There's a wide variety of black features but black features nonetheless. Its very rare to see someone who looks white who's actually black. And vise versa

You know anime always weirded me out with that as a kid. I figured it was a style thing, but for some reason whenever they had black people show up and they looked exactly the same just with a palette swap, I assumed they weren't actually meant to be black people like me, just some other brown skinned ethnicity from some far off country

Most of the time in anime black characters are given distinctive facial features and hair. Chances are if they aren't given some sort of feature, they're just brown Japanese people.

The entire concept of passing for white is long and storied, so it's obviously possible and features aren't monolithic.

I get commissions a lot and I have a black OC. I've found it difficult to find artist that do actually give black features so I've pretty much just settled with whatever I get. Pic not related I actually really love it.

as a black artist myself i'd say just use black features if your art style is little detailed or not but lets say your style is simple well then make sure the person is black but what type of hair they have, i have an art style that is simple it so to let normal dude know that this person is black is by showing how black the hairstyle is, non black anons if you draw black characters try searching black hair on IG/twitter etc instead of drawing twin puffs n box cuts

Pretty sure I saw this thread before. I'm an artist so I really took a bit to sit down and think about how I draw black people. Really I just think it should be whatever looks appealing or funny, or both, from a cartoonist's mindset. I knew there was gonna be a couple things I had to learn more about, especially hair, man I learned quite a bit about hair that day, and that there was more than one way to apply a weave, how wiry or straight it could be, all that good stuff. I managed to find two good resources on hair that I included in this quick guide I made a while back, and I'd like to add even more to it with even more examples.
