It ranged from pretty good to spectacular for the entirety of Peter's tenure on the comic. Even the 'relaunch' with Peter post-ultimatum (Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man I think it was called) was great. I'd honestly put the weakest parts of the comic as the earlier issues where it was still finding its footing and just felt like a retread of the same stories everybody already knew. Even then it wasn't bad, just decent.

Bendis has weaknesses and the same weaknesses show up in most works by him; but that's hardly unique to Bendis. Miller, Morrison, Johns, and Moore all have weaknesses as well but that doesn't make their runs bad.

Bendis clearly isn't the same man he was 15+ years ago and that might become apparent if he were to write a street level comic today; but to imply as did that Bendis has not ever been good at street level comics seems incorrect.

It could explain why Bruce never found out, either. Thomas scrubbed his past as [animal]man and his wife's past as [animal]woman so they could lead "normal" lives. They became lethargic and got owned by a random crook, turning Bruce into a darker Thomas.

I disagree. There's no real change in Bendis' writing, the pacing and dialogue have remained consistent and the problems thereof (especially the dialogue) were always there. He's got one voice for all his characters and one beat for all his stories, it just so happens that this voice and pace is well suited to rapid stories centered around street level hero's juggling their heroism with their everyday life.

I would say both are Dick books, but Black Mirror is unusual in that Gotham is the setting and the antagonist in some ways. But the lens we see it though is Grayson's, Babs' and Commissioner Gordon's.

The difference is that wasn't the entire focus of the run, or even really one of multiple major focuses for that matter. Whereas Death of the Family was all about making Joker as edgy as possible. Yet also paradoxically not edgy enough, with the conclusion being that he didn't do shit to the family physically and the "death" took place on an emotional level. Actually pretty reminiscent of the current King run now that I think about it, where Bruce being "broken" by not getting to marry Catwoman had as little impact to it as him and his family "dying" by them losing trust in him. That should be a basic rule of thumb these comics writers are given before they start a run: Comics world is high stakes fantasy and not like the real world, therefore subtle emotional consequences are a bad choice for your startling climax.

I also feel that Bendis has gotten a bit more full of himself (likely due to editorial sucking his dick all the time) and his interactions with fans/social media has definitely become more prevalent than it was 15 years ago. A lot of people hate Death of the Family for Joker’s portrayal of a deranged Batman fanboy that sounds like half of the post on this site.

The idea of it is Joker decides that Batman has become weak because he has too many sidekicks (an idea that gets brought up here once a week) and his solution is to kill them all so that it is only Batman and the Joker forever.

Tony Daniel in Detective Comics cuts off the Jokers face but Snyder brings it into his story as Joker showing Batman that he has no Mask and that Bruce should live like he does. No Mask, No Strings to Bruce Wayne, just Batman and the Joker.

A popular idea and this site and the Joker saying and being treated as wrong triggered a lot of folks.

Snyder didn’t try to kill Alfred just cut off his hand, which he finally got in Endgame.

That's a really tortured attempt at rationalizing some bizarre alternative to the obvious explanation that it's just a shit story about Joker being edgy and Snyder trying to do some even more extreme take on A Death in the Family.

It wasn't exactly explained, but in the Button story (the Batman/Flash story that tied into Doomsday Clock), the two end up in what looks to be the remnants of the Flahspoint Bat-Cave.
They meet Thomas, Bruce and Thomas have a heart to heart, then Batman and Flash escape as this remnant of Flashpoint crumbles away.
Notably, the last thing Thomas tells Bruce is to stop being Batman, to try and live a normal life with his son (they spoke about Damian earlier).
At the time, the theory was that Dr- Manhattan orchestrated the events in the story to weaken a key member of the DC Trinity, by making Batman question his ways.

Eventually, that Thomas showed up in King's run. We don't know how he survived, or how he came in contact with Bane, but it happened.
As an aside, Bane also has Skeets, Booster Gold's companion, on his side. He could've used time travel to pluck Thomas out of wherever he was, who knows. Thing is, we also don't know how Bane got his hands on Skeets, so everything's still a mystery.

Nah, Bendis would have Duke redeem Catwoman through anal sex. And also introduce a new super-genius black female Robin.

Making a 13 year old kid (who happens to be from the other important romance in Bruce's life. Dick and Tim had bad things happen to them that were not their fault, getting shot in the head by Kgbeast and punched in the face by Bruce, but of course Talia's kid has to be punished for his actions and not just because he's surrounded by evil people) partly responsible for his death makes it even worse. I don't think Damian wanting to do something against Bane's rule is bad. Tim saying they can't do anything to save Gotham because one man is in danger is dumb. But from what I can tell this mostly looks like Kings is trying to make Damian look bad and make dc get rid of him down the line.
