I thought the point was she was trying to find purpose after losing her powers and Yukio helped loosed her up.

It was a step in a process of finding herself. She was trying to reconcile her regal goddess persona with who she needed to be as part of the X-Men, but also who she was outside of the team.
First she gets a spur-of-the-moment mohawk and tries to reinvent herself as a biker chick, then winds up losing her powers and has to do even deeper soul searching. Eventually she reconciles the goddess act with the gritty person she became and realized she could get down and dirty when necessary and still carry herself with dignity.
That's why it pisses me off when modern writers who obviously didn't read Claremont portray her as being so fragile that she has to get a haircut every time things get tough.

I have a weird question for you guys. I'm designing a character for a Mutants and Masterminds game, and he's supposed to be a sort of modern-day "masked avenger" type character, like the Questions, Rorschach, and the Crimson Avenger. How would you update that sort of costume (suit and coat) for the modern day? I was thinking a black motorcycle over black denim jeans, combat boots, leather gloves, and some sort of scary mask -- but I'm open to your suggestions. The character himself is street-level, but largely bulletproof with the strength to match.
