Dear lord, it is like some 15 year old girls fanfic character meant to be as quirky as possible in hopes for people to like her, so that we overlook the fact that personalitywise she will be blander than crackers.

Yeah, there’s definitely a hope that with the start of a new decade that new trends will take hold and replace the current ones which are largely rooted in Adventure Time. The minimal style was both seen as very hip at the time and became favored by executives as it’s less time intensive and therefore cheaper, and a lot of its elements got mutated into what have become recurring features of American character designs.
When Owl House’s designs were first revealed their relative complexity and dimension got people excited, though from what we’ve seen from the production it doesn’t seem like the animation is doing them justice and it loos far more conventional and drab than expected (it has Star Vs. cheap/flat feeling, which is absent from Gravity Falls and Amphibia and even Big City Greens). I hope that post work like additional shading can salvage the atmosphere of the show but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be the gamechanger it could have been.
What’s really of interest now is all the 30s/40s theatrical cartoon styled shows on the way - Looney Tunes Cartoons, Animaniacs, and Cuphead. Will be interesting to see if their more fluid and stretch/squash heavy motion will start a trend

I would literally always take 2D lewd over CGI, it’s straight-up a soul vs soulless thing where it feels fake and unnerving in a way drawings don’t. Imagine the confusion she'd feel, what she thought was this magical life changing way out of her old life ends up entraping her in a horrible situation. Eda could end up showing her flaws, letting something that could've been a good wholesome mentor/apprentice relationship become soured because of her vices, and the downward spiral of regret could turn it into a very abusive relationship of constantly trying to apologize, getting frustrated when it doesn't work, and taking it out on Luz. King could end up being concerned about it, wanting to help, but never being able to due to his own weakness, making him an enabler.
