How the hell has this show lasted for so long?

It’s a kids show. They mooch their plots off of ever-changing modern concerns, i.e. Arthur has an episode about raging when playing online, Sesame Street addressed autism and homosexuality.
Through generous contributions from Viewers Like You.
They why haven't other kids animated shows lasted remotely as long other than spongebob?
Its government funded
Thank you.
Because Arthur and Sesame Street prioritize education and moral lessons. Parents actively make sure their kids watch these shows because they promote ideal behavior.
Shows like Spongebob prioritize humor and fun, and may decide to sprinkle some life lessons throughout. Spongebob is specifically successful because its humor is highly accessible and its life lessons rarely feel preachy or robotic.
>Because Arthur and Sesame Street prioritize education and moral lessons
But my point was that, isn't that most kids shows? In fact I'd say the ones that don't do that are outliers, like invader zim and ren ^ stimpy.
You don't see Sonic Sez surviving all these years.
>But my point was that, isn't that most kids shows?
Define “kids shows.” Educational shows like Arthur tend to last quite long because, as I said, parents actively support them and they can always mooch off of modern issues for new material. Arthur being funded by the US government also helps.
>In fact I'd say the ones that don't do that are outliers, like invader zim and ren ^ stimpy
Really? Maybe in the past this was the case, but not anymore. Just look at some of the most popular shows. Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gumball, FoP, TTG. Like I said, these shows will sprinkle life lessons throughout, but that clearly isn’t top priority.
how the hell did oggy and koth last so long?
oggy is probably due to being an easily translatable cartoon with very little voice acting, but koth is an enigma to me
Molly looking like Shermie is a factor
>Define “kids shows
stuff on CN, Nick, Disney etc. adult swim and toonami notwithstanding.
>Just look at some of the most popular shows. Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gumball, FoP, TTG.
Those have morals. Also you're not mentioning stuff like Nick Jr's shows, those are even more educational than Arthur. The only one that lasted a long time was Dora (14 years + 6 unaired episodes shown in 2019 to commemorate the live action movie).
Shows on Nick Jr and shows on CN/Nickelodeon/AS are completely different animals.
There are shows made to teach toddlers how to behave, and shows made to make kids ages 7 and up laugh and get glued to the screen. The latter has morals, but if you think most of them prioritize teaching kids to act like good citizens and say please and thank you, you’re kidding yourself.
Arthur is the former, and has outlived others in its category due to government support. Dora survived for so long because it hogged a super-relevant niche.
>Shows on Nick Jr and shows on CN/Nickelodeon/AS are completely different animals.
I didn't say they were exactly the same, but they are kids shows.
>Arthur is the former,
So are you not going to address why said educational shows haven't lasted nearly as long as Arthur?
It's really good?
Plus, I think PBS is made up of people who will die on a hill for at least some of these shows, so there is likely at least one fervent 'Arthur' supporter there. It's also one of the last bastions out there that heavily supports local/public libraries.
>that episode where he punched that annoying cunt DW for touching his shit
classic!
>So are you not going to address why said educational shows haven't lasted nearly as long as Arthur?
I’ve addressed it more than once. Arthur is a PBS show and is thus funded by the US government. They need to keep at least one show going he can be their cartoon mascot.
So what you're saying is that it's not the educational factor since tons of kids shows have that and don't last nearly as long, it's just the fact that it's US-funded, gotcha.
/thread
Educational shows that handle a variety of modern issues tend to last longer than ones that teach about a specific subject or run-of-the-mill straight-comedy/adventure shows. But yes, Arthur has outlived shows of its own genre thanks to gov funding and PBS needing a poster-boy.
Idunno...I get the feeling that tons of shows as charming as Dragon Tales and Martha Speaks got passed over to keep it running, and the meager leftovers were used for shows with crappy visuals like Dinosaur Train, Cyberchase and Wordgirl.
That's not really "mooching".
More like adapting with the times.
It's not as simple as "the government funds it", PBS has a ton of shows that have come and went. They wouldn't keep Arthur going if kids didn't watch it.
>That episode where Mr. Rat stays at his house because a bunch of dirty Italians didn't like him
Good question. I’m an intern at WGBH in Boston.
I work in documentary programming but the Arthur production team lives right below us on floor 5. Basically what has said. They continue to develop programming based off of current media trends and how they see children reading to them in focus groups and surveys. They’re also looking at new platforms to spread Arthur and other kids shows they run, and have started developing stuff for Twitch. Last week my department sent me to attend a social media webinar which was about “memes, reddit, and fanfiction.” Basically, this woman who called herself a “fanthropoligist” called in from California to give a bunch of boomers a basic rundown on how brands need to respond to the internet “co-opting” their content. The head producer from Arthur was there and started a 10-minute debate over wether or not it was ethical or appropriate to harness the “Arthur fist meme” to draw in viewers and “new demographics.” They’re flying by the seat of their pants, and if they weren’t so entrenched as a critical part of the station’s brand in general, and if Marc Brown weren’t running the show still after all these years, they wouldn’t have the resources that they do. Public media is a shitshow.
It's more about whether the parents like it, since they have the final say so.
Can’t hate it if it works
"WAAAAAHHHH GAY PEOPLE EXIST? NOOOO!!!!"
Cry more lmao
>Arthur's been around longer than Spongebob and Family Guy
what the fuck
Arthur's intended demo is too young for meme culture in my view (family friendly memes are the tiny tip of the iceberg)
Donations from viewers like you
Look, you can get mad at pandering but everyone figured out he was gay 20 years ago.
No. People just wanted to see him fucked in the ass beginning 20 years ago
Exactly, and that’s what other members of their team were arguing. It’s great from a public relations standpoint to sort of wink at it as a brand, since so many people in their 20s and 30s grew up with it, but using memes to increase core target demographic viewership among young kids really makes no sense, and that was the conclusion they came to. It was hilarious to see that conversation unfold nonetheless. When the presenter mentioned Yea Forums as a source of content to be cautious of, there was a huge wave of uneasiness in the room.
This is fucking hilarious
I thought they’d already co opted the fist meme on the Arthur twitter at some point
>When the presenter mentioned Yea Forums as a source of content to be cautious of, there was a huge wave of uneasiness in the room.
>the meager leftovers were used for shows with crappy visuals like Dinosaur Train, Cyberchase and Wordgirl.
Shut your mouth, slag. Cyberchase was one of the better e/i cartoons, and what Wordgirl lacked in animation it more than made up for in writing.
That's amazing. Thank you for your insight.
>I’m an intern at WGBH in Boston.
sure... sure you are kid
>You either die a hero, or live lone enough to become the villain.
Arthur is extremely close to becoming zombie-Simpsons at this point. This homo pandering is only the beginning if they keep going.
Gay furries.
They don't exist. Only pitiful perverts do
>Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
I don't care what people say about this show. I love the episode 'Maria Speaks' because it is possibly the best representation of what stammering is like and I appreciate that.
give them a message from me that i liked arthur a lot as a kid
Because other kids shows have an episode limit before they usually get cancelled.
>the presenter mentioned Yea Forums as a source of content to be cautious of
I can't imagine why.
Honestely, all i wonder is how the characters changed throughout all these years.
Does arthur still get into trouble with Buster due to the shenanigans they pull or has it all been changed?
Cyberchase is still going too
fake.
I don’t think that’s true.
I don't know why, but that clenched fist makes me laugh every time I see it.
If people didnt chimp out over the gay wedding I legitimately wouldn't know it was still on.
theslumsofelwood.forumotion.com
Yes. This is the problem. Also
> who ass is this Yea Forums?
Buster's 12 inch cheeks if that filename is to be believed.
bzeh funds it out of guilt
I don’t know, but that ass was fat
Gahdammmm
>Yea Forums? You mean 4channel.org? The hacker?
I much preferred things in the old days where if you stuttered people just thought you were retarded. It's a nightmare trying to talk to people like you.
Pbs
>The head producer from Arthur was there and started a 10-minute debate over wether or not it was ethical or appropriate to harness the “Arthur fist meme” to draw in viewers and “new demographics.”
To be honest, I think "casting John Legend as a guest character" would be a better, subtle jab - not just for "winking at elders" sake though:
>personality on TV might actually work for voice acting guest character
>his music-making chops could make the special episode more memorable + great award bait
(Best to keep it under wraps from press until the first airing finishes.)
‘Chowder’ prioritizes culinary education. Every character is named after some different food item and they actually show the process.
So why did that get cancelled?
>”presenter” from California spends 20 minutes teaching how to navigate subreddits and find “niche cultures”
>talks about the social media strategy Wendy’s used to turn Wendy into a livable viral shitposter
>debate starts about hypothetically creating a finsta for Masterpiece Theater
>70 year old outreach director from my team leans over to me and whispers in my ear “what’s Pepe?”
It was like a fever dream
Wasn't that a racist symbol? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I still find it funny how they were pushing that shit even as it was happening.
same
A lot of shows in general try to slip in some tidbits to the audience.
Arthur was extremely popular when it premiered, due to being based on an already popular book series. It ended up as one of their flagship shows. At this point, it largely sticks around because nobody wants to cancel a 20 year old series.
>Nothing on pbs kids match's it.
See Arthur knows how to beat ass!
You can't post working id, you can't post that shit
Rat burns
>Believing your imaginary friend is real because Jews told you so
Kek, good goy, keep circumcising your kids
Becuase it's a kids show that has a audience that grows up and doesn't normally throw a temper tantrum when they change a show for the next generation.
I once read something that I think described King of the Hill best. While there were "adult cartoons" (South Park, Family Guy, etc.) back then, KOTH was a "cartoon for adults".
Rather than just being filled with swear words and sex jokes, KOTH had characters and plots that were instantly relatable for the average American adult. While The Simpsons was a somewhat cynical critique of American culture in general, King of the Hill was specifically an analysis of the life of an American adult and the pressures that are in it (marriage, annoying neighbors, problems with your children, work troubles, etc.).
That is utterly false.
It's a PBS kids show about teaching lessons and morals. Of course it's gone for that long.
All they've done recently is change the animation style to Flash because it's cheaper, which naturally removed the last little bit of soul this series had.
The only character worth caring about
This would be perfect and i’d be surprised if it didn’t happen at some point.
Nor should it be.
Imagine being this uninformed about something and yet being so confident in you willing stupidity
Says the dipshit who has absolutely no support whatsoever but continues to act as though they presented something groundbreaking
Under rated
>Ratburn comes out
>No one's impressed by it
It's kinda funny and makes sense at the same time really
Busters
So, when is the episode where Ratburn plays "Cave Explorer" with Buster?
Because of Flash Animation
Arthur is surprisingly pretty realistic in its plot
Time travel episode with John Legend voicing future Arthur
good thing there is plenty of porn of the characters from this show. or else it would be even more boring as fuck
>1996
Try '1969'
Looks like a fusion between Aztrosist and Plague of Gripes
why the HELL is DW voiced by a boy?
>>When the presenter mentioned Yea Forums as a source of content to be cautious of, there was a huge wave of uneasiness in the room.
i mean it's no secret people in the industry come here from an inside Yea Forums out perspective, but, what the fuck.
>Arthur has an episode about raging when playing online,
What episode? I need to see Buster's heated gamer moment
I think it’s the second part of the Ratburn wedding ep
Holy shit, based 90's and early 2000's Arthur
>Read pastebin where she takes Francine's friends and NTR's her out of love
I've voiced her and it was great. Suck it user
Wat
Not an argument
To be a fair /pol/ loves them some pepe.
I would have heard if it went off air because I loved it as a kid, but it is LONG past being a good show, even with the demographic in mind.
You're surprised? It's a very likely fuck up if something kid-oriented is looking for memes to capitalize on.They pick the wrong reaction image to reference and suddenly the media is doing stories on Arthur referencing porn, genocide, racism or transgender suicide rates.
I think that passage is saying that sex is dirty. Not that gay people are fake. Also most sane religious organizations don't even take the bible as literal truth anymore. Also I think you're trolling.
