Still cartoon of the decade.
We need a sequel that deals with the abandoned timeline like how Chrono Trigger had Chrono Cross. It'd still be extremely depressing, but it's better than what happened. Jack should have stayed in the future. Its like he abandoned everyone and Genndy wasnt self aware enough to realize how bad it felt.
the moral of "rewind time so the whole plot didn't happen" is SUPPOSED to be
>The best outcome sometimes requires sacrifice
but it feels like the character is just cheating their whole life and throwing away all their hardships and things they've done, just because of bullshit wizard magic. the ending should've been
>lol there is no backward time travel and everyone who ever offered it was lying
Jack should have killed Aku and then gone back, saving both timelines simultaneously
GOTTA GET BACK
It's the central directive of the entire series.
I'm not saying it couldn't have been written better, but if he stayed in the future the ending would have felt incomplete.
It was obvious since the river scene that Jack's ultimate choice was going to come to undoing the crimes of Aku and give back the live of the people in the past, as opposed to destroy Aku in the future and free everyone there from his rule.
The only problem I had was the Ashi fade away. They seriously couldn't wave that paradox away and just let it happen?
>It was obvious since the river scene that Jack's ultimate choice was going to come to undoing the crimes of Aku and give back the live of the people in the past, as opposed to destroy Aku in the future and free everyone there from his rule.
The entire season arc was focused on Jack overcoming his survivor's guilt and his hopelessness about not being able to return to the past by realizing how many lives he's saved and changed for the better and that there's still people and things worth fighting for even if he can't save the past.
I didn't watch season 5.
Did the timeline reset as soon as Jack went back to the past, basically erasing the future? Or was it really a separate timeline?
The former happened, just watch first 3-5(depending how interested you'll be) episodes and then drop it'll save you a lot time and frustration
Jack went back in time to the exact moment right after he was sent to the future. He caught a weakened Aku off guard and finally killed him for good. He managed to get back in time because Ashi, who was a woman trained since a child to be an assassin for Aku, and implied to have some blood of Aku in her since birth, finally realized she had Aku's powers, and used the same Time Travel thing to send Jack back in time. She also tagged along with him.
After Jack finished off Aku, they time skipped to the world being rebuilt, and Jack about to marry off with Ashi, but when she makes it to the altar, she says he cant remain there anymore, and fades away leaving Jack alone at the altar.
that's fine, I just felt Ashi as a character was kind of unnessecary
she was pointless
>give her all the screentime instead of giving closure to all the characters that appeared in the series like the dutchman and his family
focusing on a OC donut steel is never good especially not in a series finale
>Jack never came back to fight the guardian
gay
Should've just done that instead of all this Ashi shit
Didn't he just rip off the ending to that one anime except without any of the emotion? Don't understand why he couldn't just give Jack a happy ending after all he had been through but whatever.
It wouldn't. The idea of him not being able to save the past but he can still save the future was an idea that was slowly, but surely building up throughout seasons 1-4 with things like him choosing to help people over entering a time portal and ending Aku or him being reassured by his parents in a vision that Aku's victory in the past wasn't his failure and that he has many other victories in the form of him helping, saving, and bringing hope to people in the future
I liked it better when it was called Gurren Lagann
Ashi deserved better than to be killed off for cheap drama.
Yeah ending was soiled hard. I would have rather seen him get sent back to a good future with Ashi or something, seems like Jack's seen too much shit to go back imho
We don't know, because after he goes back the future is never seen again. A single 5 second shot of people enjoying their lives now that Aku is gone would've sufficed, but there was nothing, so we can only speculate.
ashi deserved to get killed with her sisters
The fact that Ashi disappeared proves that the future was erased by Aku's death.
>Never explains why the time portals keep popping up.
>The deities and other supernatural creatures deal.
>What did Jack's father mean before he goes to face Aku.
>How Jack was supposed to enter the guardian's portal when he was ready.

The concept that Samurai Jack was Aku and every time he goes through the portal he becomes Aku and he has to break the cycle makes more sense. Genndy just wanted the show to be over and didn't even follow his own timeline, made no sense why Jack's father wasn't an old man when he returns to the past or whatever managed to kill the guardian.
When Aku is killed in the past, his spawn from the future is erased so yes the future timeline is wiped.
That's because she is directly related to him, it's like going back in time to kill your own dad and then poofing out of existence. It doesn't prove anything about the other characters.
The circumstances of the future are no longer present so nothing is the same. No evil cults and assassins hired by Aku, no planet devastation from evil robots built for Aku, and humanity doesn't surrender their civilization to alien black market or whatever because Aku did that.
That doesn't prevent the characters from the future from still existing in that timeline. Jack will never meet them, he'd be dead by then, and they won't be born in that world anyways because like you said the circumstances aren't there, but there's no reason they're not still alive in their own branch. Ashi disappeared because she got brought to a different branch where the circumstances leading to her birth can't take place.
Nah
this. i never understood why Jack always had moral problems going back, since he himself would just retcon all his adventures and the people he'd meet anyway.
