just means they only got the final tally for global earnings when the theatrical run was completed in other countries. Nothing nefarious there.
Told you so.
They’re not denying Lutz exists, just that other people have been using his identity
I’m skeptical too though user, I was on Miceage/Micechat for a decade
and who's going to take fucking disney to court? you?
Because Disney didn't give a shit about Dumbo, that movie was probably made as a tax write-off.
who said court? investors look at public opinion more
Disney is one of the biggest corporations in the world, you're profoundly confusing greed with desperation.
They spent it all bribing them. Though I would look particularly into California and Florida Congressmen who are the most likely to be taking checks from them.
gross != profits to begin with. They didn't even touch a third of that money, before tax
So which movies did they shuffle the numbers for?
The article isn't about that at all. It's about the parks division.
laughing at dceu earnings?
>this is the company that ruined public domain by forcing the government that is fine that the mouse is immortal
Mouse is too strong
>what is every company ever
>l-look here's an article about employees at the park and some made up bullshit from some random site that PROVES the mouse is bad and lying about their movies
God Yea Forums you losers really can't just not be pathetic can you
These people can't read user most of them are from Yea Forums
No, this has nothing to do with their film division, it's some guy fudging amusement park numbers. Falsifying individual film box office numbers is night impossible because 1. Disney doesn't control the numbers, companies like Rentrak do, and 2. movie money moves through so many hands and is so keenly scrutinized that you'd need to invest over a billion in just paying people off.
Christ, why can't you people dislodge Carol from your brains?
Stop defending mega company like Disney. They don't care about you and they are part of everything wrong with our world right now.
Reconciliations are a very normal part of accounting.
Basically what happened is that they checked their numbers against other numbers, and found a discrepancy. They investigated and it turns out they fucked up and now they have a new number.
>white trash defending a corporation
Murrika fuck yeah.
He's not defending Disney you idiot. He's pointing out that a guy lying about amusement park numbers does not = all this company's movies actually made no money.
>all this company's movies actually made no money
Which is what actually happened.
>WAAAH STOP POINTING OUT HOW MUCH OF A PATHETIC LOSER I AM AND LET ME THROW MY TEMPER TANTRUM OVER THE EVIL MOUSE BECAUSE I'M TOO FUCKING RETARDED TO ACTUALLY READ THE SHIT I POST
...And you have proof of this, do you?
I am sure nobody went to see Infinity War, or the new Star awars.
and then people are suprised about why there's mass shooting, sucides and about why millennials are on drugs everyday.
must be videogame's fault.
Oh, they went. But the movies didn't make those billions they talk about.
Do you have proof of otherwise?
So that stupid conspiracy about Disney inflating their ticket sales for their movies might actually be true?
fuck off readsthearticlefag
You didn't read the second article did you
No
>>this was always his Endgame
It's not an article dipshit it's literally a glorified blogpost
Yes.
Let's hope this takes the Great Horned Rat down a notch
You know this actually makes sense, I entered a movie theater and there was no one inside yet it was the 5th highest grossing film that year
>Iger also got caught using sockpuppets in the early 2000s to make the public and shareholders turn on Eisner
The sockpuppets made the company's value nosedrop?
>You know this actually makes sense
If you're retarded
I guess they must have been doing the opposite a few years ago because my theater was packed for Lone Ranger but yet it bombed hard
>We literally have Carol threads every day.
I mean, it's not like Yea Forums's helping them in that regard, user.
> my theater was packed for Lone Ranger
No it wasn't
No dumbass, it's obvious that the sockpuppets directed and produced Home on the Range
it's about parks
Sure sure Disney has no shills in the community and has never done anything shady like use front organizations to buy Disney World's land
This is why Micechat responds by saying they will destroy people. Not a manipulated site
>I entered a movie theater and there was no one inside
don't out yourself down like that, you are SOMEONE, never tell yourself otherwise
Yes because Iger is an evil mastermind and wanted Eisner's job so he made sockpuppets on the internet to destroy the studio and get Eisner fired
It all makes perfect sense just like Disney forcing every theater in the world to only play Captain Marvel until we found out about it then made them add all the other movies in a few days later, and them buying all the tickets for their movies because some people had an empty theaters one time yet also needing to re-release Endgame for some reason
Yes it was as was my theater for John Carter and AvPR
That's how fucking worthless anecdotal evidence is retard
>Yes
No
Dumbasses don't get that the point is the sockpuppets use failures like HOTR to as proof he needs to leave along with other things shown on savedisney like "Eisner threatening to end traditional animation" (funny enough that's what Iger did)
not a conspiracy and NOTHING WILL COME FROM THIS
Disney is 'above the law' mode
Post proof.
they were watching actual movies two doors down nigga
>John Carter and AvPR
No one watched those films, where the fuck do you live?
No ones got proof tor a 12 year old films, All i got is evidence that no one went to see captain marvel.
It's not a conspiracy if it's really happening.
yes it is
buy a dictionary
What you mean to say is it's not a THEORY if it's actually happening
Marvel Sue
Positive claims are the ones that require evidence. And besides, the numbers recorded by Rentrak and the like provide all the evidence necessary on the non-lunatic side of this discussion.
Letting any company in any industry take over such a large percentage of the market is courting disaster. Once they finish breaking up Big Tech they need to take a long hard look at Big Media.
>Positive claims are the ones that require evidence.
this is not correct
Where are you on this chart
Maybe. Probably not to the extent that people were claiming though.
No. Read the article you idiots. This has nothing to do with their movie department. Also box office earnings are not tallied by the producers of a film, they're determined by a number of independent companies.
I don't care what crap goes on as long as the stock keeps rising in value
Acceptance
All companies do this not just Disney you’re an idiot if you think all companies are squeaky clean
>DOI READ THE ARTICLE
fuck off nerd
Eisner had his flaws and made plenty of missteps, but he was one of the few remaining suits at Disney who really seemed to understand Walt's business model. Iger's intent on turning Disney into the Weyland-Yutani of global media.
But reading am hard can't I just blindly believe Yea Forums instead? I mean when's the last time they were wrong anyway
>Yea Forums
?????
Yes it is. If you're going to propose a theory, you must provide evidence. The onus is entirely on you to support your theory, not on the side that doesn't believe you or is undecided. The statement of "This thing happened" requires evidence, "I don't believe you" does not - that's just the default stance until evidence is supplied.
Nuh-uh
If you're going to use an article has proof for something entirely unrelated to it, you have to expect people to tell you to fuck off.
I did read the article, it’s showing Disney cooks the books, I’m supposed to believe they only cooked the books for theme parks and not movie theaters too.
It’s called connecting the dots.
It's a little different. If this is true then all that means is that Disney isn't as profitable as they've said, but they will still be profitable. Enron was just hemorrhaging money.
It's called being a retard. Disney doesn't control box office numbers. They're tallied by multiple other companies.
After reading the thread I was about to say this. If they lose about one thing, why not another.
I mean revenue isn't necessarily profit and this is more than half that revenue falsified. Also apparently stock has dropped.
>it’s showing Disney cooks the books
It's showing an accountant is making accusations of book-cooking.
They've dropped 39 cents. I just looked. It's actually climbed since the opening bell.
Acceptance I guess because I love Disney and I'm still gonna go to the parks and buy merch and whatnot. Big corporation does shady business? What a shock.
And sometimes those companies can be complicit
See Arthur Andersen
>mfw I have 50 shares of Disney
>what is ghost screenings
There was a whole talk about this 4 years ago where the fuck were you.
Yes it does
True.
Yeah, good on you, it's up 25% for the year, but I think it just lost .38%. TIME TO PANIC!
That’s all I’m saying it just makes a degree of sense. No company is completely squeaky clean.
Possibly cooking the books for theme parts is not the same as inflating box office numbers or engaging in a campaign of fake ticket buying. Allow me to explain why it's stupid to conflate the two:
1. Disney does not have the ability to falsify box office numbers. Ticket sales, prices, and overall numbers are not tracked by movie producers, they are investigated and tallied by a host of other companies. Some are more famous than others, but they all essentially do the same thing, providing feedback that becomes legal for producers to use in statements. Paying off all these companies would mean spending billions just greasing palms, and even then, that amount of money being moved would be impossible to hide.
2. The second 'theory', that Disney literally just bought its own tickets, is just as fantastical. Not only would this mean a huge loss in overall profit (which a company like Disney is simply not going to accept), it would also be yet another incredibly vast amount of money that has to be moved in secret, with little to no preparation beforehand. Even if Disney was planning a year prior to completely inflate CM's numbers this way, there is no fucking way to spend that much money without various inside and outside investigators noticing.
There's a reason money is never laundered in these volumes, this quickly. It can't be done without being caught.
Best thing is that my Grandfather bought them for me 30 years ago when I was born. So it's all profit.
There was no evidence of ghost screenings. The most famous piece of 'evidence' people have posted is a fucking stock image of an empty theater from Google images. The most convincing pictures never show the movie being played.
If the $6 billion/year is true, that is damning. Considering they make $10 billion most years, that's over half of their profit.
That said, this could just be exaggerated, or put out by a competitor, to hit Disney before Disney+ is released.
They dont pay taxes anyway
And that's terrible
But it big company!! Big company bad!!! Ruined muh Luke! Down with Big company!!
Not before Disney+
D23 is starting Friday
wsj.com
Well it happens, I can’t find the original thread I don’t even remember if it was Yea Forums related but the guy was posting evidence that data was being manipulated
>If the $6 billion/year is true, that is damning. Considering they make $10 billion most years, that's over half of their profit.
Yes, they've been committing $6 billion a year in gift card fraud. In other news, Trump is days away from curing cancer. Actually curing it himself, not funding research on it. He found the magical herb while investigating Kenya.
Oh dios mio, is this the end of the mouse?
See
>C-companies can't commit fraud that's illegal!
See
That China is generally up to shenanigans is hardly breaking news, and has nothing to do with Disney, WB, Universal or anyone else.
Hey man joe Biden said he could do the same thing. That’s why he’s got my vote
Here's the thing (and don't worry, I have caught the sarcasm): I agree with these things. Big company IS bad. I haven't seen any of the nu-Wars stuff, but I'm willing to believe they did ruin muh Luke, because dredging up the old characters with completed, satisfying arcs is inherently a bad idea.
But big company is NOT omnipotent. The things people are trying to theorize are not within any large company's ability to do. The US government itself would struggle to redirect money on this level without being caught.
>They are COMPANIES, of course they are all fraudulent!
I don't believe you.
This has nothing do with Disney. This is THE CHINESE FUCKING GOVERNMENT falsifying shit. You know, possibly the second most powerful organization on the planet? And even they got caught. Disney would have no fucking chance pulling this off.
Possibly, but I find it hard to believe that a single accountant would be able to gain access to all information in a fraud this big. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, but I feel the amount probably fluctuates
good post keep it up
Still on denial I see
Anger will come soon enough
Like stage seven, annoyance that it took others so long.
Here's the issue; Enron had reasons for committing fraud. Pretty much every company who does "stuff that will get us in jail" has a compelling reason for it. Companies don't commit securities fraud just to make themselves look extra-good. Particularly publicly traded ones undergoing massive gov't scrutiny because of major acquisitions.
I'd like to see evidence of a crime beyond an accusation by a single employee.
There was a time when you were this skeptical of claims, but now you are emotionally compromised with Disney Haet.
They are all fraudulent.
They're just not capable of fraud on the level of the Captain Marvel myth. Nor is there any evidence whatsoever of the myth being true.
Who profits off it? Sure the Chinese government but are you telling me this doesn’t boost ticket sales or that the Chinese government can’t be bribed to pull this?
Why would a woman lie? I bet you’re one of those alt rightward who don’t believe women.
Bribed by who, and WHY? Are you saying WB bribed China for Aquaman, and Universal bribed them for F&F and Jurassic?
That every studio is paying the Chinese gov't to put up big box office numbers?
Buying fake tickets does not necessarily boost profits. It provides an image of success. It's not the kind of fraud anyone who can be held accountable does, because it's pointless. Companies like Disney literally don't give a fuck about saving face, they only care about $$$. They have multiple times just allowed horrible controversies and PR shitstorms to play out, because the only thing that matters at the end of the day is that they keep making money.
The Chinese government, however, cares a great deal about saving face.
Why not? This is a country that can be bribed to look the other way with lead paint and fake milk.
If they believed in saving face they wouldn’t be ok with there image as cheats who would sell their children for profit
>This is a country that can be bribed to look the other way with lead paint and fake milk.
You think that is done with bribes? This happens because their regulatory/inspection infrastructure is something out of the turn of the 19th century. People who get caught at it aren't fined, they are lucky if they get life in prison.
It’s bribery user, why do you think the government is cracking down on them and then handing out death penalties like candy.
Xi is cracking down on corruption because conveniently only his political rivals are "corrupt".
it's pretty neat how that worked out for him.
Yep but he has to maintain that charade when he catches people fucking up
Yes, but they rarely catch anyone who isn't either A. a political rival or B. has egregiously poisoned the fuck out of people/narc'd out, because their approximation of the FDA is a sad joke.
This is true.
Also, with Trump fucking with their Tech Giants for political payback, Xi would be more than happy to counter their claims of "intellectual property theft" and "unfair competition" with clear evidence that US media giants are grafting at them.
I'm just not ready to go all in on the idea that Disney or any other company is doing obvious securities fraud that requires scores of different collaborators for little more reason than to "make us look like we are doing even better than we are".
Are they doing some skeevy tax-shenanigans? I'd assume so, our corporate tax structure basically encourages it. It's practically an American tradition. Are they calling up AMC to connive a way to over-inflate and misreport box office (which would incriminated both in securities fraud)? I'll need more proofs.
SEETHING tuanpai
Disney are more evil than any of us imagined.
>youtube.com
they definitely bought out theaters. So many people were taking photos of "sold out" theaters that were completely empty. I wonder if Disney is doing this for Aladdin and their other movies that made a billion each this year. They flew too close to the sun, now everyone is gunning to take them down.
>still replying to my sarcastic post
Yea Forums is literally nothing but retards.
Anaheim politicians are all completely owned bought and paid for Disney bitches
they kill us with kindness and when that doesn't work they just kill us :(
That's why I remain skeptical about this whole thing. Also the timing with D23 and the Disney+ makes me think that this leak could be from a competitor.
However, if the leak and numbers are true, this is Enron level fraud.
And apparently Micechat owners had a messy divorce and the ex may have helped out on the hit piece.
That was just Iger shitposting back at fans that chased him off Twitter for shitting on Expedition Everest because it didn't have an IP tie-in.
This is the most Bob Iger thing I’ve ever heard
It's absolutely possible it's real, and it's not Enron level fraud. Enron basically was a failing company that was saying it was more profitable than ever. If this is true then it's just a company saying they're more profitable than they actually are.
>guy on /pol/ says exactly what any other /pol/fag wants to hear
seems legit
what if They only made /pol/fags want to hear those things so when they leak it seems to good to be true
it's circumstantial evidence, but yes could just be a LARP
It's time to make matters into our own hands
Let it all burn
Yes but not even the government messes with the IRS, nobody messes with the IRS
Scientologists BTFOd the IRS like no tomorrow. The IRS is still scientology's bitch
The IRS plays the long game
This. The IRS sits and gathers enough evidence to not only get their money, but to fuck your ass so hard that you bleed for eternity.
They hired Tim Burton to make a tax-write off movie?
Lol
Yes that's how much money Disney has, even their tax-write off's are expensive.
is that going to work vs Scientology?
Will they erect statues to Kevin Feige, Kathleen Kennedy, and Jon Favreau when all is said and done?
>guy makes edgy jokes on twatter
Surely, he's the worst monster humanity has to offer.
The IRS? Lying about your income will get them upset.
People go to extreme levels to defend their giant corporations. Disney doesn’t care about you, zoom zoom
Probably. Everytime they say that X is untouchable the IRS fucks them over eventually.
zoom zoom zoom
Was The Princess and the Frog a falseflag operation? That 2011 Winnie Pooh movie sure was.
It was literally one instance, and it was empty because the poster was an hour or so early.
I don't like Captain Marvel any more than you do, but lying just makes us look petty.
But Eisner did end 2D animation. Like the Florida unit shut down immediately after Brother Bear wrapped to consolidate the animation work over to California and their last project was canned in favor of putting the animators that could do CG on Chicken Little. Home on the Range was finished before Brother Bear, but they switched the release dates just to stick the knife in deeper by having Disney's 2D legacy end on a complete whimper.
Princess and the Frog was a goodwill gesture to Roy and Diane of going "Sure we'll keep Walt's animation legacy alive", same as acquiring Oswald. Then they both died and there was no reason to keep up the illusion.
Of course it's true. If it wasn't they wouldn't shill so hard against it.
>You know, possibly the second most powerful organization on the planet?
Tbh soft power is something that consistently eludes them.
She may well have been on notice for years if she was a shitty accountant.
What about the Yea Forums alita general?
Disney losing Spider-man is karma for this
They moved on to brie larson posting
It was a combination of trying to goodwill Roy and Diane before they died and making a black 2d princess film, especially for merchandising
in today's market? not really
you just need like fandango to do that with several pre-orders that no-show and don't refund
but it's not like fandango has any reason to bow to the mouse
yes, it's also what started the end of enron
it's probable. disney wants all the headlines it can get to help promote it's 5000 releases/projects a year, so it'd make sense to have a movie be "the highest grossing movie of all time" not accounting for inflation
book cooking is done for any number of reasons, and a company the size of disney would likely do it just to keep up its stock prices
that said, some of the allegation involve them shifting revenue to things that are taxed at lower rates
t. accountant
No, stop being retarded Yea Forums
the same was said of Enron
that's still a tale as old as time
doesn't usually come up as 60% of your reported revenue of that year
did you see Solo's box office?
these are Yea Forums shitters, not Yea Forums
If Disney is fucking with box office reports, why was Solo allowed to flop? Or Dumbo?
Enron was a start up that lasted a few years. Disney has been around since the 30s and has been expanding since the 90s
First this, then losing Spidey...
Feels good, man.
umm...
Don't ruin this for me.
Solo was the rare case of them being caught off guard
Dumbo ultimately box office'd twice its budget
the only people who were actually hyped for Captain Marvel were the disney paypigs and the people trying to earn goodboy points, so it's reasonable that they can prep for it. God knows Fandango was more than bending over backwards for them
Checked
And Disney and most of the gaming companies are FUCKED, they are waiting for that little opening to fuck them over and put it on the news.
Worse is that Disney has no one else in the congress to cover their dirty shit, and A Sherman isn't that far.
