Because Genie's telling you a story about shit that already happened and you can't change the past.

Haven't seen the live action version, but
>He could get Aladdin out of the cave without him having to wish for it He was tricked. Based on his song and dance routine in his introduction, there's really no limit to how often he can use his powers. But when it comes to responding to the wants and needs of his master, there's some kinda rules. The rules obviously don't restrain him physically, so I guess it's something else. He also can't choose not to respond to the wishes of his master, as seen by Jafar.
>He could magically make Ababua appear on the map without him having to wish for it I'm guessing this is from the live action version. Aladdin's wish was "to be a prince". You can't be a prince without a kingdom, so it's a package deal.
>But he couldn't simply get Aladdin out of the water if he could not wish for it Rules.
Nicholas Gray
>Haven't seen the live action version
Then please don't reply thank you
Xoxo
Leo Moore
just dropping in to say that the original story had two genies disney turned one of them into the flying carpet
Original movie Aladdin tricked the genie into practically granting him one freebie.
Asher Campbell
>He could magically make Ababua appear on the map without him having to wish for it He did wish for it. You need a kingdom to be a prince. Aladdin wished to be a prince, Genie just never granted that one, he just made it look like he did.
Luke Murphy
Yeah, but the original story is stupid. Original Aladdin has a genie with infinite wishes, yet in order to get into a city, he beats up a hobo to steal his clothes to make a disguise.
Carter James
the dance and the map is part of the prince thing
Hudson Watson
Genies are tricksters.

Sinbad is actually a much worse human being than Aladdin. A total fucker.
Yeah the live action version really fucked up displaying what was and wasn't in Genie's ability to do. Like when he was asked to distract the handmaiden so Aladdin could woo Jasmine, how the fuck does that work? The whole point of Genie's phenomenal power was at the cost of free will, the ultimate monkeys paw. In the original cartoon Genie only slipped up once, to get Aladdin out of the cave. Everything else was entirely up to Aladdin to accomplish outside of a wish. At least there you could argue Genie was allowed to give out ONE freebie as a demonstration of power, but again it's all vague.
Austin Butler
To be fair the entire point of the collection of stories is to be as violent/mystical/sexual as possible because they're being told by a scared girl whose husband is gonna chop her head off if he gets bored.
Aiden Scott
you can talk about the movie but you have to post sinbad
this might not actually be sinbad's character from the HBO animated series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child but I'm 89% sure it is that show was actually really good. it was diverse before it was cool to be diverse but the diversity did a lot to enrich the familiar fairy tale narratives
