I mean Batwoman often didn't just fight crazy villains, she'd deal with cults and supernatural beings. Something that you didn't see as often in the main Batman comics.

I have little to no hope for the show, but I'm hoping for some glimmers of batkino between all the virtue signaling and CW drama, and even in the comics some of Kate's skill is unearned - but they very rarely have her outright successfully fight Batman. I think the best she has really done, without context that explains it away, is fought Nightwing to a standstill which is still too much. She can beat up Babs Batgirl, I think?
The issue really is that she is their new Oliver. Their 'main' street level hero for the same type of stories they would throw at him (if he hadn't already poached some of the better villains). And he went through some shit and intensive training, and later League of Assassins stuff, that explain his skill.
Even suspending my disbelief, it's going to be a hard sell when Batwoman is treating with almost as much reverence as Batman by the other heroes, when we have no reason to believe that Sara Lance/White Canary couldn't kick her ass without even taking a hit.

I'm not joking, but don't disagree it's a joke. It's clear they want her to take that 'slot'. Even hamfistedly having Batwoman and Supergirl teaming up as the 'Worlds Finest'. They already tried to make Arrow into basically Batman, giving him some of his bigger villains, plot threads, and closing the close-quarters fighting skill gap (traditionally Ollie comes across as B-list at best and can even struggle in fist fights with thugs), and even gave him a lot of a Batman's stoic persona with his fear tactics.
Now they obviously think they can keep that going, ending Arrow, with a gay Bat show. The issue is that while Kate is competent in her own material, to varying degrees, she often relied on her tech and gadgets, never having trained even close to as hard as Batman nor having his one-on-one training he gave to his apprentices.
This Kate looks like a brawler/street fighter. Did she even finish her military training, or does her discharge occur while on deployment?
I would tend to agree, but then, never underestimate the Bat logo. And they will probably force it's success with greenlighting extra seasons anyway and cameos from other bat characters like Nightwing and Red Hoos just to keep it alive. Otherwise they have no 'badass normal' in their super team ups.
