"Act 5 Act 2" means that it's the second Act of Homestuck's fifth Act.

I liked quite a bit but to mention a few - like the Vriska parts; in meat she's shown to be a dumb kid that got in way over her inflated head, and then her conversation with John in candy was hilarious. Karkat calling out Jane/the humans for treating the trolls like the secondary characters they are, despite making their universe, was good. The dramatic atmosphere of scenes like the funeral that Aradia suddenly crashes was good

I know a lot of people hate Gamzee because he always feel like he was tacked onto the story at the last minute, but that is why I love him. It's like someone built a cake and frosted the shit out of it and just before presenting it you take a wedge of cheese and ram it into the side. Now the people who planned on eating the cake have to deal with a chunk of chedder in their way, having to cut around it and pretend it doesn't exist. He's like a retard with a pistol glued to his hand. You wish he wasn't there because he brings the room down and doesn't add anything. But you also can't ignore him incase he gets upset and starts killing people. So you need to give him the occasional nod to keep him from sperging out while you curse him under your breathe. Then there are the people who just pity him and know what a shitty life he has had and just want to make it better even though he can never be better.
Then there is Roxy, someone who grew up thinking they're a fem fatale elite hacker babe with no society to tell her to think that, who suddenly think they're a dude for no reason other than "because I said so."

I can feel that. The main plot seems to be heading towards either a cast reunification or an actual lore dump. I love the Winged lore, but I'm still really fuzzy on what the individual backstories for each of the winged actually are. As far as I understand it Mei was basically a stray wish from another winged who through its nature (good luck) was able to basically bullshit its aka her way back into the hands of her creator, aka her mother (which is why she's the only winged we know that actually has one). Kaji is a winged created for some royal winged (heart?) purpose who winds up fucking up and getting stranded in the mortal world. Corona's a particularly strong winged who manages to fight off death as a baby long enough to be captured by another winged or monster who saw her as useful enough to capture and exploit for years. Later on she manages to somehow break free and lands down in the monster world.

Let's compare the crafting systems.
In Homestuck, you have the alchemy system, which involves encoding an item's properties into a 48-bit code. Said codes can be combined and manipulated using bitwise operations. The process is imaginative and yet rooted in real computational concepts. Further, how do we find out about it? We explore it along with John, making discoveries as he does. Though we do get a bit of summary exposition (in the form of John's contribution to Rose's guide), that's just a review. The actual learning happens through action.
Meanwhile, Vast Error's crafting system is pretty much just a typical video game crafting system. And we learn about it when a game construct explicitly tells the protagonist about it, over pages and pages of overly long dialogue. When he crafts something, he's just following instructions that were given to him. The joy of experimentation is absent.

If you consider meat and the 'continuing story' then John is fucking dead, Jade is possessed and in a coma, Jake is publicly humiliated and disappears from screentime, and Jane alienates herself from everyone else in her mild crusade to control the Troll population. Calliope hijacks one of Jade's corpses and quite possibly infected her Ultimate Self like how Caliborn tainted Dirk, the Strilondes are STILL the big focus of the kids with Dirk the full antagonist, Rose the kidnapped damsel in distress, and Dave the ultimate roboasshole. The only Meat Strilonde to avoid this is Roxy, who instead becomes trans. That's it, that's her epilogue endgame.

And I liked that bit in John's backyard where he fell off after fucking around on the pogo slime and Jade and Jane helped him up.
That whole scene in the backyard was nice, one last time with them before you become engulfed in their fucked up adulthoods
Candy Jake had some of the most rewarding development in the epilogues. Towards the end I was reading both routes simultaneously, and seeing him finally man up, address how he fucked up, resolve to do better, and truly find hope again was great. Putting this bright moment in among all the bleak and hopeless storylines made it feel like he was casting a hope field on the story.

The thing I find fascinating about Candy is that we're given the premise of "nothing makes sense because we're detached from canon" but there's actually like a bunch of factors of why things were how they were, like John's own ennui warping reality into a feedback loop of mediocrity and suffering, Gamzee being a corrosive influence on reality who clearly gained some knowledge about Meat Dirk's plans somehow, and the way things immediately started getting better when Vriska distracted the fuck out of Gamzee.

To a lesser degree that helps me make sense of Roxy's actions in Candy, why she was so invested in John staying around that she tried to be as agreeable as possible, the tacky ways she tried to keep everyone together with the funerals, and defending Jane way past when she should have stopped.
Like don't get me wrong, I really liked her speaking out near the end of Candy, but having the standard amount of agency a Homestuck character gets means she's made a lot of poor choices, including placing her son in a situation where he had to regularly encounter Gamzee.

To be fair, I think John and the boys kind of got caught flat-footed, and anyone with actual agility could get past the succ lasers pretty easily (as demonstrated by Davepetasprite).
